7 More Insights To Help You Live A Beautiful Life
I thought about last week's podcast, 7 insights to live a better life and help meditation and I said can i give another 7 insights to go even deeper? Well, I did and you will thank me if you apply these insights to your life. So grab a drink and sit back and enjoy being insightful.
Transcript
Last week I made a recording and I entitled it Seven Insights on how to live a better life and to meditate deeper.
Those seven insights are very beautiful things to take to heart to apply to your life and if you do apply those things you'll live a much more abundant and beautiful life.
When I was a young man just getting into meditation I was always on the lookout for more insight.
I wanted more insight.
I wanted to be able to meditate better,
To become a more aware person and I wanted to do it as fast as possible.
But I learned to slow down and take my time.
And over the last week I thought about what I said and what I shared and I said I wonder if I can come up with seven more insights to help you live a more abundant,
Beautiful life.
And if you learn these things and you listen to these recordings at a very young age and you apply them to your life they will change everything about you.
So I thought of seven more things that I do in my daily life or I have applied in my life and these things will help you to grow and to develop as a spiritual understanding,
Loving,
Caring,
Compassionate person.
Sure you may have your other bad sides too but if you live at your core,
If you live at your center then like I said in the other video if you live at your center then the things on the periphery don't seem to affect you as much.
They're there but they don't get to your core,
They don't reach your inner sanctum and corrupt your life.
So here we go,
Seven insights.
My name is Douglas Grummins and welcome to this track.
Before I mention the first insight I want you guys to take what I tell you to heart only for a moment or two.
So basically what I'm asking you to do is to listen to what I say,
Try it for yourselves,
If it doesn't work for you then get rid of it.
I had a martial arts instructor tell me that when I was young,
You use what works for you.
So if I tell you something I give you an insight and it doesn't jive with you right away,
Maybe it's not your time yet,
Maybe you have to get through another obstacle or stepping stone before you can get to that obstacle.
So anyway this one here is pretty deep.
The first insight I want to share with you is that you have to drop fear.
Fear is your greatest enemy.
Fear can keep you alive.
As a surfer we face fear all the time.
As a skydiver it's just something that you have to learn to overcome.
You face your fear.
You don't run from it anymore.
You don't hide from it.
You don't let it control your life anymore.
You become the master when you get control of that fear.
The fear might still be there but if you're centered,
If you're operating from your center like I talked about in the last video of the first seven insights,
If you're living off that center then fear will be on the periphery.
It won't control you.
So that's the first insight for today is to basically to try to drop fear in every way.
Okay,
And in a second I'll,
After I explain the second insight to you,
I'll explain why it is so important.
The second insight,
Here we go,
The second insight is to drop greed.
Okay,
Let go of greed.
Greed is your worst enemy.
It will create more problems in your life and more headaches and more frustrations than anything else.
We're always desiring and desire is a form of greed but we're always desiring for more than what we have.
We have a nice car.
We have a really nice car or something,
Per se,
And a really nice house but you always want more.
You always want a better house so you want a bigger car,
A faster car,
Or more cars.
Those kinds of desires in the spiritual world,
In the materialistic world,
It's no big deal,
Right?
But in the spiritual world you have to drop greed and desire for heaven is a subtle form of greed.
And what I mean by that is that,
I know that sounds scary because you've been raised your whole life thinking,
Hey,
When I die I want to go to heaven.
And I'm not saying that when you die what's going to happen or what's not going to happen.
What I'm saying is you're missing heaven right now in this very moment,
In this very existence.
When you drop fear and then you drop greed then you're allowed to live in the present moment.
You get pulled by the side when you're standing erect and meditating and practicing awareness and everything,
Fear and greed will pull you down from side to side and they'll weigh you down and create havoc in your life.
So when you combine the first and second insights for today,
That leads us to the next one and that is to try to live completely in the moment.
Every moment you can do this,
You try to live in the present moment.
And if you practice it enough,
If you meditate enough and pay your dues and grow and give yourself the opportunity to grow spiritually and emotionally and physically and intellectually and all that stuff,
Allow it all to grow,
Then a moment will come when you shift from the horizontal plane to the vertical plane.
And when you do that shift,
You start what we call the law of levitation.
It starts to apply at that point.
And energy starts rising up and rising up.
So that brings me to the fourth insight for today and that is not to worry about the chakras.
I know that sounds scary.
I have never,
Well I take it back.
I never worked on any chakra stuff until I started realizing that my energy was blocked in my throat chakra.
And it wasn't until then that I started practicing sound chakras to release the throat and allow the blockages to allow the energy to rise up.
But I never worked on chakras at the beginning.
You don't need to even think about them.
There are chakra meditations that might help on the very outskirts of your being.
Very hard for them to reach the center because the reason why I say this is that you have to mature.
We have to mature those four bodies that we talked about.
We have to grow inside in order for energy to rise up.
And it has to be done sequentially.
You grow in an order,
Physical first,
Emotional,
Intellectual,
And then spiritual.
We don't rise up to the spiritual is-ness of life until we've matured in the other three bodies.
So it's a growth process.
But it's beautiful.
Let it happen.
It's going to happen no matter which way you look at it anyway.
So if you enjoy the trip,
If you enjoy the ride and do it positively then it changes your life.
And that leads us to the next insight.
I brushed on it earlier but I didn't get into it,
Like my martial arts instructor said to me,
You use what works for you.
Whatever makes you excel,
What benefits you,
You use.
And what doesn't benefit you,
You drop.
So here's one I like to share.
This insight is what I call combine both East and Western thought.
It's not going to hurt anything to pray to God,
Pray for thankfulness,
Pray for being alive,
Pray for just that breath that you get to take at the next moment.
And I dove into I guess Buddhism or Buddhistic thought with this and learned that prayer,
When you're meditating you're praying anyway.
It's a different form of prayer.
But when you're practicing awareness and you're being grateful for every bite of food that you get and you savor each bite as you go and you make eating a prayer,
Right?
And then when you make eating a prayer then you make other things prayers,
Right?
It just starts to make your life very abundant and full of love and energy when you do this,
When you combine meditation and prayer together.
And prayer can be not just a communication with God,
In the long run when everything comes together the separation of prayer,
Because it takes two to pray,
You have to have something to pray to.
But after a while you become one with the existence,
One with godliness and then the separation doesn't exist.
And then your life,
Your very life becomes a prayer.
So I say combine the two.
You pray for being grateful,
Pray for everything that happened in your life.
And everything that happened in your life somehow enriched it or made you learn a lesson to help get you to this point where you listen to this crazy podcast I'm putting out.
Which leads us to the next insight I'd like to share with you.
And I know this one sounds crazy but if you can meditate in water,
Even in the bathtub,
Even in a nice hot bathtub,
Especially if you add salt,
Like probably about four or five tablespoons of salt in the bathtub with you.
And if you can meditate in water then it cleanses your spirit and it helps you meditate deeper,
Faster and it just makes everything more abundantly beautiful.
It's something I quite enjoy.
I'll sometimes go and sit by the ocean shore in the water when it's warm enough.
And I'll sit at the water's edge and meditate and just close my eyes and get into a nice beautiful meditation and listen to the waves of the ocean beat.
And it's just so beautiful.
I had a thing happen in my life years ago.
I drove to Matagorda which is probably about a two and a half,
Three hour drive from where I lived.
Matagorda Beach is a beach in Texas.
And anyway,
I got down there and there wasn't much for waves where you pull up and look at things.
But sometimes if you make this trek,
And this trek is kind of hairy dangerous,
You have to swim across a boat channel.
And to swim across this boat channel you can't just aim for the other side.
You have to remember to take the currents into place that you have to paddle at an angle.
And if you paddle at an angle,
By the time you reach the other side you'll end up where you think you're going to go.
But I didn't know it,
But this boat channel is full of crocodiles.
So they say,
I never saw one,
But they say it's full of crocodiles.
And anyway,
So once you swim across the boat channel,
You had to put on your flippers or water shoes,
Whatever you brought with you,
And you had to climb on top of this four foot round drainage pipe.
It drained water out of the ship channel,
The boat channel.
It wasn't quite a ship channel,
It's a pretty good sized boat channel.
But they drained the water out of it and they pumped it in this big pipe all the way down the beach,
About a half mile down the beach.
If you got off the pipe,
Then you landed in the marsh,
Then the mosquitoes knew you were there.
And you'd get eaten alive with mosquitoes.
So you walk on top of the pipe all the way to the ends,
And where it ends it pours that sand out on the beach,
And out into the sand and into the water too.
And it made the only point break in Texas.
And it was beautiful.
And I've had many times where I've gone down with friends and stuff,
And surfed my butt off and had a good time at that point break.
It was well worth the trek.
A lot of times,
You know,
Matagorda will be firing and the rest of the beaches around Galveston and Surfside are only like a foot.
And Matagorda would be two to three foot.
So it's always fun to go down there.
But anyway,
This one trip I went down there,
I went by myself.
And I made the trek across the boat channel and along the pipe.
And it was a beautiful,
Warm,
Sunny spring day,
But I was by myself and there wasn't really much waves to ride.
So basically I sat down in the water like I always do and started meditating in the water.
And as I was sitting there meditating,
I came out of it probably about 30 minutes worth of meditating,
And this pot of dolphins swam right up to the shore,
Right where that point break is.
And I think they were curious.
Maybe they could pick up on the energy that I was transmitting.
I don't know.
But anyway,
I was like,
Wow,
That's beautiful.
A whole pot of dolphins.
So I started going into the water very slowly.
And I walked into the water until my waist was up to the water's edge on my waist.
And it was so cool because the baby dolphins started brushing against my legs and playing to see who could touch the meditator there.
And mom and dad would pop their heads up and look at me and everything.
And then the teenagers in the pod,
They were showing off doing flips like five feet from me.
It's like,
Wow.
And anyway,
I played with these dolphins and I just stayed in the water very cautious that I didn't want to overstep my bounds or scare them away in any way.
But I sat and I played with these dolphins for so long.
I didn't surf that trip,
But it was one of my favorite surf trips.
The memory of that day will live on forever.
How it happened that maybe dolphins can pick up on meditative energy,
I don't know.
But it was extremely beautiful.
So yeah,
Meditating in water,
Especially salt water,
Is very good for your soul.
So that's insight number six.
And the last insight I want to give,
And of course I saved the best for last,
But one of the most important things in my life,
And one of the things I'm glad I got to do when I was very young,
Joining the military and being able to travel.
Being young and traveling is the best.
And I know it's kind of scary and it costs money and everything,
But I think it's better to have traveled and lived a well life.
I mean,
You can still put away for your retirement.
I'm not saying be stupid or spend all your money while you're young.
But traveling is not that expensive.
I know a young people,
A young lady in Mexico I met who was from Switzerland,
And she'd never been surfing before,
But she wanted to take a trip.
Her brother told her about this beach that we go to.
I won't mention the beach because it's secret.
Her brother told her about this secret beach and she had to go for herself and that's when she met us.
And we gave her some surfing pointers.
And anyway,
It's just the beauty-tude of traveling,
The beauty that comes around and the appreciation.
When you travel and you're practicing awareness and being respectful to the locals or wherever you go,
Then life becomes so beautiful.
And it's like if you wait till your late 70s or 80s to travel,
You don't have the same energy as when you're young.
So I say as much as you can,
And it doesn't have to be long trips.
It can be travel to a town 100 miles from you.
Like here in Galveston,
Just go to San Antonio every once in a while.
Go to Austin every once in a while.
And you start to appreciate what you have more.
You start to appreciate the ability and the cultures that exist in other places that may be a little different from your culture.
But it's not bad.
It's all a beautiful thing.
Different people,
Different places.
And as a surfer,
It's a rite of passage that you gotta go to Hawaii.
You have to go to Costa.
Mexico is a good place.
Mexico is kind of like the poor man's Hawaii,
But we won't get into that.
What I mean by that is it doesn't cost half as much to go there as it does to go to Hawaii.
These are rites of passage.
If I would have waited to go to Hawaii in my 60s or 70s,
Who knows?
Asthma can kick in.
Your body gets weaker.
Maybe not be able to handle a big hold down like you did when you were younger.
Who knows what could happen.
So the last insight and the most important is to get out there and travel and enjoy life and see as much as you can.
Take in as much as you can.
Because it's this abundance of life that takes you over the edge.
That takes you from that leaping point from the horizontal plane to the vertical plane.
So if you combine all these seven insights that I've given you on this lesson,
Combine them with the other seven I gave the other day,
That's fourteen insights.
I don't know if I can come up with another fourteen or another seven.
But I bet you if I sat down and thought about it I could come up with seven more insights that I would think could help change your lives and help you to live better lives.
So anyway,
Thanks again for joining me.
I really appreciate your time.
If you like these recordings I make,
Then you can leave me a review.
I'm not sure how to communicate with my followers on Insight Timer.
I've logged into the app and I can see the work that I've put in there.
It seems like a little difficult to get to the tracks that I've been making recently.
I know there's a section that comes up and says,
Hey,
This is new stuff.
Listen to this.
This is cool.
This is new.
But I've made like forty something tracks.
You know,
It's getting up there.
And I just want you guys to listen to as much as you can to help you grow and become basically,
I don't want to say a better person,
Because it's just a bigger,
More expansive,
Caring,
Compassionate type of person.
So anyway,
Thanks again for joining me.
Leave a comment or if you want a review.
That would be awesome.
I like to hear from everybody.
If you give me a rating,
Good ratings are welcome.
If you don't like what I say,
If it doesn't resonate with you,
Just let it go.
Don't worry about it.
It may not be meant for you at this point.
Maybe you're living a different path or a different life.
But if you put them in the back of your mind and remember these insights and remember the things I shared and the things I said,
They have definitely benefited my life.
I just want to help and benefit your lives too.
So anyway,
Y'all take care of yourselves.
And namaste and aloha to all my surfing friends.
Take care.
I'll see you next time.
