Basically,

In life there are two taboos,

Two things that are normally never shared or talked about,

Like it has a bad omen about it for sharing it or trying to talk about it.

And even though,

Yes,

The two taboos are death and sex,

Sex is more talked about more freely than death is,

But it's because death is such a hard thing to share with another person,

More or less with a whole crowd of people who are sitting curious by the TV or the computer thinking,

You know,

What's this guy got to say?

What could he actually share to us and make us feel better about death?

And I'll be one of the first to say that past death,

Once a full death occurs to you,

Then I know nothing about what happens after that point.

It's said that every enlightened person,

Once you become enlightened,

Gets a gift.

He or she is given a special gift that just shows the world that they have this flowering that's going on inside and outside of themselves.

And the gift,

I guess,

Is supposed to be a reward.

But in my case,

It was kind of a reward and a curse.

Because what happened was people,

When they started dying,

Came to visit me.

They would come and visit me.

And I wasn't haunted by anybody or anything like that.

It was more like them coming and saying goodbye.

Like for some reason,

They had to come say goodbye to me.

And this usually happened in the evening time or at night sometimes.

I've been woken up many times from people just wanting to say goodbye.

And it's not like I know people are dying and then I hear something.

No,

It's like I find out I hear something in the evening or the nighttime.

And the next day I find out,

Oh,

My friend died.

So yeah,

It was kind of a curse and a gift all at the same time.

Some of my friends,

Some of my mystical friends,

Have basically said,

Well,

You're kind of like a doorway.

An enlightened person becomes a doorway.

He becomes a passage into the next life,

Into the next world.

Now what that next world is,

I could not and never tell you.

Because I've only experienced life in so many dimensions.

Maybe for me it's been more dimensions than most men would ever achieve or dive or get into.

This raising of energy that I've been doing for the last 25 years has had an impact on my life and it has made an impact on a lot of people's lives that surround me.

And I'm trying to come out into the public and say,

Look,

Death is nothing to be scared of.

Like I said,

I can't tell you what happens after the people say goodbye to me,

But I'm not haunted.

There's nobody comes back again and again and again every night bothering me,

Trying to get me to open some door or do some crazy thing for them.

There's a lot of things I don't understand about it,

But I know it happens and it's still happening.

It still happens to this day.

Like when Robin Williams died,

It almost felt like being enlightened all over again,

Except there was without the light part,

Without certain parts.

It was very like this huge energy,

This massive energy of a person entered my body and used me as a doorway.

And that was kind of an interesting thing.

So again,

I'm not making this recording to try to boast anything about enlightenment or anything about myself.

I'm trying to make this recording to help those who may be terminally ill or know somebody that's terminally ill and needs some words of encouragement.

It's like,

Hey,

The end is near.

The end could be near for all of us.

We never know.

We're not given any tomorrows either.

It's going to happen tomorrow that some 15,

20 kids are going to die under the age of five for no reason,

For nothing to do with God or nothing to do with the devil or anything evil or anything like that.

It's just the way it is,

The way that life is,

Is that people come and go every single day and we're not guaranteed a tomorrow.

And that's why the mystics say that you should live for today because tomorrow is never promised.

Tomorrow may never come.

So live your life for this moment and narrow it down to moment by moment too.

Because the more you can narrow it down to moment by moment,

The brighter the candle burns,

The more centered you are,

The more alive you will become if you can focus all your energy into the present moment.

And I know that sounds hard because we've got things in the past pulling us into the past like fear or greed pulling us into the past or greed is pulling us into the future.

So these things we've got to have to try to overcome and give up greed and give up fear and just live as much as you can into the present moment.

Like I said,

Because tomorrow is never promised.

And when you do this,

When you live in the present moment,

Like I said,

You become a flame.

The flame is lit and the candle starts burning for the first time.

It's such a beautiful thing to have happen to you.

In fact,

That basically is enlightenment is that giving up the future and the past and living in the present moment 100%.

Nothing pulling you from either direction.

Just the energy shifts from a horizontal plane to a vertical plane.

And then you start raising energy into higher levels and you start realizing what super consciousness is and what cosmic consciousness is and what the collective consciousness is.

It's all these levels that are waiting for you to experience but you got a lot of work to do first.

You got to get yourself into this point where you can experience super consciousness first.

And enlightenment is basically super consciousness.

It's your first glimpse of what the beyond is.

And many people say,

Many of the mystics say that enlightenment is the ultimate death.

It is the last death.

Depending on what culture you're talking to or talking about,

You may have lived millions and millions of lives or maybe you only live one life.

It seems like both have their truths about them.

God never creates duplicates.

So it's interesting how we get recreated into a new human being that's nothing like that we were in the past.

Or if it was something similar into the past,

Maybe we can feel that.

We can sense that.

There's this continuity that's gone through.

Think about it.

If it rains and the water flows back into the ocean,

Like you were a rain drop at one time.

A single drop of rain falling through the sky and that was your life.

And then you landed and went back to the ocean.

And God of course is the ocean.

And some of that water somehow mystically regathers.

Even though it diluted itself into the hole of the ocean,

Somehow some of that same water seems to gather and recreate a person that is you.

There's a story that has been told about Buddha's time.

And Buddha was a great mystic.

And many of his followers thought that he could heal people and he had magical powers and all these things like that.

But that was not Buddha's way.

Even if somebody touched him and they became healed,

That had more to do with that person's faith than it did with any special power that Buddha had.

But the story goes like this.

There was a woman who was very distraught because her only child died at a young age.

And she was carrying the body all around town going from person to person saying,

Help me,

Help me,

Help me.

And nobody could help her.

They said,

No,

Your child's dead.

There's nothing that can be done.

And then one person said,

Look,

There's this man that's in town right now.

He's visiting town.

And he is a great mystic.

And maybe he can help bring your child back to life.

So the woman brought her child to Buddha's feet and laid the child down at Buddha's feet.

And Buddha had much compassion for the woman.

And it's said that he told the woman,

Basically,

I can bring your son back to life.

And he gave her an empty jar and said,

Look,

What you need to do is you need to go to every household and ask for a seed,

A mustard seed from each household and fill this jar full of seeds.

And then you bring this jar back to me full of seeds and I will bring your son back to life.

But there's only one catch,

He said.

Each household that you ask from must not have known of or had anyone die in their family.

So the woman with a whole bunch of encouragement started going around house to house.

And every house she went to,

They said,

No,

We have someone that died in our house too.

So we can't give you any mustard seeds.

So this happened over and over all the way through town.

And after several hours of traveling and trying to fill the jar,

She still had an empty jar.

So she,

After several hours of trying to collect seeds,

Came to a conclusion.

She realized that death is everywhere.

You can't escape it.

You can't avoid it.

And the child is gone now.

But you know,

What if he would have died in five years or 10 years from now?

He still would have died.

And he would have not known the essence of what a Buddha is or what it means to be a Buddha.

So she came back to Buddha and bowed down to Buddha's feet and said,

Initiate me.

I want to be one of your disciples.

I want to know what is beyond death.

I want to know this ultimate death that you talk about.

I want to know what is past that.

And you know,

I'm ready to be your loyal follower.

It can be said that,

You know,

Nobody knows,

Not even Buddha,

What happens after death.

In fact,

There's Zen monks who are asked by some of their followers,

What happens to you when you die?

And the head monk answered back,

I don't know.

I have never died yet.

So I can't answer that question for you.

But no matter what we think happens,

It is more compassionate to think that we keep living more lives.

And the evidence I have for that is that,

You know,

There is no evidence for the other side for anything else other than what we already know what we have.

What we see is enough evidence to keep us going,

To believe that God is a compassionate God.

If a God exists,

Then he's compassionate.

And with this compassion,

You're given many,

Many lives and many,

Many chances to experience love and beauty and all the great things that come along with life.

Unfortunately,

Just like a rose has many thorns below it,

You can't have one without the other.

It's like the ugliness in life,

It's below the roses,

It's,

You know,

Below the lotus flower that the mud that's surrounding the base of a flower that never ever gets dirty.

It's all there.

It's all part of life.

And you can't separate good from bad.

That's the way of the Tao.

And Taoism basically says that there's these dielectrics that complement each other.

They're not opposites.

In fact,

Good and evil balance each other out in a way.

Ugly and beauty,

There's a balance between the two.

And it's all subjective,

Too.

What's ugly to one person may be beautiful to another.

It's all subjective.

But it all balances out into this great thing they call the Tao.

In another great mythic,

Jesus has said that basically,

Let heaven be here on earth as it is above,

As it is below.

So what is above?

What is below?

Is the earth below and the heavens above?

Or basically,

Is it just something that you have to excel into,

Something to grow into and transform into?

So I'll have to share another little story.

Buddha has his stories.

Jesus has his.

Bringing people back to life.

Of course,

I'm a surfer.

If you don't know that I surfed,

It's probably in half of my videos,

In half of my audio tracks.

But anyway,

I had a near-death experience in California.

I was riding really big waves,

Bigger than I was ever used to,

Or anything big,

Way bigger than anything I'd ever ridden before in my life.

But I was young and full of courage and maybe a little more,

A little stupider than I am now.

Anyway,

So I was in California and I was riding these waves.

And I botched a takeoff on a pretty large wave.

It wasn't a huge,

Huge wave by any standard of today's standard.

But back then it was a pretty big wave.

Anyway,

I got held down underwater for so long,

For such a long period of time,

I ran out of air.

And I ran out of,

Not energy,

But basically it's like,

I got nothing left.

I can't fight anymore.

I can't hold my breath any longer.

You know,

I need to breathe.

And it wasn't letting me up.

And then a point came where I gave in and just said,

Okay,

Well,

I guess this is the day I'm going to die.

You know,

This is it,

You know,

Game over and this is it.

Goodbye world.

So I closed my eyes and I went limp and I let go.

And I saw this like golden light in front of my eyes.

And I was still underwater getting tumbled.

But I felt an arm come into the water and grab my collar.

I had a wetsuit on and I grabbed my collar and pulled me to the surface.

So anyway,

I surfaced and I took a big breath of air.

I'm like,

Oh my God,

I'm still alive.

What the hell?

I looked around to thank the person,

Whoever pulled me out of the water and saved my life.

I went to thank them,

But nobody was there.

I was all alone.

I was by myself.

The repercussions of that accident made me a little crazier because I no longer feared death.

I no longer had any greed or any future for the future.

I just basically sat down the next day after that incident and started just sitting relaxed in a chair,

No posture or anything.

It was a recliner chair,

So I was laying back a little bit,

But not so far back that I would fall asleep.

But anyway,

So I'm in this recliner chair and I'm just these thoughts came over my mind.

It's like,

You know what,

I'm never going to get any better at surfing than this.

I'm never going to be any younger.

This is it.

This is the pinnacle of life.

This is the aha moment,

The point where you just realize that what you've been doing wrong your whole life and why life doesn't seem beautiful to you is because you're being pulled in these different directions by ambition and greed and fear and all these emotions and all these things going on all the time in our lives.

So I basically just let go and relaxed totally,

Maybe for the first time in my whole life,

Just utterly totally relaxed with the thought that life could never be any better than it is at this moment.

And that's when the miracle happened.

And we'll share more about the miracle another day.

But basically,

You know,

I felt,

You know,

Compelled to share my story and share my,

I don't know if you want to call this wisdom or just words with you to help comfort you if you're terminally ill or if you're knowing if you know somebody that you know you feel is not gonna be around much longer.

Yeah,

Like I said,

Death is not our enemy.

In fact,

You can't separate death and life.

They're like two sides of one coin.

Who knows what happens?

I personally think that you do come back again.

And as a surfer,

I mean,

I would love to be on this earth again and young and be able to experience what I've experienced in life,

You know.

But that's just my perspective,

You know.

You may be into totally different things that you do in life.

And a lot of my skydiving friends basically are very spiritual people too,

Just naturally.

You know,

You're never gonna feel as close to God in three minutes.

Then you never will do anything else in life.

Surfing comes close second.

And honestly,

I prefer to call myself a surfer because that has taken up and consumed almost everything I do,

The way I think,

The way I treat other people,

The way other people react to me.

It's all based around surfing etiquette and this tribalism that we learn out in the water,

This way of living.

And I just skydive whenever there's no waves.

When the weather's really good and there's no waves,

Then I hit it in the sky and enjoy that too.

Anyway,

Guys and girls and ladies and gentlemen,

Thank you very much for joining me.

I hope you enjoyed this talk.

Let me know how you think about it or if you have any comments or anything,

Questions that might want to get answered.

There is a comment section here on Insight Timer that will answer your questions or give me the opportunity to answer your questions.

I can't keep talking to you.

There's no means of communication past that.

But if you leave a comment,

I'm allowed to leave a comment to that comment and we can grow together.

We can become one whole unity of existence,

One person at a time.

Anyway,

Thanks again for your time,

Guys.

Take care of yourselves.

Namaste and aloha to all my surfing friends.

Bye bye.

I happened across while searching through "fear of death". You spoke of the miracle - where can I hear more about your experience?
