Welcome to this I Ching reading for the month of September 2025.
Let's start by relaxing into the body knowing that the relaxation,
The calm,
The peace in our systems,
In our mind assists this participatory process,
Assists us to receive this information and interpret it in the way that is most aligned with ourselves right now.
Just relaxing the body downwards and feeling yourself,
Your whole self earthing,
Connecting to the earth,
Sinking down and expanding up,
Feeling your muscles relaxing outwards.
Let the eyes become heavy,
The jaw released and let your breath now flow in a rhythm that feels comfortable for you.
Let your body relax in a way that is supportive.
And make space in your mind,
Any worries or stresses,
Gently move them to the side.
Breathing in more space and exhaling calm and peace.
Now let's breathe in trust and let's pause the breath in trust and then exhale trust so that this trust envelops us.
And the trust is an important ingredient in this process.
For this information which is rooted in Daoism is shared with the intention of your participation.
So it is trusting that we receiving this information at the right time and we trusting that our very own understanding and then application of it will unfold in a way that is most supportive.
And intentionally maintaining this calm serenity which allows the intuition to rise up.
Do you trust those first impressions and responses that come through?
They are from the subconscious,
From your heightened awareness,
From your intuitive self and sometimes they might not make sense.
And in those times trust.
And let's now start to intentionally connect with the waters within.
Connecting with the waters that are flowing through you within your body.
Connecting with the waters that are around you,
Perhaps in your glass,
Perhaps in a jug,
Out in the rivers,
In the ocean,
Above you,
In the clouds.
And water is a big theme for this month.
We have two hexagrams that are guiding us and water features in both of them.
And the first one is hexagram number 48 with the trigrams of water above wind,
Movements below water.
And water is largely of a yin nature.
However,
It does hold a hidden yang portion.
For the trigram is yin,
Yang,
Yin.
The yang is contained within this yin.
Sometimes one might not even be aware of the strength that is there.
And this imagery of water above wind in terms of the yin yang language,
We see it as yin,
Yang,
Yang followed by yin,
Yang,
Yin.
And this is known as the well.
And it's referring to resourcefulness.
Take your imagination now to the times when wells were the gathering point.
They were the places where people went to collect their water,
And this experience of collecting water was just that,
It was an experience.
People often gathered there not only for the water but to connect,
To commune,
To share.
And then when it came to the time of sending the bucket down into the well,
There was a skill that was required.
And one had to be extremely mindful and careful and present in order to be able to tilt the bucket in such a way that you got the bucket down.
The water without the sediment.
And so there was this presence that was required,
Presence while being active,
While there might be a lot of hubbub going around one,
To remain so attuned to the purpose of gathering this water.
So where in life do your resources lie?
And where in your life right now are you perhaps being called to reach out for support or nourishments?
Or perhaps are you the one that is often the gatherer of the nourishment for others?
And when you think of that,
What bubbles up within?
So water invites our awareness,
Our deeper awareness of certain situations which might have been going on for a while,
We might know them very well,
But there is still something more.
Or perhaps it is something that we need to look at,
Face on,
That we've been avoiding.
Let's take a moment now to contemplate those questions,
But also the imagery that was present,
That came through for you,
In relation to the well and gathering water and connecting at a well point,
Being poised and present.
And just keep the whole self relaxed,
Even if nothing feels like it's coming through right now.
On hearing information of this nature,
It has this ability to speak deep to one's heart,
One's subconscious.
So even when we might not be having an initial conscious response,
There is always information that is being processed.
So don't worry about conscious thoughts at this point,
Just simply be.
Remain with the well,
Remain with the water.
And then gently exhale and allow that imagery and that information to dissolve just a little bit.
So we now flow into the next hexagram,
Number 29,
Which now is water over water.
Two trigrams of water.
Just take a moment for yourself to consider the qualities of water that come up for you spontaneously.
And then exhale and let that be.
And consider water in flow,
Whether it is fast-moving or gently trickling.
When water is moving,
There is this continuity There is this incredible presence with what is.
As we know,
Water takes the shape of that which it enters.
It does not judge.
It travels to the depths of the darkest places.
It rises up into the sky towards the heavens.
And it just does what it needs to do.
Continuing to move in the way that it needs to,
Whether that is remaining in the space that it is or whether that is transforming from one state into another,
It is there.
Fulfilling its journey without question.
And if the waters are not in flow and are not continuing and there is a build-up,
There will be stagnation.
And this can hold much bacteria and this,
Over time,
Leads to a form of what we call death.
And this is the potential danger that water always holds.
It can be incredibly gentle and it's life-giving,
But it's also potentially life-taking.
So the message of this number 29 hexagram of water over water is reminding us to remain present,
To continue with what we need to continue with.
And if we need to change,
Then to do that.
But to do what needs to be done,
To be present with that process.
For if not,
There can be great destruction.
And so to be present,
We need to be able to bring ourselves into center.
And often this requires some keen focus.
So to be of sound mind,
To know the self.
These are all important qualities at all times,
But especially at this time that we are in,
Where there is so much potential change,
Or if that is not what is being asked of one in this moment,
The strength of presence in a particular situation may be what is of need right now.
Just ask of yourself where this relates to you,
How it relates to you.
And ask of yourself as well,
How can I be more like water?
Just showing up every day,
Trusting,
Purposefully moving from moment to moment,
Even if I don't know what is around the corner.
And are you being drawn more to the gentleness of water,
The strength of the power of water,
Or perhaps a balance of both?
And as we can see from these two hexagrams,
Out of the four trigrams,
Three are of water.
And water is quite different to the trigram of the leg.
This water archetype has a deeper message,
And it is asking of us to go deeper within,
To really know the self.
For we might not know what's even going to happen in the next few moments,
But just know the self.
And then one can relax into the flow of life,
Trusting that this river is taking us exactly where we need to go.
And as you move through this time,
Perhaps you might also like to intentionally connect more consciously with water,
Every time you sip water.
Just pause and give thanks for it,
Really notice it,
Feel it entering you,
And know that water is that which connects us all.
Or where this molecule of water is right now will be different to where it is tomorrow,
Next week,
Next month,
Next year,
Next century.
And one final message from hexagram 29 is keep things simple.
And wherever you can,
Simplify things even more.
This will assist in self-awareness,
It will assist in trust,
And in the ability to be present.
Thank you for journeying through these two hexagrams with me.
And I do wish for you a month of flow,
Of much resourcefulness,
And of simple beauties and joys.
And until we meet again for our October I Ching reading,
I wish you well.
