This short guided meditation is for those sticky, sulky moments when things feel a little bit funky. It's for those days when you're "in it" but looking for a helping hand out. Together, we'll honor whatever feelings and emotions are present in the mind, body and heart, and then purposefully and decidedly rise above. We'll do this by remembering that we are all the heroes of our own lives and just like the heroes we read about and watch on TV, we too must rise to the occasion of our one great life.

Hmm,

What is happening?

I'm proud of you for tuning in today.

This is a funky little meditation for when you are in a funk.

So sitting up straight,

Find a tall confident spine,

Even if you don't feel like it.

Root down through your sitting bones,

Reach through the crown of your head,

And slightly tuck your chin a little bit towards your chest.

Continue to breathe naturally,

But bring a little bit more length to your inhales and a little bit more depth to your exhales.

Find a slight engagement in your belly.

And settle in.

Stay connected to this breath.

As you inhale,

Feel your chest expand.

Maybe you get a little bit taller.

As you exhale,

Your belly contracts.

Belly button might come a little bit closer to your spine.

Use this as your anchor.

And if at any time you find yourself running with a thought or a plan for later,

Something else that's not in this present time and space,

Just come back to that breath.

That's something that I've learned,

And I'm learning again and again and again,

Right?

Because we learn the same lessons,

Just in different ways.

Is that life doesn't necessarily get easier.

In fact,

In my experience,

It gets more complicated and difficult.

But we become more skilled and adept at handling those challenges.

Become more skilled and adept at handling those challenges.

At pausing before we react.

Perhaps even consciously responding instead of reacting.

So sit with whatever is happening now.

Whatever funk you are in,

Just be in that energy.

Just sit and sulk for a moment.

Maybe you drop your shoulders.

Maybe you slouch.

Embody whatever it is you're feeling.

And really just give that emotion recognition.

Maybe you say in your head,

You know,

I can't believe that this is happening.

I can't believe that he did this.

I can't believe she never called me back or whatever.

Whatever it is.

Feeling not good enough.

Feeling hopeless.

Feeling lost.

And then come back to that breath.

And with each inhale,

Lengthen your spine.

Come back to that tall,

Confident seat.

Reach through the crown of your head.

Root down through your sitting bones.

Roll your shoulders down your back.

Now everything that happens to us is happening for us.

And energy is contagious.

So sometimes we need a moment to just sit and sulk and then redirect.

This is your redirection.

This is your redirection.

Now the way I like to redirect is to imagine that my life is a movie or a book.

And I,

Of course,

My life is a movie or a book.

And I,

Of course,

Am the main character who is heroic and strong and resilient.

And in my real life moments of crisis and when I am in a gunky funk,

I like to close my eyes and imagine how the hero of my story would respond.

What would she do in this moment?

How would she pull herself out of this feeling,

This fear,

This emotional state?

You can even give this hero a name or an alter ego.

So go back to whatever it is you're dealing with.

But keep that confident seat and that steady breath.

And see in your mind's eye,

Envision how your hero would respond to whatever's going on in your life today.

See it very clearly.

See yourself coming out of this meditation and living as that hero would.

You are that hero.

I know sometimes it doesn't feel like it.

But you are the hero of your life.
