We all have teachers and students who come through our lives, in many forms. Some are kind, gentle teachers. And, some deliver hard lessons, in a not so kind way. Yet, there is a lesson and a gift in everyone who passes through our lives. When we can reframe a negative experience; find the positive in it; and release it where it belongs - in the past - we can move ourselves out of feeling stuck; or limiting beliefs.

Welcome to Sunday Brunch,

A laid-back casual approach to exploring our thoughts,

Feelings,

Actions,

Experiences,

And life.

I'm Jackie Almer.

Thanks for sharing brunch with me.

Teachers and students in our lives,

At some point in life,

We are both.

The teacher and the student.

Everyone is a teacher.

Everyone is a student.

And not just from formal schooling,

But from all of life.

Think about the teachers in your life.

You've probably had some great ones and maybe some not so great ones.

Some teach us something right in the moment,

That first moment that we encounter them.

And we may never even learn their name or see them again.

And some teachers teach us over time.

Students are the same.

And we all have students in our lives.

Those who we teach and mentor.

Often our children are our first students.

Our students are often our teachers too.

And when we stop,

Listen,

And think about their role in our lives,

We learn so much.

Some teachers,

We call friends.

And some teachers,

Well,

We think of them as not so friendly.

Some of them I call ace in the holes.

You may know what I mean by that.

You could just replace the word ace and remove in the from the sentence and you'll know exactly what I mean.

When we think of those teachers who are ace in the holes or challenging to us,

Maybe someone specific comes to mind.

A teacher in your life,

Maybe from your past.

They deliver the hard lessons in a not so kind way.

Sometimes we call them haters,

Shamers,

And trolls.

Lately,

With all that's gone on in the world,

We label them as those people on the other side from us politically,

Philosophically,

On social,

Economic,

Religious,

And security issues.

And hopefully like you,

I've learned to love them just as much as the friendly ones to me.

And I know it's hard.

I get it.

And while the lesson may be tougher,

It is often one that teaches me so much.

How do you view these types of teachers in your life?

Does someone specific come to mind for you?

Think about it for just a bit and let whatever thoughts are going to come just come.

Don't judge them.

Don't push them away.

That's the thoughts or the teachers.

Just listen,

Think,

And look for the lesson.

Everyone who comes to our lives is there for a reason.

They serve a purpose and they are a gift.

They just don't come gift wrapped with a neat little bow.

It can be very difficult to remember this when we are in the struggle,

The struggle with them,

Struggle with something else in our lives,

Struggle with ourselves.

But they have value for us when we seek to find it.

Imagine the best experience you've had from a teacher.

Picture it in your mind.

Imagine that feeling that came from the experience,

That learning lesson.

Where do you feel it in your body?

How does it feel there in your body?

Can you give it a name?

Can you name the feeling or emotion?

Sit with it for a moment.

Feel the joy of that memory and that experience.

It's probably pretty easy,

Isn't it?

It often is with those positive experiences.

You might even find a smile coming to your face.

How often do you remember that feeling,

That emotion,

That person or experience?

How often do you bring that up in your mind?

Now think of a person,

Student or teacher who came through your life that delivered a hard message,

A hurt,

A rejection,

A betrayal.

Is it an event,

A circumstance,

A feeling,

An emotion?

What's the one thing that you feel about that?

Give it a word.

Name it.

Just one feeling,

One emotion,

One word.

You don't need to replay the entire story over in your mind.

Just come up with the feeling and feel it.

Now take a deep breath in and ask,

What is the gift in this?

What is the lesson for me to learn?

I know it can be very challenging.

We love to fight against what is.

We don't want to accept negative feelings and experiences and so we fight with it.

But the reality of it is,

There is a gift and there is a lesson.

And we can argue with the past,

We can argue with what is,

But we can never change it.

But when we try and separate our ego out from it and remind ourselves that this was more about them,

The person who hurt us or betrayed us,

Their inner child and struggles,

They may have lashed out at you and it may have stung,

Yet it had meaning,

Didn't it?

You've assigned it some meaning and that's why you remember it so easily.

Feel it so swiftly.

Perhaps you've even allowed it to have control over you,

To create limiting beliefs that you live by,

Even still today,

Maybe years later.

Maybe that person is no longer even in your life or never completely was in your life.

And yet they still have a hold over you.

If you're still holding onto the hurt,

The pain,

The suffering,

The negative feelings around them,

Remember this,

This person and event no longer need to be in your life.

The lesson can remain,

But the negative emotion and energy need not remain.

That emotion,

That energy and that person no longer serve you.

They are no longer needed.

They had a purpose in your life.

They came through for a reason and they served you for a time.

And now it's time to let go,

To move on.

Breathe in deeply and then picture them.

Say their name if you're able.

Say thank you.

Thank them honestly and authentically.

And if that's too challenging,

Just thank the lesson.

Imagine the lesson.

Feel the lesson.

Feel the benefits that the lesson has provided for you.

Thrive in the lesson.

Thank the emotion.

Thank the change that it created for you.

Thank the wake up call that it gave to you.

This lesson is within you and can serve you in the most positive ways,

Always,

Moving forward.

This does not lessen the pain of the past and what you experienced.

It doesn't make it okay or condone it in any way.

Yet it's just that it is the past and continuing to bring it up into the present or projected into the future only serves to keep you stuck.

So say thank you for the growth,

For making me stronger,

For pushing me to limits I didn't know I possessed.

How often do you remember this feeling,

This emotion,

This person or experience?

Does it cause you to stumble and hold back even now?

How is it affecting your personal relationships?

How is it affecting you and your business and your career?

How is it keeping you stuck?

What might happen if you were to reframe the way you view the lesson and the person to truly shift from feeling the negative to feeling gratitude for the gift,

Just the gift and the growth?

Is it possible to feel the gratitude,

To create the same feeling around it as your best memory from one of your best teachers?

How might that improve your life?

You have so much inner wisdom within you right at your fingertips,

At your disposal anytime you want to tap into it.

Say a little prayer of gratitude that you are so surrounded by so much inner wisdom,

Your own wisdom,

Wisdom that has been forged by fire within you.

Isn't that kind of cool?

How can you take this out into your life,

Into your business goals and make some changes that are positive?

I'm looking forward to an amazing day and week ahead.

Are you?

I hope so.

Good luck to you and thanks for being on this journey with me and spending this time together.

Don't hesitate to reach out and connect and share your results with me.

May peace,

Joy and abundance find you today and may you also find peace,

Joy and abundance.

I'm Jackie Aylmer.

Thanks for listening.
