Listen to this quick recording if you're giving yourself a hard time for feeling messy, depressed, or exhausted. It's a short and helpful reminder to give yourself a darn break now and again. Being human can be challenging. You're not alone in that. So, let me give you permission to have a wee bit of self-compassion. Or, at the very least, self-tolerance.

This recording is intended for anyone who's in a place of SOS,

Riding the struggle bus a little bit.

My significant other calls it the suck,

Or a storm,

Or a valley.

If you're in the spot,

You know what it is.

So quick lesson for you.

Super simple bite-sized piece,

Because I know it's a miracle that you're even listening to this right now.

Here's some permission for you.

It's okay to be messy,

Right?

It's okay to get messy,

To fall apart,

To feel like a blob of nothingness on the kitchen floor.

Where nothing makes sense,

And your skin feels tight,

And you are certain that the missing oven mitt is the worst thing that's happened to anyone ever.

It's okay.

I mean,

I once had a full meltdown because I saw a Yorkie and he was smiling,

And I just said,

I'll never know that joy.

And I wept for three hours.

Sometimes we gotta let it out.

Sometimes we break down or melt down and get messy,

And that's okay.

So it's okay,

You know,

If you don't shower today.

Though you'll feel and likely smell better if you do,

But it's okay if you don't.

And it's fine if you merely exist under your weighted blanket in pajamas that smell of stale farts.

You are a champion for surviving times like this.

Seriously,

Please realize that.

It's a big deal that you deal with this type of pain and you're still here and you're still fighting and you're listening to this meditation right now.

So give yourself a break and allow yourself space to be however you are right now.

Stop trying to fight it.

Stop trying to change how you feel.

Just be there now and know that it's okay and it will pass.

It'll lift.

You know,

The storm will lift.

The valley will end.

But for now just breathe and give yourself a break.

The algorithm here on IT definitely knew I needed this right now. 🙌🏻 gonna let myself be messy in this storm, and after it blows through for a bit. Thank you 💓

It’s funny I thought this was about actual physical clutter in my home, but I certainly need to hear this message because I think some how my cluttery home is has something to do with my cluttery life or make that psyche my cluttery psyche

It’s like listening to a best friend who is helping you with a check in, and that you will be ok. Loved it!

Wow! Sometimes at the end of the day when I do my practice, I’m looking for something. Tonight, Jen hit the need (nail) on the spot (head). My need was to be reassured that I was doing my best because there is no one ( in my living arrangement of my brother and I taking care my 93 years Mom who’s sharp as a tack but can’t compliment me for fear of offending my brother the narcissist) who would. But here comes Jen with my permission to accept that I’m okay and I’ll survive this which i always took as a threat because I didn’t want to live like this anymore. But Jen implied that it’s okay wherever I am right now. Well stated, well presented, great examples and the reassurance that this valley isn’t permanent and what I was doing and where I was was okay.

Somewhere deep down you know. Sometimes you just need someone else to point it out; and Jen does so with the perfect blend of lightheartedness and sincerity.

That's a lovely little meditation, thank you. Letting go is probably one of the hardest things for me and I'm certain many others to do. Holding on tight is how I survived 62 years so far. Letting go into the chaos is proving very hard. Thanks for the wise words, I shall work on it.

Oh my gosh! Thank you! I needed this so much! My “theme song” lately seems to be Weathered by Creed. I am totally saving this to re-listen to when I need it! 🙏

You described the pain and being in the valley so well. And feeling worse about the farty pjs and dog hair from my dog who adores me, doesn't help. It's always so helpful to be reminded that it passes by people who know this place. Thank you.
