Hello,
This is Joanne here again,
And today we're going to be harmonising the yin and yang to create unity.
This technique is found in Pralayama theory and is known as alternate nostril breathing.
We're going to combine this Pralayama technique with the sound of mantra,
And this further activates the left and right brain and allows the two sides to come into harmony.
The energy of a human dances between two polar forces,
And in most people one of these energies tends to dominate,
Bringing them into balance is key.
So we start with blocking off the right nostril with your right thumb,
And inhale slowly through the left nostril until the lungs are full.
Then block off the left nostril with your ring finger of the right hand,
And exhale through the right nostril until the air is emptied from the lungs.
And again,
Inhale through the right nostril when the inhale is full,
Switch fingers,
Blocking off the right nostril,
And exhaling through the left nostril.
This is a very common Pralayama technique and is called alternate nostril breathing,
And it balances the two aspects of your body,
Including the masculine and the feminine,
The sun and the moon,
The yang and the yin.
And we'll do this exercise for a few minutes.
And you can add an internal sound mantra to increase the effects of this balancing technique.
And this sound is made sub-vocally within you.
So when you breathe in through the left nostril,
Let the mantra SO resound through your body.
And when you breathe out through the right nostril,
Let that mantra HAM resound through the body.
And then next,
Inhale through the right nostril,
Use the mantra HAM again.
When the lungs are full,
Block off the right nostril and exhale through the left nostril with the SO.
SO and HAM are seed sounds,
And they can balance the solar and lunar energy in the body and mind and connect you to the unity of the creator,
Spirit,
Guides,
Etc.
The SO sound is sounded when the breath is moving through the left side,
And the HAM is sounded when the breathing is moving through the right nostril.
It can take a little bit of time to get the hang of this,
But once you do,
It's a simple technique and I find I lose myself in it,
Which is very peaceful and calming.
And so since this might be your first try,
We will carry on just for another few minutes.
But you can increase the amount of time you do as it becomes more comfortable.
And if this is the first time with the inner mantra,
Internal sounds still have a resounding vibrationary effect on your body-mind system.
Focus as much as you can on this internal sound,
But making it sub-vocally.
Do not express it with your vocal cords.
Express it with your consciousness or an internal level.
If you like,
You can gently hum the sound,
Making it half sub-vocal and half expressed.
Try this a few times to get used to it.
It's good to practice this technique once a day.
I do it every morning to balance and activate a harmony in me.
It can be done for up to 20 minutes twice a day.
And this technique is great when you feel you are out of balance in any way.
It has the attribute of being both energizing and relaxing at the same time because of the balance between the yin relaxing and the yang energizing.
So let's carry on for a little bit.
Breathing in through the left nostril and then out with the right nostril.
Breathe in and internalize the hum.
And breathe out the so.
Left and right.
In right,
Out left.
In so,
And out hum.
In hum,
And out so.
In so,
In hum,
Out so.
In so,
Out hum.
In hum,
Out so.
In so,
Out hum.
In hum,
Out so.
In so,
In hum.
In hum,
Out so.
In so,
Out hum.
In hum,
Out so.
In so,
In hum,
Out so.
Now just put your hands on your heart space and just listen to the silence.
Listen to how that's resonated in your body.
Namaste.
