For me,

Sitting 30 or 40 minutes at a time feels insufficient.

One hour each morning and evening,

However,

Feels a little like wasting time because I'm not progressing or expanding focused time on the breath or consciousness.

I feel I'm being greedy in my desire to settle the mud of delusive thinking.

By focusing on the breath with our mind and body at rest and relaxation,

By focusing on the breath with our mind and body at rest and relaxation,

If we can prevent ourselves from chasing after these random thoughts,

If we can prevent ourselves from chasing after these random thoughts,

Our mind and body will be even more relaxed and peaceful.

Our mind and body will be even more relaxed and peaceful.

Our mind and body will be even more relaxed and peaceful.

So within this kind of guidance,

These parameters,

You do the best you can.

So within this kind of guidance,

These parameters,

The measuring of our progress or trying to measure the efficacy of this practice by how much time you devote to it,

That whole goal-oriented performance measure itself is the wrong approach.

As you work,

If you don't have a lot of random thoughts,

And you are able to focus and you don't have a lot of distraction,

That in itself is good enough.

If you are researching and you are focused on a research topic and you don't have a lot of distracting thoughts because you are focused on that topic,

That in itself is good enough.

So you don't have to necessarily create time for meditation separately as a dedicated time or try to feel bored because you have some time left.

In everyday life,

You can wake up and maybe spend 30-40 minutes in meditation.

And start your day with a stable,

More peaceful mind.

And if you feel during the middle of the day that your head is racing and you have a lot of distractions,

Then you can pause and meditate to calm it down.

If at night,

If you feel drowsy and sleepy,

Go ahead and just sleep.

But if you feel distracted,

There are a lot of thoughts racing,

Then if you can pause and meditate,

It will naturally lead to sleep.

And if you have some more time during the weekends,

If you have a longer meditation session,

That's good too.

Or during the year,

Maybe on a quarterly basis,

Or half yearly basis,

If you can spend a week to ten days in consistent meditation,

That's great too.

And if you can take off more time,

It's better if you can just do it for three weeks in a row.

So you don't have to necessarily separate out the meditation from your everyday life.

They can be kind of cohesive whole.

And no matter how busy you are,

If there are a lot of thoughts racing inside your head,

You should pause and meditate.

It's almost like a mental rest.

And you don't have to set a time for it.

You have to do it for so and so many minutes or hours.

It's good to be consistent in terms of everyday meditation as to time and duration.

And maybe take a little more time weekly basis to do it,

To expand that time.

And maybe monthly or bi-monthly basis,

Try to find a little more time to do meditation for a little more constantly,

Consistently.

Maybe once a year,

You can devote about ten days to meditation.

So maybe try to pre-schedule it over the year.

But in everyday life,

When you have time or when your thoughts are racing,

Just pause and try to meditate.

Just as you need to rest your body when it gets tired,

If you're under stress,

If your thoughts are distracted,

You need to take a pause and rest.

Or if your emotions are racing high for whatever reason,

Then you need to calm it down.

And do this in the middle of your everyday life.

So instead of looking at meditation as something you need to achieve or something that you're lazy in trying to do,

Just make it a part of your everyday life,

Everyday routine.

So when I get questions about meditation,

It almost seems like a lot of people are treating it as just another project they have to focus on.

And they've been doing it for a very long time.

So I think it's very important for us to understand that meditation is not just a hobby.

Meditation is not just a hobby.

Meditation is not just a hobby.

It's almost like a lot of people are treating it as just another project they have to focus on.

And they build all these performance metrics around it.

Meditation is all about letting that frame go.
