Today’s Mantra for Sanskrit week is one of my favorites teaching us patience & self-compassion! Let’s chant! My dear friend, Pierre Bensusan, has permitted me to use his track called ‘Sentimentales Pyromaniaques’ from the album 'Altiplanos'. Photo by Alexey Demidov

Namaste and welcome to the Spirit Room's daily podcast,

In the Flow with Laurie Albert,

Where we discuss spirituality,

Meditate,

And allow positivity to envelop every aspect of our souls.

Welcome.

So today's mantra for Sanskrit week is one of my favorites.

It's gentle and when you consider its meaning,

You realize,

You realize that we are all works in progress.

Om Mani Padme Hum.

It's translated to,

I bow to the jewel of the lotus.

So to me,

You know,

So as some of you may know,

The lotus flower is absolutely gorgeous,

Right?

It's beautiful and you know,

I mean it comes in,

There's so many colors,

Blah,

Blah,

Blah,

All of that,

Right?

But it sits on top of the pond,

But its roots are in the mud and it has to come the whole way up.

It's a lot of work to come the whole way up to the top of the pond to become this beautiful flower,

Right?

What I usually take from this mantra,

It's a significant mantra,

By the way,

As well,

Is that we all have a past.

Some parts of our past are amazing,

Awesome memories and situations and some parts are lessons that we must continue to learn from,

Right?

But if we allow ourselves the opportunity to grow and it's like the little engine that could,

Right?

You keep growing and growing and growing up through that mud and the muck and the dirt,

We can transform ourselves into that beautiful flower for the whole world to see.

Isn't that amazing?

I love that,

Right?

Okay,

So this mantra also makes me think about patience,

Okay?

In dealing with ourselves,

Our attributes and our flaws,

Right?

We have the ability to recognize within ourselves that we are all works in progress and we should have patience.

Do you have patience with yourself?

I think that that's such an amazing quality to have.

I have none.

I shouldn't say none.

I have very little.

I want it what I want right now and that's kind of who I am.

I always feel like for me that this mantra tells me that I need to slow down and just know that spirit has my back.

I mean,

Seriously,

Right?

So here's the deal.

There are two major lessons about this particular mantra,

Self-compassion and patience.

So I mean,

How significant is that,

Right?

So I have to say that,

You know,

Me being me,

I generally have,

Like I said,

No patience and gosh,

Honestly,

Very little sometimes,

You know,

I mean,

We all go through that time sometimes where we have very little self-compassion for ourselves and this mantra is like the best reminder to just keep moving forward,

Right?

So today I've got my mala beads,

Okay,

And we are going to chant Om Mani Padme Hum 108 times.

Yes,

We're going to do it and it's easy,

Breezy.

Let's just relax,

Right?

So we chant it 108 times.

108 seems to be like a sacred number on many levels,

Like astrologically and,

You know,

There's a lot of reasons why we meditate,

That we chant 108 times.

But for me,

I like to,

In my head,

It brings us to like this complete vibration.

There's like a harmony that starts to happen.

When you start,

And I know I've said this before,

When you start to chant over and over and over again,

Your body starts to get into this vibration.

That's why I love Krishna Das so much because when he chants,

It just keeps going and going and going and finally it becomes just like you're in the middle of this way of being where you're just like,

Oh yeah,

Right?

And so then that to me is when the meaning of the mantra is really in your heart,

Right?

That's what I love.

So it's a sacred,

Sacred number.

Okay,

So,

And I don't know,

Do you guys have mala beads?

These are my mala beads that I got from David G.

I have,

Oh,

I don't know where they are,

They're over there.

I've got other mala beads,

They're just gorgeous,

You know?

I mean,

They're just gorgeous,

You know?

And kind of like rosary beads,

I used to love rosary beads too,

You know?

So okay,

You got yours and are you all ready?

We're going to do this,

Okay?

So basically what we're just going to do is we're going to go Om Mani Padme Hum.

It's very easy,

It's a low key,

It should not be difficult to do,

Blah,

Blah,

Blah.

So are we ready?

Okay,

You can close your eyes,

You can hum along,

You can sing along,

You can do whatever feels right for you,

Okay?

Or you can just listen,

Just listen,

Okay?

So let's take a deep breath in and release.

Let's start with a beautiful Om.
