How do you meditate? Sitting? Lying down? Music? Silence? Let’s discuss! My dear friend, Pierre Bensusan, has permitted me to use his track called ‘Sentimentales Pyromaniaques’ from the album 'Altiplanos'. “The Ancient Angels” composed by Music Of Wisdom - Licensed from meditationmusiclibrary

Welcome to In the Flow with Lori Albert,

A brief,

Positivity-inspiring chat and meditation designed to uplift and motivate us to live our best lives.

Let's get in the flow.

All right,

So there is a big debate that happens in meditation.

Big debate.

Here it is.

Should we listen to music during meditation or should we sit in complete silence?

This is the debate.

Is it bad for us to listen to music while we're meditating?

Is it bad?

Should we sit in the silence?

There's so many trains of thought.

So many.

Here's my take.

And this is my take.

Okay,

And it's gonna differ from,

You know,

Everybody has their own way of thinking.

But here's mine.

Okay.

I think it's all important.

I think it's important to,

I think it's important to try different things and see what works for you.

I mean,

You know,

I mean,

It all depends on,

Here's my thing.

It depends also on our mood,

Right?

Where we are in our lives,

What time of day it is,

What kind of day we're having,

That sort of thing,

Right?

I feel like I'm going to have it or I should say it this way.

If I feel like I'm gonna have no problem meditating,

Right?

And have,

And able to sort of control my thoughts,

I will sit in silence.

Right?

Because if you know how you're being,

Then you can do that,

Right?

However,

If I'm feeling antsy,

Which may or may not be happening,

Right?

I will put on ethereal music with no lyrics,

No melody line.

Now don't forget,

My background is the music industry.

So I have this whole thing around music,

Right?

It inspires,

It brings you up,

It can make you sad,

It can make you melancholy,

Can make you thrilled,

Right?

All of that.

It can make you angry,

To be honest.

You know?

So that's my,

How I feel about music.

It can,

Ethereal music will chill me out almost instantaneously and I will be able to go deep.

That's kind of how,

And I really enjoy that,

You know?

And it depends on,

You know,

Sometimes it's the,

I listen to Hindu music,

Oh my gosh,

With the,

All the different instruments that I can't think of at the moment.

The one that Krishna Das plays,

The sitar.

But yeah,

The one that Krishna Das plays is just freaking amazing.

But anyway,

David G,

Now here's where I sort of differ just a bit,

Right?

Dave G taught us that silence is the best way to meditate.

And he's not wrong,

Obviously,

You know?

But I respectfully,

Absolutely respectfully think that,

I think it's kind of a personal decision.

I get more out of my meditation sometimes,

You know,

When I have ethereal music on.

But I feel really relaxed when I sit in the silence.

So,

You know,

David G also though,

Teaches us that if you're comfortable in doing your meditation,

You will come back and do it again.

So then there's that,

Right?

So today,

What we are going to do is we are going to,

I'm going to put some music on and we're going to try,

You know,

We're going to go a little bit long,

And we are going to,

We're going to relax our bodies,

And we're going to allow ourselves to try to go deep in with this music that I have.

And I've played this music before,

But it's one of those sort of haunting melodies that allows me to go deep.

And when I say haunting,

I don't mean like spiritual haunting,

But it's just,

That's how it is about the music.

Anyway,

So let's get ourselves comfortable because I want us to really get into this today.

I hope that everybody's at a place where we can sit and meditate for a few minutes,

Right?

So here we go.

No mantra today.

We are going to relax our bodies.

Close your eyes.

Let's take a deep breath in.

And release it.

Let's allow our bodies to start really relaxing.

Starting at the top of our heads.

And moving slowly down our bodies,

Our neck.

Our shoulders.

Our arms.

Keep moving all the way down slowly down your body,

Placing attention on all your muscles to relax them.

Our chest,

Our abdomen.

Our pelvis area.

All the way down to our feet.

And I want us to focus on our breath.

Feeling the ebb and the flow of the air coming in our bodies.

And out.

Let's sit and allow this music to take us as deep as we can.

Let's relax our bodies.

And release it.

And release it.

Let's relax our bodies.

All the way down our bodies.

All the way down our bodies.

All the way down our bodies.

All the way down our bodies.

All the way down our bodies.

All the way down our bodies.

All the way down our bodies.

All the way down our bodies.

All the way down our bodies.

All the way down our bodies.

All the way down our bodies.

All the way down our bodies.

All the way down our bodies.

All the way down our bodies.

Let's start bringing our awareness back to our bodies.

Become aware of the chair where you're sitting in.

Move your fingers and toes.

Allow your mind to come back from this beautiful place.

Whenever you feel comfortable,

You can open your eyes.

Namaste.
