In today’s 5 Minutes in Nature, Liz continues the exploration of the Three Principles by focusing on the Principle of Thought. In this fifth part of the conversation, she shares how Thought goes far beyond the inner voice that constantly comments on our experience. Thought is fluid and ever-changing—and, by its nature, it will settle on its own. Instead of trying to fix or control it, Liz invites you to deepen your understanding of the true nature of Thought.

Hello and welcome to Five Minutes in Nature with me Liz Scott and I'm right beside one of these city parks.

These not big parks,

These are like little parks that I think probably in the Victorian age houses were built around these little green areas,

Tiny green areas and it meant the people that lived around them had this little green area that they could use as a garden.

It's very pretty,

It's got trees and it's private.

I can't go in there but I can stare over the hedge and look at the trees and the grasses that are growing in this grassy little area.

And over the last four days we've been exploring the three principles.

I'm going to continue this conversation now.

If you want to start at the beginning,

Please do.

This is number five in the series so you want to go back to the beginning to just get the sense of what we're talking about.

Yesterday I started to explain about the three principles and what they are,

Starting off with the principle of mind.

And just as an aside,

If you're interested in the three principles,

You might be interested to look at my course,

The Three Principles,

An Introduction.

So that would be possibly a good starting point.

But yesterday as we looked at the principle of mind,

We looked at this unifying element.

So we're not talking about our individual minds,

We're talking about the principle of mind,

The universal intelligence of mind.

And that's what we touched on yesterday.

Bear in mind these three principles are shared by all of us.

Every single human being creates their life via these three principles.

Everyone is connected to this deeper wise intelligence.

That's the principle of mind.

And today we're also going to look at the principle of thought and tomorrow we'll look at the principle of consciousness,

Which is the third of the three principles.

So when we talk about the principle of thought,

It's really helpful to understand that we're not talking about the content of thinking.

For years and years and years I was fascinated by thinking.

I was fascinated by my beliefs.

I was fascinated by my limiting beliefs.

I was fascinated by positive thinking and changing my thinking.

For me,

The majority of time my thinking turns up for me like a voice in my head.

It's like giving a running commentary on my life.

It's quite noisy and it's very good at vying for my attention.

But the principle of thought is not thinking.

Thinking is part of the principle of thought,

But it isn't the whole of it.

The principle of thought is covering everything that we use thought for.

Thought is used to imagine a future.

Thought is used to create experiences from the past.

Thought is used to imagine what you might want to eat tonight.

Thought is used to plan and to work things out.

Anything you look at that has been made by man has been created via the principle of thought.

It hasn't come into existence apart from through the principle of thought.

And what's really helpful about understanding the nature of thought is that when you begin to understand the nature of thought,

You are able to align yourself with how it works rather than fight against it.

And for me,

For many years,

I had been trying to change my thinking.

I've been trying to think more positively and get rid of my limiting beliefs.

Trust me,

It's so much more powerful just to understand thought.

And one of the things to share with you about thought is that we all experience different phases of thought.

There'll be unsettled thought,

Insecure thought,

There'll be happy thoughts,

There'll be positive thoughts.

We experience a whole spectrum of thought.

Imagine thought a bit like the colors you might be able to see.

We can see a spectrum of colors.

We experience a spectrum of thought.

And one of the really useful elements to know about thought is that it is a bit like a cloud in the sky.

If you've ever watched a cloud in a blue sky,

That cloud will change shape.

It will look solid,

But actually you know it's not solid.

And thought is like that.

Our thinking is like that.

Our thinking changes.

It shifts.

It's never stable.

And if you understand that about thought,

It really helps you as you navigate through life.

If you agitate thought further,

It will feel more agitated.

The nature of thought is that if you leave it alone,

It settles.

These are really helpful things to understand.

So today we've looked very briefly at the nature of thought.

And don't forget if you want to learn a bit more about the three principles,

The three principles and introduction might be a good starting point.

And tomorrow we're going to look at the principle of consciousness.

Thank you 🙏🏼 Liz I like the idea of thoughts being like clouds 🌤️⛈️🌦️🌧️☁️and as you say , if we leave them alone they will settle. Clouds change shape, thoughts change shape. That makes sense. 🙏🏼

Thanks for another informative session. I’ve spent a few hours researching Sidney Banks. Found his videos hard going sometimes. but it’s great we have the opportunity to learn new things
