Welcome.
This is Abigail Morrissey Reardon.
And today I will be guiding you through meditation to acknowledge and witness fear surrounding the birth and for your new role as a mother.
Fear is an emotion that we experience as humans.
Fear is natural.
It is normal to experience fear.
Often we are taught to suppress or to ignore,
To bypass,
To overcome fear.
And in doing this,
We do not acknowledge the fear.
We don't allow it to be seen,
Which makes the fear louder,
Which makes us more fearful.
The fear grows when we do not witness it.
Body as a tightness in the chest,
A pain in the throat,
Tension in the shoulders or jaw,
Hips or sacrum.
The more we ignore it,
The louder it becomes.
Fear can mask itself as anxiety,
Insomnia,
Anger or rage.
Today I will guide you to acknowledge your fears,
To confront them,
To see them,
So they can release their grasp over you.
I invite you now to get into a comfortable position.
You can be seated or lying down,
Whatever feels best for you.
Then slowly close your eyes and bring your attention inwards.
Notice your breath.
Feel the lungs expand as you breathe in.
And feel them contract as you breathe out.
Continue witnessing your breath,
Noticing the rise of the chest as you inhale.
And then allow it to collapse as you exhale.
Notice any areas of tension or tightness in the body.
Check in with any parts of the body that may be speaking to you.
Maybe there's a pain or a knot.
Bring your awareness to this area now.
If you'd like,
You can place your hands on this area of tension or tightness.
And with your hands on this body part,
Ask the body part to name its fears out loud,
Or if you prefer,
You can silently say them in your mind.
Give this part of your body an opportunity to speak the fear out loud.
Once you've witnessed the fear,
Respond by saying,
It is normal and natural to have that fear.
It is normal and natural to have that fear.
Continue speaking your fears out loud or silently in your mind until you feel the tension in the body part has released.
You are now speaking your fear out loud.
If you feel the tension in the body part has released,
Respond by saying,
It is normal and natural to have that fear.
If you feel the tension in the body part has released,
Respond by saying,
It is normal and natural to have that fear.
If you feel the tension in the body part has released,
Respond by saying,
It is normal and natural to have that fear.
If you feel the tension in the body part has released,
Respond by saying,
It is normal and natural to have that fear.
If you feel the tension in the body part has released,
Respond by saying,
It is normal and natural to have that fear.
If you feel the tension in the body part has released,
Respond by saying,
It is normal and natural to have that fear.
Feel into the body once more and notice if there is another area of tension or tightness.
If you'd like,
You can move your hands to this place now.
And again,
Allow this part of the body to speak its fears out loud.
Once you state your fears,
Either out loud or silently in your mind,
Respond by saying,
It is normal and natural to have this fear.
It is normal and natural to have that fear.
Continue working through your body,
Working through your fears until you release all the tension,
All of the discomfort.
Continue working through your fears until you release all the discomfort.
Continue working through your fears until you release all the discomfort.
Continue working through your fears until you release all the discomfort.
Continue working through your fears until you release all the discomfort.
Bring your attention now to your heart center.
Take a moment to connect to the feeling of gratitude.
Give thanks to your beautiful body,
Your body that is working to grow a baby inside of you,
A body that is working to support you as you create a new life.
Give thanks to all that is present,
All of the love and support,
Everything that nurtures you,
Your body and your baby.
Allow this feeling of gratitude to radiate from your heart center throughout your body.
Allow the feelings of love to envelop you.
And then let go of this feeling of gratitude.
And again,
Connect to your breath,
Noticing the inhale and the exhale.
When you feel ready,
You can invite some movement back into the body.
Begin to wiggle your fingers and toes.
Maybe shrug your shoulders up and down.
And then take the deepest breath you've taken today.
And then exhale,
Let it all go.
When you feel ready,
You can open your eyes and return back into the room.
When you witness fear,
When you validate it,
It no longer has the power over you.
It no longer is in control.
If you would like,
Continue with this meditation by journaling and writing down your fears,
Witnessing and acknowledging all the fears you might have surrounding labor,
Delivery and the arrival of your newborn child.
Continue to come back to this time and time again,
As long as it serves you.
Thank you so much for joining me today for this meditation surrounding fear.
I wish you the best of luck in your upcoming journey of labor,
Delivery and becoming a mother,
Sending you love and light.
Thank you.
