Many of us who struggle with anxiety have a hard time falling asleep and or staying asleep. In this short guided relaxation, we prepare both the body and mind to rest by releasing worry, physical tension and leveraging a coherent breathing practice to drop us into a deep relaxation. Having a notepad beside your bed as you listen is reccomended.

Good evening.

Tonight is your opportunity to just rest.

Just allow every cell in your body to rejuvenate.

Let's start by noticing.

Are there thoughts swirling around that you need to write down on paper?

In order to rest?

Is that project you didn't get finished gnawing at you?

Or maybe to-dos that might wake you up in the middle of the night if you don't quickly jot them down?

What worries can you set aside right now if you simply put them on paper?

Just press pause and resume when ready.

Now let's check in with the body.

How are you feeling?

How do you want to wake up feeling tomorrow?

Bringing your awareness to the breath.

Let's breathe.

We're going to lengthen the breath cycle to a five second inhale and a five second exhale.

I'll guide you in and then do your best to keep that longer than normal,

Deeper than normal breath cycle.

Inhaling for two,

Three,

Four,

Five.

And exhaling two,

Three,

Four,

Five.

Inhaling two,

Three,

Four,

Five.

Exhaling two,

Three,

Four,

Five.

Inhaling two,

Three,

Four,

Five.

And exhaling two,

Three,

Four,

Five.

Inhaling.

Exhaling.

Continuing like that as you allow the muscles in your face to relax.

The cheeks,

The temples.

What about the jaw?

Can you release a bit of tension by just moving it side to side?

And maybe taking just a stretch.

Stretching through the fingers,

Stretching through the toes.

And now allowing the arms and legs to soften.

And allowing the shoulders to soften.

And releasing any tension in the back.

Can you get just 10% more comfortable with any adjustments?

Inhaling.

And as you exhale,

Reminding yourself,

I release worry.

Inhaling.

And as you exhale,

I release doubt.

Inhaling.

And as you exhale,

I release fear.

What am I grateful for?

What am I grateful to be?

What am I grateful to have?

Sleep deep,

My friend.
