Healing The Habit Of Self-Abandonment

With Kiran Patel

In this course, we explore how we may have learned in our early years to abandon ourselves to create connection and safety with others. How habits of people pleasing and over-giving can carry over into adulthood, and how we can neglect our own needs because we have not learned how to tend to them. Here we turn inward and return our attention to ourselves.

Lesson 1

The Roots Of Self-Abandonment

We are much like trees; our habits have roots, and they are not random occurrences. What we see as our personality traits is very often historical. There was a reason those patterns in our personalities were born and why they persist.

Lesson 2

The Signs We’ve Left Ourselves Behind

Energy is invisible, but it can be felt, and we notice when we are running low on it. It is an invisible force that allows us to notice where there are areas where our energy is leaking and not being utilised effectively. We can tell by the fact that we get tired or feel drained after interacting with certain people, having particular conversations, or participating in certain activities.

Lesson 3

Reclaiming Your Inner Home

If you have been in the habit of people pleasing, then there will have been a tendency to focus more on others than on yourself. In a way, we leave ourselves behind to go and attend to others. This isn’t even a selfless act; it is an action we take so that we can acquire a sense of safety within ourselves. We feel as though we need to control the happiness of those around us so that we can feel at peace.

Lesson 4

Living As Your Own Safe Place

Overnight transformations are very appealing. We are all accustomed now to witnessing stories of change that happened instantaneously. Going from self-abandonment to self-love as quickly as possible might seem alluring. The truth is that the majority of us will need to create a slow and sustainable route to transformation that is more grounded and gentle.

Thank you for this course. I’ve been on this journey of reorienting myself to mySelf for many years. It has been a slow journey for me because I have to live it into existence. As I continue, I am reacquainted with how dearly I love my solitude AND that in my solitude I’m not alone. Thank you for your support 💕

I came across this course at just the right time to be able to sit with myself (previously not really possible) and actually understand what has been happening to me. I found myself the first time I listened to this practice. I couldn’t stop on day 1 and completed the course in one sitting. I’ve been saying/feeling for years that I feel dead inside, I don’t know who I am, I feel so trapped. I have had a burning desire to “escape” or “hide” or even not exist but no idea why I felt this way. I had almost no boundaries and my true self lived in a state of almost constant violation. Everything the opposite of what a free spirit needs. A lot has culminated to get me here, but today I found my home. I am finally tearing down the prison walls I built for my own self and finding that I have never felt so safe before, because I wasn’t allowing myself to truly live.

Loved this course. The teacher articulates the challenges, insights and opportunities very well and I got so much out of her journal prompts and suggestions. I realized many dynamics from my childhood that still need healing and awareness. 5 star for sure!!
