In this course we will consider the first group of ten cards in the major arcana of the Thoth Tarot deck in turn. Through this study you will gain an understanding of the metaphorical meanings of the various symbols used and how they can be applied in to our daily lives as reflective tools in meditation. These are tools of transformation linked deeply to western mysticism and alchemy.


Meet your Teacher

Nico is a Tokyo based teacher and mental health counselor with many years of experience. In his practices he often uses metaphor and analogies in order to help the mind navigate meaning. The famed Swiss psychotherapist, Carl Jung viewed the Tarot not as a fortune-telling gimmick, but as a symbolic system reflecting the collective unconscious, a mirror for archetypes like the Shadow, Anima/Animus, and Self, useful for individuation and self-exploration.

Lesson 1

The Fool

The Fool (card 0) is the beginning of our explorations and symbolizes, overall, the raw primordial energies before manifestation. In spiritual matters, he represents ideas, thoughts, and spirituality that endeavor to transcend earth.

The Magus, or the Magician, is the second in this series. He represents skill, wisdom and the power to manifest in the material world. He acts as a conduit between the void prior to creation and the physical world that we are in.

The Priestess

The High Priestess is symbolic of the moon and the subconscious working of the mind. Whereas the Magus is about open action and manifestation, the High Priestess is veiled and secretive. She hides her treasures well and requires a different approach.

The Empress

To be honest, the image of the Empress in the Rider Waite deck appeals to me more than here in the Thoth Tarot... however, both have similar meanings of fecundity, love, beauty, happiness. She represents the mother figure in all of us.
