Details

This 11-day meditation retreat is a journey into the heart of Japan’s Zen tradition during the enchanting cherry blossom season. The ambiance is one of serenity, simplicity, and deep cultural immersion, from meditating in centuries-old temples to walking mindfully beneath blooming sakura. We intend to guide participants beyond sightseeing into an authentic, lived experience of Zen and Japanese spiritual life. Through daily Zazen with Zen monks, private temple access, traditional tea ceremonies, and mindful walks through gardens and sacred sites, you will cultivate presence, clarity, and a renewed sense of peace. The retreat’s benefits include enhanced mindfulness, a deeper connection to self and nature, and a richer appreciation of Japanese culture and wabi-sabi aesthetics. You will also experience the restorative power of nature in mountain lodges, soak in mineral-rich onsen baths, and share community in quiet, contemplative settings. Unique features include exclusive temple stays, guidance from experienced teachers with long-standing ties to Japan, visits to iconic spiritual landmarks such as the Golden Pavilion, Fushimi Inari Shrine, Philosopher’s Path, and Zenkoji Temple, and the rare opportunity to witness Japan’s most beautiful season in places far from the tourist crowds.

Schedule

The retreat begins with participants arriving in Osaka, allowing them a day to rest and acclimate before the journey unfolds. The official start in Kyoto includes a visit to the Golden Pavilion and a private Zazen meditation session, grounding participants in Zen mindfulness. The following days in Kyoto involve a walking meditation at Fushimi Inari Shrine and a reflective stroll along the Philosopher’s Path. A day of free exploration in Kyoto offers personal reflection and integration of retreat teachings. The journey continues to Kanazawa, where participants explore Kenroku-en Garden and the historic Higashi Chaya tea district, followed by a morning meditation at Myohoji Temple. In Myoko Kogen, participants enjoy mindful walks by Lake Nojiri and restorative time in a traditional onsen. The retreat then moves to Nagano for an overnight stay at Zenkoji Temple, including a tea ceremony and meditation. A final day in Osaka includes closing reflections led by Celia Roberts, allowing participants to integrate their insights before departing. Throughout the retreat, participants are immersed in Japanese culture and spirituality, fostering a deep connection with nature and Zen practice.

Testimonials

info

“I embarked on my teacher training a little daunted about studying online, not sure what to expect. Celia and her team put me at ease and provided all the materials I needed. They were always there to help and offer advice when I needed it. The space online learning provided me was so valuable, enabling me to deepen my practice and understanding at my own pace. Yoga for me is a practice of going in, connecting with your mind, body, breat,h and spirit so taking this journey with my teacher Celia felt only natural. Now I am upgrading my yoga hours as well as starting the meditation course all the way from England and I am so excited and grateful.”

Holly Harman, Australia

"My experience of yoga with Celia has been great...not only is she an amazing teacher, she intuitively knows what’s needed on an individual level as well as for the group she is working with. Her knowledge & education of the different chakras & how they relate to different parts of the body is a bonus for me! "

Barbara George, Australia

"Thank you, Celia! It was beautiful! A lovely reawakening and reminder for me... just what I needed."
