Hello and welcome little mermaids and mermen.

Shelly Mermaid here.

Go ahead and find a comfy,

Cozy spot to sit.

Are you there already?

Great.

Now,

Before we begin,

Let's get those wiggles out by shaking our arms and legs all over the place.

Wiggle,

Wiggle,

Wiggle,

Wiggle,

Wiggle,

Wiggle.

Good job.

Keep doing it.

Wiggle,

Wiggle,

Wiggle.

Yeah.

Nice.

Alright,

Now that we've got the wiggles out,

We're going to sit in a comfy position.

Let's begin our calm breathing.

It's so much easier now that we don't have those wiggles anymore,

Isn't it?

Close your eyes and take a deep breath in.

And let it out.

Can you breathe in and out through your nose?

Try it.

Breathe in.

And out.

If you can't,

That's okay.

Just as long as you're breathing in and out slowly.

So breathe in.

And out.

Wow.

Good job.

Man,

I already feel so relaxed.

Have you ever been frustrated?

Like,

Maybe you couldn't build a sandcastle as tall as you wanted,

Or maybe you couldn't find your favorite toy.

You know,

That feeling of frustration that you get.

It's okay to feel frustrated sometimes.

It's a normal part of being human.

Even mermaids like me get frustrated.

Let's imagine our frustration as a big,

Swirling wave crashing against the rocks.

Feel the power of the big wave.

But also remember that just like the ocean,

Our emotions can be ever-changing.

We won't stay frustrated forever,

Even though it can be a powerful and tough emotion.

Just knowing that,

I think,

Sometimes helps.

That the feeling's going to pass sometime soon.

But there are things we can do to help.

Do you know a healthy way to deal with that frustrating feeling?

Well,

You can accept it.

Remember,

It's okay to be frustrated.

Some things are just plain frustrating,

Huh?

Now let's practice accepting our frustration.

Instead of fighting against it like a strong current,

Let's imagine ourselves floating on the surface of the water.

Letting the water pass underneath us.

Feel the gentle rise and fall of the ocean beneath you,

Knowing that this moment of frustration will soon go away.

Sometimes just accepting something already makes you feel better.

You think,

Oh my gosh,

I'm so frustrated.

Oh,

That's my emotion right now,

I guess.

Frustration,

Alright.

As we continue to breathe deeply,

Let's use our imaginations to find ways to manage our frustration.

Maybe we can count to ten.

Or we can take slow,

Deep breaths,

Like the rhythm of the waves.

Or maybe we could do both.

Remember,

Just like the ocean finds balance after a storm,

We too can find peace and calmness after experiencing frustration.

It's all about riding the waves and knowing that brighter days are ahead,

Like a surfer.

Surf's up,

Dude!

Let's practice together.

If something is so,

So frustrating and you just want to scream and cry,

Let's take a deep breath in,

Feeling the emotion in our body,

And breathe out,

Accepting that for now we just are going to have to be frustrated.

Take another breath in,

Feel the frustration in your belly and chest,

And breathe out,

Releasing those feelings into the air.

Your breathing is like ocean waves.

That's so calming to your brain,

Did you know that?

Just breathing deeply.

Now let's count.

Breathe slowly,

Keeping your eyes closed.

And try this trick to balance your emotions next time you're feeling very frustrated.

Breathe slowly and count slowly with me.

One.

Two.

Three.

Four.

Five.

As you're counting,

Feel yourself calm.

Six.

Seven.

Eight.

The higher we get with our numbers,

The calmer we feel.

Nine.

And ten.

Well,

Good job.

I think you'll see that by the time you get to ten,

Even though you're still frustrated,

Your mind will be so much more calm and feel so much better.

As we come to the end of our meditation,

Let's take one final deep breath in,

Arms go up in the air,

And sway side to side like seaweed,

Then breathe out.

Drop those arms down to your sides.

Okay,

Good job.

Now let's gently open our eyes,

Feeling refreshed and ready to face whatever challenges may come our way.

Thank you so much for joining me and thinking about ways to handle our frustration together.

I'm so excited that you now have some skills to help you.

Come back again soon,

Okay?

See you next time!

My takeaway: wiggles out, breathe, accept the wave, imagine floating or surfing, count to 10, deep breathe, wave like seaweed . Encouraging . Many adults don't know to manage this so a new generation of kids is gonna be ahead of the curve in coping. 🦜 Thanks [KEY: 5=Insightful, 4=Interesting, 3=Okay, 2=Not For Me, 1=Irritating]
