In this meditation, I'm going to teach you a powerful method to challenge your worrying thoughts. We'll begin by grounding the body and then move into a beautiful affirmation practice. You may rarely consider the positive 'what ifs', i.e. all the things that could go right, and forever focus on what could go wrong. Let's challenge those anxious thoughts together.

So coming into this space with me,

If you're just in need of a little break in those worrying thoughts and if you need a little bit of inspiration as to what could go right instead of focusing on what could go wrong,

And know that it's okay if you worry.

There are so many things and reasons in really the world that we're living in that could create worry,

Whether that be worry about our personal lives,

About our finances,

About our relationships,

About the world at large.

There are a lot of things we could worry about,

Right?

So it's normal to have those worries come in and out,

But I really want to help to remind you that it's that belief system we create around them that is the biggest thing we want to watch and we want to just see if we can really stop worry before it travels in the direction we don't want it to travel in.

So what we're going to try out today is we're going to try out a method where we actually allow ourselves to entertain or ponder on the positive what-ifs rather than just the negative what-ifs.

If you have a tendency to worry you'll know that a lot of sentences you might think of in your own mind will start with what if,

What if this goes wrong,

What if that goes wrong,

What if this thing doesn't work out,

And it almost becomes a reference point,

You know,

The negative what-ifs and I want to see if I can help you to move into today even just playing around with what it feels like to sit with the positive what-ifs.

So as we move into this practice let's just start by firstly really grounding ourselves and we're going to do that through body awareness and through the breath.

Let yourself find a comfortable position and when you've found that position I want you to just really notice how your body feels and notice all those points where your body meets,

Whatever it is you're sitting in,

You're laying in,

Any blankets on you,

Clothing on your skin,

Just sort of feel into the space on that very sensory feeling level.

Notice if you can without judgment how your body is feeling and really just tune into those points where the body meets any other surface,

So the point where maybe your feet touch the floor or your shoulders meets a cushion or a pillow and just feel into that,

Not needing to do anything with it,

But just really becoming aware of the physical body.

Let's see if you can consciously drop the shoulders away from the ears and allow the shoulders to soften and then just begin to allow the breath to move in a lovely gentle pace and just see if you can take a few deep nourishing breaths here.

You might like to just see if you can make your exhale longer than your inhale,

This tends to really help soothe the body,

So you're taking your time to breathe in,

Perhaps through your nose,

And then you're just elongating that exhale,

Really grounding the body.

Do this a few more times until you can feel in your body that the breath is slowing down in a grounded way,

Until you can feel your muscles just slowly starting to soften.

I want you to really build trust in yourself here as you do this,

That you can do this,

You can use your breath to ground,

To regulate,

That you can really actually quite quickly totally change the tempo of how your body feels and how empowering that feels to do this.

So keep breathing,

Keep grounding,

Keep relaxing and see if you can just absorb the words that I'm saying,

The affirmations I'm offering and see how it feels on your body as I say them.

I wonder what if the worries you're holding today,

You were to learn that you didn't actually need to have them,

Whatever's been going around in your mind,

Whatever worries are there,

I wonder what if you learned that they're actually just going to work themselves out and that you were going to use so much wasted energy worrying about whatever it is you've been worrying about today,

What would that feel like to learn you were almost wasting energy because it was going to figure itself out?

What if no amount of worrying and torturing yourself with thoughts actually has any impact on the outcome anyway?

What if things work out better than you imagine?

What if you're limiting yourself with how you think things could go and that actually there's another path or perhaps multiple paths where things could work out better than you actually imagine?

What if there's a solution to the thing or things that you're worrying about that right now you're not considering or right now you may not even be able to know but that it exists,

What if that solution is just around the corner,

It's going to come,

It's going to pretend itself,

It's going to get figured out and again you're wasting all your energy right now worrying simply because you don't yet have the solution?

What if things work out at the exact right timing for the exact divine reason and the exact path that it's supposed to work out on and that you right now are just working so hard to try and control that instead of trusting?

Keep taking slow deep breaths and just notice if any resistance comes up,

It's okay if there is,

Notice if any of these do feel particularly good and soak that in.

What if things work out better than I'm thinking?

What if things have a way of working themselves out as they sort of always have?

What if I'm not considering all the things that could go right?

What if there is unseen help along the way that I'm not even considering?

What if I'm not supposed to know right now?

What if the future and my life is just supposed to unfold in exactly the way it needs to?

What if I don't have all the answers right now for a reason and that that reason is because things are supposed to unfold in a certain way,

A certain order,

That the future is not something I need nor should I see and that instead of considering all that could go wrong,

I can consider all that could work out?

Be with this for as long as you need to,

Continuing to breathe and continuing to fill your body up with all of the positive what-ifs.

When you're ready,

I want you to just start to become aware again of your wonderful body laying or sitting where you are and again,

Feeling those points where you feel your clothes or the chair or the bed that you're sitting or laying on.

Just notice if the body feels more relaxed than maybe it did a few minutes ago.

Notice if your mind feels a little more settled.

And when you're ready,

I want you to just start to blink your eyes open.

You're going to come back to the space slowly,

That you're in and I hope you can take away with you so many of those positive what-ifs today.

Thanks Scarlett. Good to be reminded that things usually work themselves out irrespective of my worrying. In fact my worrying gets in the way by creating stress in the body and mind
