Piano Music being a light in the world.
This is an invitation to engage imaginatively with being a light in the world.
Listeners from traditions with prayer or who are open to trying prayer may wish to use it in that way.
Take whatever time you need to settle into a quiet place where you feel a measure of connection with your heart and mind.
You may want to use a relaxation exercise,
A mindfulness practice or prayer to assist you in this process.
Become aware of your breath.
Follow it for a time in and out.
Allow your attention to rest on your breath.
Gently and gently rest on your breath.
And repeatedly return to your attention on your breath.
Some people find it helps to focus on the sensation of breathing in one place,
Perhaps the nose,
Shoulders,
Chest or abdomen.
When you become distracted and aware of thoughts,
Ever so briefly note the content and then gently return to your focus on the sensations of breath in this part of your body.
With your eyes closed,
In your mind's eye,
See yourself seated in your chair.
See yourself slowly lit up from within.
You may wish to pray for more of this light.
You may wish to repeat to yourself silently the words of Jesus,
You are the light of the world.
You are the light of the world.
See this light growing in you.
See this light touching every aspect of you,
Your thoughts,
Feelings and actions.
And touching all the different relationships of your life.
Bring the relationships of your life to mind slowly,
One after the other.
Seeing yourself moving and acting as light in those situations.
If you find yourself distracted,
Take a moment to turn to that image of yourself,
Lit up from within and then return to the visualisation,
Slowly visiting each aspect of your life.
If you have not done so already,
Now turn your focus to the areas of your life,
Personal,
Personal and beyond that concern you.
Those places other people consider normal but that concern you.
See yourself moving into and acting in those situations as light.
See this light touching every aspect of your life,
Your thoughts,
Feelings and actions.
Take the time that you need.
Do not rush away from this exercise.
If you find ideas or prompts to action arise,
And they will,
Simply note these and return to the exercise,
Allowing your imagination to work to the full.
When the time you have allocated is over,
Allow a moment to return to a sense of yourself in a particular house,
Room and chair.
Take some time to notice your responses.
You may wish to journal about this experience or to discuss it with a friend.
