It is said,

In the beginning was the word,

Is the story of creation from a Christian perspective.

Yet we also see sound in creation through various other creation stories from around the world.

Words have power and many creation myths begin with a God or a creator speaking or singing the universe into being.

In all creation stories across various religions,

The beginning starts with a sound that shatters nothingness.

In Christianity,

Jesus is the total message,

Everything that God wants to communicate to man.

But here are a few other examples of how creation begins through sound.

Australian Aboriginals speak of song lines,

The song paths that were sung by ancestor spirits who walked across their landscape,

Singing the landforms into being.

These song lines were as short as a mile or two or some extend hundreds of miles.

For the Aboriginals,

Those songs were ongoing and need to keep being sung to maintain them.

When they go on a walkabout,

They re-sing and re-establish creation,

Creating the world all over again.

They also believe they visit the moment of creation by singing the songs and following the song line.

When they can't do so for any reason,

They believe the world is thrown out of balance.

Their beliefs are rooted in a deep respect for the land.

Then there is the creation story of the Mayan people who lived long ago in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.

As with many creation myths,

The belief was that in the beginning there was nothingness,

The world was only sky and sea,

And the gods residing there,

Different gods resided in either the sky or sea,

Realized there was a potential of the nothingness,

A God from each area came together to create the world and bring in great thinkers they filled the emptiness with words.

Whatever they said they created,

Hence why language is so important if you believe this is possible.

To these Mayans,

Things arise from being spoken of instead of the belief that first an object exists and then is named.

The word is very powerful and gave humans life,

According to the Mayan tradition.

The Vedas,

The sacred Hindu texts,

Say that in the beginning was Brahman,

With who was the word and the word is Brahman.

Brahman is supreme existence or the creator.

The Hindu belief being that creation arises from the first sound of the universe,

The primordial sound of Aum.

We talk about Aum in a minute in another part of this series.

Again,

Here in the Hindu tradition the sound shatters nothingness and awakens Vishnu,

Another god in the Hindu religion.

Awakening Vishnu actually ended night and created dawn.

Some Egyptian creation stories say that the god Thoth,

The Egyptian god of writing,

Magic,

Wisdom and the moon,

Created himself with the power of language and then went on to create all of creation.

In Norse mythology,

Ymir is a giant and the first creature to come into being.

Formed wind,

Fire and ice collided in the nothingness.

Ymir translates to screaming,

So again potentially another creation point related to sound.

Ymir went on to conceive several other giants in Ymir's body.

These are just a few examples that are actually more of sound's potential role in creation.

Every word we speak produces a vibration,

So it could be said that intelligent thought produces intelligent vibration and we'll speak more about this in another part of the series.

The word or sound is the beginning and source of all creation.

Electronic vibration combined with cosmic intelligence.
