Based on the teachings of Adyashanti, this practice can be used alone or as a companion to his writings on "the direct way" of awakening. It invites you to drop your attention from your mind to your heart, to experience yourself as aware presence, and to notice that same aware presence in all sentient beings, including everyone you meet today. This can be perceived through the simple act of eye contact. I hope you enjoy.

Transcript

Begin by relaxing into your seat,

Relaxing your body,

Relaxing your focus of attention.

Let your attention drop from the mind to the aware space around the mind,

Opening your awareness wide like the sky.

Feel the open,

Quiet space,

Your own being.

Notice that this depth of being awareness is silent,

Wordless presence.

It's the same aware presence as that of all sentient beings.

If your eyes are closed,

You can open them for a moment and notice that aware presence is looking out through those eyes.

And when you close your eyes again,

That's the aware presence looking within.

And so when you tune into this,

You may notice that same aware presence in the eyes of everyone you meet today,

Behind who you think they are,

Behind who they think you are,

Behind all that.

The content of both your minds behind that is simple,

Aware presence,

Looking out through your eyes,

Hearing through your ears.

So as you meet people today,

See if you intuit that it's the same aware presence looking back at you through their eyes.

Just play with it.

See what you notice.

See what you feel.

The more open someone is,

The more transparent their eyes are,

And the easier it might be to sense,

The more constricted they are.

It might be more challenging,

But it's there.

So see if you sense it in other people or even in one other person,

Or also through the eyes of animals,

The same sentience touching into the universal I am-ness of all beings.

You don't need to believe anything in this practice,

Simply open to your actual experience.

See what you notice and enjoy.

Be well,

My friend.
