As part of an ongoing series of enlightenment practices, this meditation, inspired by Adyashanti, invites you to let your human heart be soaked in the presence of your spiritual heart, allowing it to restore and reorient your whole being to completeness and wholeness. It can be used alone or as a companion to Adyashanti's "Direct Way" teachings. I hope you enjoy it. Audio by Eric Fischer.

Welcome friends,

Today's mini practice is on resting in the spiritual heart.

We have in us these human hearts that sometimes open and sometimes close,

But they are nestled within the spiritual heart,

Which is boundless.

Boundless as the sky,

Ever-present,

And the spiritual heart does not close or open,

It is ever-present,

Like awareness,

Ever-expansive,

Like the sky.

When we're not attentive to the spiritual heart's presence,

We can become unconscious of it,

And we might imagine that it doesn't exist or that it has closed.

But when we offer our attention and devotion to the spiritual heart,

We become conscious of its presence within,

And we find that it has never been lost.

Even as the human heart can be fearful and open and close,

The spiritual heart is ever-present,

Ever-steady,

Like the love of the cosmos itself.

The human heart can be fickle,

It can open and close,

It can love and hate,

Trust or fear.

If the human heart is not grounded in the vast spiritual heart,

It can feel like an orphan,

Like a child without its mother.

Yet the human heart is never really separate from the spiritual heart.

In this practice,

We turn our attention to the spiritual heart,

To the heart of being,

And we invite our human heart to surrender to it.

So invite yourself to listen and feel into the silence and presence around your heart area,

Letting awareness descend from the area of your mind,

From your head,

Down into your chest,

Down into your heart area.

And if attention rises again and returns to the head,

To thinking,

Simply use the out-breath and exhalation to gently descend back down into the heart.

Feel how when you rest awareness in the heart center,

It takes on a subtle presence of aliveness,

A radiance,

Not as a strong emotion,

But as a subtle glow of heart presence.

Notice that your dear human heart,

With all of its aches and joys,

Is surrounded by this spiritual heart,

This sacred heart,

The heart of awareness.

And choosing to let this spiritual heart's loving presence pervade,

Soak through the human heart,

The heart of dancing emotions,

Letting this spiritual heart's strength be received into your entire being,

A spiritual heart that is all-forgiving,

All-mercy,

Loving,

Redemptive,

Allowing this spiritual heart to restore and reorient your whole being to completeness,

To wholeness,

Surrendering your human heart to the sacred heart and resting there,

Nothing to fix,

Nothing to do,

Nothing to accomplish,

Simply resting in the loving,

Redemptive,

Healing energy of the spiritual heart.

Doing this simple practice over time will evoke your spiritual heart into awareness,

And your human heart will fall into the arms of the spiritual heart,

The heart of universal love,

Forgiveness,

Compassion,

And you will begin to see through those eyes,

The eyes of the sacred heart,

Experiencing nothing but spirit,

The divine,

Wherever you look,

Whatever you hear or taste or feel,

Your own spiritual heart will be a redeeming presence for all of it.

Rest here,

My friend.

Be well.

Meet your Teacher
