Transcript
Hey,
It's Doug.
Welcome to this chakra meditation.
To start with,
Get yourself in a nice comfortable seat.
Sit up tall.
That's particularly important today as we are looking for balance and alignment and that goes for the physical as well as the metaphysical world.
It goes without saying that straightening your spine is a lot easier than straightening your life.
So let's start with the easy stuff,
Shall we?
Let the crown of your head be lifted up towards the sky.
Whenever I do this,
I like to imagine one of those claw arcade machines that picks up toys.
You know,
The ones you never win on.
Well,
Imagine you're the toy in the glass cage and that claw is gently grabbing your skull and lifting you up.
Now keep that length and just imagine all of your weight is being pulled down at the same time.
It's like there's a magnet in your tailbone and the opposing magnet is in the core of the earth.
So we get this lovely combination of that claw picking up your skull,
Nice long neck and with that same height through your skull and through the crown of your head,
You're getting pulled down by your seat and that is stretching your spine to the longest it's ever been.
See if you can feel that for me right now.
Okay,
Great.
So that's the physical,
Let's talk metaphysical.
Chakras are a really interesting concept.
Sometimes they scare people off yoga,
But they don't need to.
They can be a very useful framework to imagine our world and reflect on how we are doing in our lives.
So that's what we're going to do in this meditation.
We're going to attempt to align each of those chakras and get us in line with the world around us.
See chakras are translated as wheels.
So imagine there are these multitude of wheels spinning at differing speeds and with differing levels of stability.
They all have a specific location and a color and a word and a meaning.
What we're aiming to do is get all of these different spinning wheels to spin stably and spin in unison.
The best description I can come up with is,
It's like a shopping cart.
You know,
There's always that one trolley that has a wheel that is rattling all over the place.
It doesn't spin with the other wheels.
It rattles.
It's loud.
It's annoying.
And it keeps taking you off course.
You don't want that.
So what you would do in this situation is check each one of the wheels and make sure that they were running smoothly and in unison.
This is exactly what we're going to do with our chakras now.
For each chakra I'm going to introduce you to the location,
The color,
What they represent and then the sound that goes with it.
Each time I do this,
This is an opportunity to reflect on your life in these different dimensions and it's really handy to do.
So let's get started.
Just breathing out nice and evenly.
Nice and calmly.
I want you to breathe your awareness to the first chakra,
The root chakra.
It's located in your pelvic floor,
What's often called your perineum.
And just for now,
I just want you to connect with the physical aspect of this area.
Notice how it feels and just bring your mind's eye to this area.
The root chakra is represented by the color red.
So see if you can visualize that color here now,
This lovely red color.
Now you're connected to the area and the color.
Let's talk about what this area represents.
What does this chakra mean?
This chakra is all about your position in life.
How grounded you feel.
So I want you to reflect on whether you feel a security in your identity.
I want you to reflect on if you feel secure in your resources,
The things you have.
Do you feel like you have enough?
Reflect on your finances,
Your home,
Your health.
Are these things in a good place?
Are they grounded?
Are they solid?
Or do you feel like they are scattered?
Maybe they're not in the place you think they should be.
If that is the case,
Then you may well feel under threat.
I want you to take three deep breaths here,
Breathing directly into the root chakra.
Contemplate the ways in which you do or do not feel grounded and secure in the life that you have and who you are.
Use those breaths to remind you of what you really need and who you really are.
Do those breaths for me now.
Great work.
As we finish up with this root chakra,
We say the word that is attached to the area.
That is L-U-M,
LUM.
You can think it or say it out loud,
LUM.
As we do,
We bring the root chakra to a close.
Bring your attention now to a few centimeters below your belly button.
This is our new location.
This is your sacral chakra.
The color here is orange.
Connect with the area.
Connect with that color.
Visualize this bright orange just below your belly button.
Feel that in the physical realm.
Start to reflect on how this chakra is all about pleasure,
Sensuality,
Connection.
This is all about how free we feel to feel good,
How much allowance we give to ourselves to enjoy life and enjoy the fruits of life.
It's how free we are to create,
To do new things without fear,
To indulge in the union of ideas and how we can accept others in order to feel good.
Begin to reflect on how free you have been feeling to feel pleasure,
How capable you have been to generate new and interesting ideas,
How free you feel to present your body,
Your mind,
Your ideas,
How free you feel to share it with the world.
Or maybe you don't.
Maybe you feel ashamed of your body,
Your mind,
Your ideas.
Maybe you don't feel like you deserve to feel pleasure and as such you punish yourself with more and more work.
You take more and more on.
You think of others but you never think of yourself,
Stifling your creativity,
Stifling your intimacy,
Stifling your freedom to share your body and mind with the world.
For three breaths,
Connect with this area,
Connect with this light,
This orange color and reflect on your pleasure and your freedom.
As we finish in this sacral chakra,
We use the word attached,
V-U-M,
VUM.
Think it or say it out loud,
VUM.
We bring the sacral chakra to a close,
Moving your awareness now to your solar plexus,
Right where the ribs meet at the front,
Just below the chest bone.
The color now is yellow and this area is all about your will,
Your confidence.
Can you connect now with that color,
That location and your inner will,
Your inner confidence?
This area represents how in control you feel of your life,
How much agency you have.
How much do you believe that you can make a change to yourself and to the world?
How well do you take responsibility for your actions?
Are you a participant in life or just a victim?
Do you recognize your capacity to do great things or does the world just happen to you?
For the next three breaths,
Take note of the power you have within you,
Remind yourself that you have it within you and with each breath,
Let that power,
Let that agency,
Let that fearlessness rise up,
Getting this chakra to spin,
Getting this chakra to empower you.
Do that for me now.
To close this chakra,
We think the word RUM,
RUM.
Say it or think it out loud.
Your next breath goes into your heart chakra,
Located in the center of the chest.
The color is green and this corresponds with our relationship to the world and others.
It's no secret that how we judge ourselves is often how we judge others.
As you connect with your heart center right in that middle of your chest,
Honestly reflect on how you treat yourself.
If you were an outsider looking at you and noticed how you spoke to you,
How you treated you,
How you fed you and how you exercised you,
What would they say?
Reflect now on how you treat your family and your friends.
Are you generous with your time and your emotions or are you busy,
Distracted?
Take some breaths now to reflect honestly on how open your heart is and if your relationships with yourself and others may need more nurturing.
As we close the heart chakra,
The word is YUM,
YUM.
Think or say this out loud now.
Bring your mind now to your throat,
Right in the center.
The color is blue.
Imagine this color and location now as you.
But reflect on how expressive you are,
How capable you are at saying what needs to be said even when it's uncomfortable.
Are you someone who shies away from saying the right thing?
But also reflect on how capable you are at keeping silent when the need arises.
How good are you at expressing yourself authentically?
In the words that you say or the words that you do not?
Do you hide yourself from others for fear of judgment?
Do you try blend into the crowd or do you speak without too much thought when more thought than speaking is needed?
Breathe the next few breaths directly into this throat chakra as you do commit to being more authentic and trusting of your expression,
Knowing when to speak and knowing when to listen.
We close this chakra with the word HUM,
HUM.
Say it or think it.
Place your attention now to the area just between the eyes.
This is your third eye,
Represented by the color indigo.
This is our capacity to rationalize,
To see things as they are,
To use that cognitive power to reason.
This is the superpower of humans,
The ability to think clearly without emotion,
To deconstruct things,
To use deduction and reduction,
Allowing us to plan,
To use language,
To assess.
Use the next few breaths to reflect on how clearly you have been thinking lately or how often your thoughts and your plans have been muddied by ego,
By fear or desire.
We close this third eye chakra now with the word OM,
OM.
Think or say it out loud.
We finish now our last chakra.
It is the color purple and it sits on top of our head.
It is,
Quite literally,
Our crown.
This is our crown chakra.
It is connected with the element of light.
This is your connection to everything transcendental.
Connect with that color purple.
Feel it sitting on the crown of your head.
Feel as if a light is beaming from the top of your head into the universe.
This is your capacity to be free,
Free from the physical bounds of your body,
To join the world,
To join the realms of the metaphysical.
No more barriers between you and the world around you.
You can make union with the sky,
The trees,
The animals,
The stars and all the spirits that are and have been and will be.
This is your gateway to the shared consciousness,
Where you are one with everything and everything is one with you.
No more ego,
No more identity,
Just connection.
As you breathe,
Think about your crown chakra,
Reflect on how connected you feel to the universe.
How close do you feel to the highest being that is you and that is everything?
Is it easy for your soul to dance and feel like it's part of the cosmos or are you grounded in isolation by your own worries and self?
Can you use the next few breaths to stoke the fire that is this crown chakra,
To increase the light that is emanated from it,
To allow you to open up this crown chakra,
To ascend to who you could be?
Use each breath to stoke that fire now.
Sit up nice and tall and connect to each one of these areas one more time,
Coming from top down.
Feel your crown,
Honor it.
Feel your third eye,
Honor it.
Feel your heart,
Honor it.
Feel the solar plexus,
Honor it.
Feel the sacral chakra and honor it.
And now finish with the root chakra and honor it.
Feel them all work together now and help you stay on course to fulfill the beautiful potential that you inhabit.
Feel the synergy and the power that comes from all of these chakras working together.
Find yourself in alignment with your purpose and now when you're ready,
Open your eyes and take this power and inspire others.
Namaste.
