Welcome back to Resilient Energy.
I'm Rochelle and today we're diving deeper into Adrenal Exhaustion by talking about the signs,
Stages and triggers.
The signs of Adrenal Exhaustion can often be mistaken for just being tired but there's a distinct pattern.
You're tired upon waking regardless of how long you sleep.
You feel more alert in the evening even if you struggled all day.
You rely on stimulants like caffeine,
Sugar or naps to get you through the day and you experience mood swings,
Anxiety or emotional numbness.
These aren't random symptoms,
They're messages from the body.
Holistic practitioners often describe Adrenal Dysfunction in three stages.
The alarm phase where you see high cortisol,
You feel jittery,
Anxious and can't relax and your sleep suffers.
The second phase is the resistance phase where the cortisol output starts to decline and you feel chronically tired but you push through.
And third is the exhaustion phase where your cortisol is completely flatlined and even minor tasks feel impossible and your motivation and drive completely crash.
So understanding your phase helps determine what kind of support that you need.
So what is it that pushes the adrenals into dysfunction?
Chronic stress,
Work,
Caregiving,
Trauma,
Perfectionism,
All things that many of us have to do in our daily lives.
Poor sleep hygiene,
Blood sugar instability and this is something that a lot of people are not aware about that they may be doing with their diets.
Excess caffeine or stimulants which also has a knock-on effect on blood sugar instability and emotional stress and unresolved trauma which keeps itself in the body for many many years.
And it's rarely just one thing,
It's often what we call death by a thousand paper cuts.
So if any of this sounds familiar,
The first step is not to panic or shame,
It's always compassion with yourself.
Your body has been working hard to protect you and to keep you going but now it's time to protect it back.
So next time we'll talk about how to nourish the nervous system with food.
Thank you for tuning in.
