You’re not afraid of life. You’re afraid of the truth. Tiger points to the core of fear as fear of the unknown, and shows how quickly we try to make life “about me” through projection, control, and taking things personally. The invitation is radical and simple: stop demanding certainty, stop fighting reality, and meet what’s actually true.

We fear so much the truth of life because in that truth is going to be a great call.

A great call of responsibility.

A great surrendering of the life you think you're living and what you think you want.

And you see that your life is meant to be in service to what is real and true.

Which throws you into a vast unknown and strips you from your imaginary certainty of where you think your life is headed.

And you see this proverbial fear of God is simply a fear of the truth.

And you can see this obviously when you investigate our fear and see how much of it is wrapped around a fear of the unknown.

But yet the unknown is what is true.

And so to fear the unknown is to fear God in a manner of speaking.

It's to fear what is true.

Furthermore it's also to say that underneath all fear is a fear of God.

We just tell different stories about it like I'm afraid of the unknown.

Or I'm afraid of what other people think about me.

I'm afraid of this not working out.

These are all just little stories we tell about our fear.

Really what we're afraid of is the truth.

And to see that more clearly invites you to look deeply at the truth.

See that the truth is the truth and also see that you don't need to be afraid of the truth.

In the way that you don't need to be afraid of the unknown because it has always been the unknown and it will always be the unknown.

This is just the way of things.

Furthermore according to the design of things it's important that the unknown is the unknown.

So there is this sort of great allowing for the truth to be the truth.

Which is kind of like seeing the design of life or kind of like seeing the hand of God in everything.

In realizing that it's all okay.

It's kind of like,

And this might be fun to explore,

So much of our human dilemma is wrapped around taking things personally.

Which is a fear that it's about you.

Which on the other side of that coin is a fear that wants it to be about you.

And in many ways it's like there's a fear that it's not really about you.

Which is the truth of life.

And in this fear of it not being about us,

The truth,

We try so hard to make it about us.

Which is our determination to take things personally.

You see how that works?

And my goodness for me to see that the only thing I fear is to fear the truth.

To fear God.

Silly words.

Invites me into such a profound intimacy that lets go of the whole world.

Because I see that my fears aren't really about the world.

Makes it very difficult to project my fears onto other people.

And invites me into a radical honesty about what's actually happening here.

Because if I'm not aware of it,

Then that fear sort of inspires a rebellion that fights against life.

That lives in opposition to life.

Trying to make life how I want it to be.

Which also looks like demanding that other people be different.

Which is the same as demanding that other people worship me.

I don't know if you noticed but that doesn't work out so well.

I love this invitation to just get radically honest about the real issue.

Because we go through so many common experiences as human beings.

And we are so quick to believe the surface level assumptions about our pain.

And we think we have it all figured out.

Right?

Like say for example you go through a relationship breakup.

And you feel the intensity of that pain.

And you're so convinced in your story that somebody else gave you this pain.

And you see in that sort of conviction there is a violence that is inspired.

That sees the other person as less than.

As undeserving of love.

As in your way.

They didn't do what you wanted.

And you find this pain becomes more and more amplified.

But yet when we get deeply in touch with that pain,

There's a doorway to see that it's not about the other person at all.

And this pain,

The reality of the pain,

Is actually a very deep invitation to get intimate with what is real and true.

The sincerity of what's going on inside of you.

Which you know if you unravel that pain in some way you see that I'm afraid I'm not enough.

I'm afraid I'm unlovable.

It's not really about the other person at all.

In fact in many ways in relationships we use the other person to hide from this deep truth inside of us that we are so terrified of.

We have a deep feeling of inadequacy or a deep feeling that we are unworthy and another person comes in our lives and we say oh this other person makes me feel worthy now.

This other person makes me feel loved.

So you feel like you have captured the prize in another person and now you become terrified of losing that person because if they move you might have to face that pain again.

And this presents a whole host of issues that ultimately don't allow you to be yourself.

That don't allow you to be honest because you might lose them.

And so we put ourselves in some sort of prison cell that says okay if I'm gonna keep hiding behind this other person I have to be exactly what I think they want me to be.

Which means I can't breathe.

And that pain when it all comes tumbling down is really a beautiful invitation to finally let yourself breathe.
