Love and respect to Louise Hay for the inspiration for this practice. We use a physical and mental relaxation technique to come into the meditative, alpha state. Once feeling quieter, we identify a fear, a belief that feels uncomfortable and comes up for us repeatedly. For example, I never have enough _____. We turn that upside down to create our affirmation and start to build new pathways in the mind to create a new belief. Your beliefs are yours to change! Photo by CHIRAG K on Unsplash

Let's find a comfortable place.

Arms and legs somewhere at ease,

Joints at ease.

Take a few deeper breaths and expand your spine as you get a little bit taller.

And exhaling we'll get a little more relaxed.

A bit of both.

And we'll take a few deeper breaths as we take our attention inwards.

And notice how it feels to stop.

So that may have good aspects to it and it may have difficult aspects to it.

And we'll allow it all to be just as it is.

So let's allow the muscles of our face to soften.

Our forehead,

Our temples,

Our eyes,

Our jaw becoming softer and more relaxed.

And our whole body automatically starts to follow suit when we do that consciously.

Our scalp and our neck softening.

Our shoulders relaxing away from our ears.

And as we soften the muscles lengthen and our spine,

Our skeleton falls into a more neutral position as the muscles and tendons relax.

Let's imagine that happening.

Let's let our arms and hands be relaxed.

Let's see if we can relax our back a little so that that becomes a more neutral comfortable position.

And then our chest and our belly,

Our hips,

Our pelvic bowl,

Buttocks and thighs softening,

Relaxing.

Knees,

Shins and calves,

Ankles,

Top of the feet,

Beneath,

Soles of the feet and the toes.

Whole body more relaxed.

And then the mind.

Let's see if we can relax our mental state a little so we'll find a memory or imagine some place in which we are completely comfortable,

Completely at ease.

Where it is,

It's not important.

It may not even be real or not something we've experienced,

But let's go there in our imagination and enjoy it.

Feeling whatever we feel when we're there.

Seeing what there is to see.

There may be physical sensations,

Scents.

Finding that happy place has helped us relax our mind a little to be comfortable.

We're going to take 10 long,

Smooth,

Comfortable breaths.

And with each breath,

We breathe in the energy,

Universal energy,

The prana.

Nine.

Connect with that wider perspective around us.

Eight.

Connect with the earth.

Seven.

From the sky.

Six.

With the border perspective of our lives.

Five.

Know there is so much energy available to us when we connect.

Three.

When we're in this connected alpha state,

We cannot possibly be depleted.

So resting for a moment in our breath and our body as part of the universe.

Knowing we're built of the same stuff.

One energy,

One consciousness.

One.

But we know it isn't always like this.

Sometimes we are stressed and happy.

All kinds of unhappy,

Fearful,

Emotional states.

At its root it is fear of all kinds of different things.

And we may decide we no longer wish to experience that.

And we may choose to do that in the moment that we experience a fearful thought.

We can ask the universe to guide us into doing it differently.

Take that breath and choose to relax.

And we can also do that with our belief framework.

And that's what we're going to think about now.

Our beliefs,

The framework of our life.

Our beliefs work as a framework because we run on rails of our beliefs.

In a certain situation I do this.

It's not conscious.

We just do it.

We react.

We act the same.

But let's also acknowledge that it's different for other people.

They may have different beliefs and therefore act differently.

And that we,

When we feel good and energized,

May react in a different,

More positive way than if we're tired and depleted.

So let's know that these beliefs are malleable.

They're not set in stone,

Written on a stone tablet somewhere.

We can influence them and change them.

What's another word for belief?

Truth.

Let's know our truths are ours,

Only ours.

And we can change them as we wish to suit us,

To work for us,

To help us build a life we enjoy.

So I invite you now to think of a fear,

A difficulty.

We'll try and put it into a sentence and I'll give you an example or two to help you frame it.

I fear lack of money.

There is not enough energy in the day to do everything I need to do.

I have fears for other people.

So let's identify something that stresses us a lot or frequently.

We're going to turn it upside down.

So that might be,

I live in abundance,

Trust and gratitude.

And I create prosperity.

I'm building a healthier body.

I choose the actions that are important for me to do today.

I allow others to live their lives,

To walk their path and I assist them where I can.

Let's make our affirmation positive in the present moment.

And this may change as it develops,

But it becomes our mantra now.

So we're going to sit with our breath and our mantra.

If we wish to make it a new belief,

It needs to become a well-worn path in our mind.

So let's familiarize ourselves.

If you're still not sure,

A good general one is,

All is well.

Everything is working out for my highest good.

Out of this experience,

Only good will come.

All is well.

Everything is working out for my highest good.

Out of this experience,

Only good will come.

Let's experience our mantra for a few moments silently.

So having familiarized ourselves with these new words,

Let's say it again and feel how it feels to experience it.

What I want you to look for is the sense that this is not yet true.

Some doubt,

Feeling that this is not my life at all.

If that's there,

It's okay.

And then let's try it again and imagine if it were true,

How wonderful your life would be if it were true for you,

If it were your belief and the shape your life would take if it were true.

And that is how we use our mantra.

So let's sit with our mantra again,

With our affirmation,

With the joy that it is and may be and can be our truth.

We'll stay with the mantra,

The affirmation for a few more breaths.

If you wish,

Take a moment to write down your affirmation.

If you want it to become that new belief,

That new foundation for your life,

You're going to have to revisit it often so that it overwrites the old belief in your mind.

Create a new neural pathway,

Like a new pathway in the woods.

We need to walk it a lot to clear it and make it strong.

So that might be several times a day.

And in emergencies,

You can repeat the affirmation until we become a little calmer.

And that will give a moment for the universe to step in and help us.

And so we will prepare for movement and to return back to our waking state,

Our beta brainwaves.

We'll gradually take a few deeper breaths and start to move and stretch.

Moving the fingers and toes,

Wrists and ankles,

Arms and legs,

Stretching our body,

However feels good for us.

Take your affirmation with you,

Stick it on a poster in your pocket,

Make it part of your life.

Thank you for practicing with me.
