Welcome to the official podcast of the Grammy-nominated record label Metta Mindfulness Music,
Where we discuss how the ancient wisdom and neuroscience of our sound healing music can improve your health,
Well-being,
And transform your life into an inspired,
Positive experience.
I'm your host,
Pete Serdan,
And this week,
We'll be continuing our series discussing our album,
Six Healing Sounds,
Based on the traditional East Asian medicine practices of qi gong.
The second healing sound or element of qi gong we'll be discussing is the water element.
You are currently listening to our music track titled Water,
From the Six Healing Sounds album by Yuval Ron,
Which was composed in the key of A,
Utilizing the same tonal assignment as the healing sound of water from ancient East Asian wisdom traditions.
Activating the water element is tied to the health of the kidneys,
Reducing symptoms of anxiety and chronic stress.
Now,
We will listen to an excerpt from Day 2 of our 10-day meditation course,
The Six Healing Sounds of Qi Gong,
Narrated by the president and executive producer of Metta Mindfulness Music,
Dr.
Richard Gold,
Where he introduces the concept of the water element and its positive impact on the kidneys,
Followed by a demonstration of breathing and stretching exercises you can practice to support your kidney health,
Boost courage,
And manage symptoms of anxiety.
According to the five-element theory,
The metal element is the mother of water,
Meaning that water receives energy and nourishment from metal,
Specifically that the lung energy nourishes the kidneys,
The primary organ associated with the water element.
The kidneys store the vital essence,
Known as jing,
And also directly influence birth,
Development,
And maturation.
The jing is the source of life and its unfolding.
The kidneys are the root of life and provide the essence of life to all the other organs of our bodies.
The water element corresponds with the qi of A.
We will vocalize the healing sound of qi,
Produced with a long,
Slow exhalation,
With the lips rounded,
Forming an O shape with the mouth,
With the intent as if we are blowing out a candle.
The energy pathway of the kidneys runs from the bottom of the feet,
Up the inside of the legs,
Through the abdominal region,
And terminates just below the collarbone on the sides of the sternum.
The kidneys correspond to the winter season and the color black.
The taste that energizes the kidneys is salty.
The energy of the kidneys is at the maximum from 5 to 7 p.
M.
The positive emotions associated with the kidneys are courage,
Grace,
Stillness,
And resoluteness.
As we strengthen the kidneys,
We let go of fear,
Anxiety,
And stress.
We will begin our Qigong exercises either sitting comfortably or standing.
Gently place your palms on your low back.
Bring your attention to the sounds of the music as you follow your breath in and out.
Get a sense of the breath moving deeply into your body so that you can feel the rising and falling into your palms as they remain on your low back area.
After a series of breaths,
Release your hands from your low back and allow your arms to come to your sides.
Bring your knees and ankles close together,
Even gently touching if this is comfortable for you.
Take a deep,
Focused inhalation,
Bend forward,
Clasp your hands together by interlocking your fingers,
Hook your hands around your knees,
And pull back into your arms.
Your arms are straight as you pull back,
Allowing you to feel a pull in your low back in the vicinity of your kidneys.
Simultaneously,
Tighten your abdominal muscles,
Pulling back towards your spine.
Remain pulling and gently tilt your head back.
Round your lips as you exhale,
Making the healing sound.
When your exhale is completed,
Release your interlocking fingers,
Sit up straight,
Move your knees and ankles apart,
And rest comfortably with your hands on your thighs,
Palms or surface facing upward.
When you are ready,
Repeat this exercise and sounding sequence at least five more times.
When complete with the exercise,
Close your eyes and continue to breathe normally,
Paying attention to your breath and any sensations in your body.
Allow your attention to hear the water music track.
Following the practice,
Expect to feel relaxed and strong,
More courageous and without fear.
