Comfort meditation.
Sitting,
Breathing,
And experiencing yourself focusing on the inhale and on the exhale,
On the rising and falling of your abdomen.
Imagine yourself sitting at the edge of a beautiful blue lake where someone has just passed by in a motorboat.
The wake from the boat sends ripples towards the shore.
Watch as the froth at the top of the waves settles down in the distance and the choppy waters push towards you.
Each wave becomes a little smaller,
A little calmer as it moves in your direction towards the shore.
The motorboat is long gone now.
The waves smooth out as they reach the shore and become gentle ripples that spread quietly over the pebbles on the beach.
You watch each tiny wave spread out over those pebbles until there's almost no movement from the water.
You look out onto the lake and you see how still it has become.
The water is gently,
Almost imperceptibly undulating,
Growing ever more still.
Underneath the surface of the water,
Bits of sand and dirt that came in towards the shore on the waves are now settling slowly,
Gently,
And peacefully to the bottom.
In a very short and peaceful period of time,
All above and all below are now still,
Even here,
As you deepen into the clarity and stillness of the wise mind.
As you bring to the surface in your meditation the products of your mind that often create the restlessness,
The worry,
The pain,
You may find that they yield little value or interest to you.
A thought such as,
With the economy in this state,
I don't know how I'm going to stay solvent in all likelihood.
It's one that you've experienced consciously,
But your mind recreates again and again in response to any situation that stirs up feelings of fear or uncertainty.
The well-worn pathways in the brain do an excellent job at efficiently producing the types of thoughts that will keep those highways open to many,
Many,
Many lanes of traffic.
To find a new,
Less traveled road takes a small amount of conscious effort.
And through the building of mind strength paired with awareness,
We can avoid the distraction of examining or re-examining every anxious thought generated in those established neural networks of our brain-mind.
Equanimity and comfort allow you to find the road to the core creativity that's available to you right here and now.
The path in equanimity,
The pathway to the core now.
