The Effortless Awareness Meditation This meditation contains some words of guidance as well as stretches of silence for you to practice on your own.
My teacher once asked me,
When I was going through a turmoil in my personal life,
He said,
How would it look like if it was easy?
So in today's meditation,
I invite you to do nothing,
To not try hard and see how it would look like if it was easy,
Effortless.
Wonderful,
So let's begin by nestling into a comfortable seated posture.
Relax your forehead and allow your eyelids to slowly close over.
With your eyes closed now,
Let's set an intention to fully unplug from the outside world for this period of practice.
Imagine all your worldly concerns,
Problems,
All dissolving like a mist into a vast sky.
Forget about the world for a moment.
Nothing outside this room exists,
Empty.
Now bring your awareness to your whole body,
Not focusing on any sensation in particular,
But see if you can feel your body as a whole,
This beautiful luminous vessel that carries you through life.
Soften the muscles of your body,
Melting into your seat,
Heavy.
It feels nice to relax.
Give yourself permission to savor that relaxation.
Allow your breath to flow naturally in your warm belly.
Relinquish any control over it.
Can you notice that your body is aware of itself?
Awareness is not something that you actively have to achieve.
It blooms with ease when you surrender.
You are not your body,
You are the effortless awareness that witnesses it all.
Allow your thoughts to flow naturally,
Relinquish control over them.
Easier said than done,
Right?
I know it's not always simple to allow our thoughts,
Especially uncomfortable ones,
To roam around.
But for this moment,
Trust that you're held safe enough to release them.
You are allowed to not be smart,
To not think.
Soften your interest in the content of your thoughts,
Allowing them to pass freely.
Can you notice that mind relaxation is happening on its own?
It's not something you actively strive for.
Rest,
Rest in the unfolding of your mind's independent presence.
You are not your mind's activity.
You are a bright,
Spacious,
Loving awareness that witnesses it all.
Can you notice that your awareness is also happening on its own?
It's not something you actively have to create.
The gift of awareness has been given to you as this miraculous life itself.
Rest in that effortless knowing.
I am here,
I am aware,
I am.
Now,
Slowly start coming back into your body.
Feel its warmth,
Coolness.
Allow the sounds in the room to pass through you.
Coming back to your environment.
Alright,
My dearest,
Well done.

Now,
When you are ready,
Slowly blink open your eyes.
Notice that awareness still continues effortlessly.
