Welcome everyone.

Today we're going to take a short moment to center ourselves before diving into our goal setting.

I'm Emily Dux from Making Space Coach,

A certified OKR coach,

And David G meditation teacher.

So you want to set some goals.

Well,

Think about this practice as hitting the reset button on your brain,

Like clearing off a cluttered desk before starting fresh.

You don't need to sit in any special way or have any special equipment.

Just get comfortable in your chair,

Feet on the floor,

Hands resting on your lap,

Or maybe on a table,

Whatever feels natural for you.

Let's start by taking a deep breath in through your nose and a slow breath out through your mouth.

Try that again.

Big breath in and release it.

Feel the sensation of the air moving in and out.

No need to control it.

Just notice it.

Breathing in,

Breathing out.

Feel the cool air coming into your nose,

Into your chest,

Filling your belly,

And on an exhale,

Coming back out through your nose or your mouth,

Dissipating in the room around you.

Now let your attention move to where your body touches the chair and the floor.

Feel the weight of your body supported by the chair.

Feel your feet connected to the ground.

Imagine that connection anchoring you,

Giving you a solid foundation to think clearly and creatively.

To help focus our minds,

I'll guide you through a simple phrase.

In your mind,

Silently repeat after me.

I am clear.

I am focused.

Take a breath in as you think,

I am clear,

And a breath out as you think,

I am focused.

Breath in,

I am clear.

Breath out,

I am focused.

I am clear.

I am focused.

Don't worry if your mind wanders.

That's completely normal.

When you notice it,

Just gently flow back to the words,

I am clear.

I am focused.

I am clear.

I am focused.

Let's begin to come back to the room now,

Wiggling your fingers and toes,

Maybe stretch a little bit.

And if your eyes did happen to close during that,

You open your eyes back up.

You've just taken a step toward creating space for focused,

Effective goal setting.

Let's bring that energy into the work we're about to do.

If you're ready to set some goals and have an approach that you already use,

Feel free to drop now and do that.

Look forward to seeing you the next time we come together to make space.

Otherwise,

I'll lead you through a prompted writing exercise to help you draw out your heart's desires for crafting those goals.

I'll ask you a question.

You may pause to spend some time on it right now,

Journaling,

Writing,

Or maybe you want to write them all down and then get to writing all of them in one fell swoop.

I'd recommend each question that I prompt you with that you spend approximately one minute just writing from your heart in response to that question.

Don't overthink it.

Don't get too much in your head about it.

Write the things that come from your heart and then move on to the next question.

You can always come back to questions over time through this process.

And these are evergreen questions that you can use time and time again.

So let's get started.

First section,

We want to take stock of where we're at right now.

Question one.

What am I grateful for?

What's really important to me?

What am I grateful for?

What is really important to me?

Question two.

When I'm at my best,

Who am I?

What am I doing?

Who am I with?

How am I showing up?

When I'm at my best,

Who am I?

What am I doing?

Who am I with?

How am I showing up?

Question three.

What or who is leading my life right now?

These could be influences,

Values,

Work,

A project,

Dreams,

A relationship.

So what or who is leading my life right now?

Let answers bubble up directly from your heart,

Not overthinking these.

Now let's move on to the next section.

Thinking about what your vision is.

Question one.

What do I want to be known for?

What will be my legacy?

What do I want to be known for?

What will be my legacy?

Question two.

Where do I want to be this time next year,

Or maybe quarter,

This time in a quarter from now?

Who am I?

Who am I with?

What does my life look like?

Question two is,

Where do I want to be this time next year,

Or in a quarter from now?

Who am I?

Who am I with?

What does my life look like?

The third section.

How do I get there?

Question one.

Where does my energy need to be focused?

Where does my energy need to be focused?

Question two.

What do I need more?

What do I need less of?

What do I need more of?

What do I need less of?

Question three.

Is there someone or something in my life that needs more of my attention?

Is there someone or something in my life that needs more of my attention?

Question four.

What is one thing I can do to start?

What is one thing I can do to start?

Fourth and last section.

What's in your way right now and what's holding you back?

Question one.

What am I holding on to that is no longer serving me?

What am I holding on to that's no longer serving me?

Question two.

Where do I need more consistency?

Where do I need more consistency?

Question three.

How am I sabotaging my own success?

How am I sabotaging my own success?

Okay.

Once you've spent some time with these questions,

Perhaps some goals are already bubbling up,

Some directions coming to you,

There are plenty of goal-setting frameworks that you can use.

Just do a quick search on it.

One of my favorites is SMART.

S-M-A-R-T.

And it stands for specific,

Measurable,

Attainable,

Realistic,

And time-bound.

And those five attributes of a goal or an objective can help to make sure that you're creating something that is achievable,

Something that is realistic,

Something that is time-bound,

Something that you can make real for yourself.

So again,

It is SMART,

Specific,

Measurable,

Attainable,

Realistic,

Time-bound.

Use these as gates to pass your goals through to help make them the most effective and impactful for you.

Now get out there and start setting some goals that align with that vision you wrote about and help to lead you to a life that you've dreamed of.

Let me know in the comments what you're going to do this year.

I cannot wait to hear from you and hear about all the success that you're having.

Until then,

This is Emily Dux reminding you to make space for your best self.

Namaste.
