I want to talk about fear.
Anytime you're thinking about change,
Whether it's a career change or business change or thinking about moving from employment to self-employment,
Fear is going to get kicked up.
It is just a fact.
Any kind of change,
But maybe especially around work because there's so much connected to that,
Our income,
Our identity,
It's big.
And so even though you might be wanting a change,
You're really desperate to maybe leave that job that's not feeling good,
But then there's also the fear of change.
So what are you supposed to do?
Want the change,
But fear the change.
Ah!
Right?
This is normal.
Everyone has it.
It's part of my training as a coach to help people with fear of change because it's big and it will stop us from doing things that really matter to us if we're not careful.
So I just want to say a few words about it to plant a seed.
First of all,
That it's normal and you're human.
If that's happening,
It's bound to be happening.
And people still move forward despite all the voices inside that say,
No,
That's too hard.
I can't do that.
I hate that.
That's not going to work for me.
It sounds,
It comes in all kinds of tricky ways.
It doesn't just say afraid of change.
It says,
I can't do that.
That's not going to work for me and my family and our income needs or that's for other people or it's too late for me to change or I'm never going to find something that I like so I might as well stay with this.
It sounds in all kind of ways.
But you also have another part of your brain that's not so resistant that wants the change and we can start to listen to that a little more and figure out how do we get around this other part.
There are some ways.
So I just want to share some quick things about it right now and you know I'd have to write a whole book to really get into it all and I've read some good books about it and learned a lot.
Three things have helped me a lot that I tend to turn to is one is really breaking it down into step by step.
Small steps.
It tends to help quiet that fearful part of the brain.
The second one is support.
Don't go it alone.
It's a thinking partner like a coach or a friend,
Someone that believes in you,
A community of people going through something similar.
And the third one is really big and that's a sense of purpose.
It kind of helps you have wings to get past that barrier.
You know it's like that passion for what you're doing,
That vision for something you want so much it can kind of just help you rise above the fear stuff much more easily.
It's kind of a critical piece.
So getting clear on what you really want is a perfect first step.
That sense of purpose that can help you get past this.
So instead of trying to figure out all the fixing the worry part,
Find the what you want and somehow the how starts to get easier and starts to come more clear.
So good place to start getting clear on what you want.
So worry about the what-ifs after that.
So that's a good starting place.
Hope that's helpful for today.
Thanks.
