We can bring mindfulness into our everyday tasks, even when we are washing dishes. Get your soap ready and I'll be your guide as if I am a friend beside you supporting your discovery. In this short mindful activity, you'll use your senses to open your awareness and possibly turn this mundane task into an enjoyable experience you look forward to as a form of meditation. Thank you for welcoming me into your practice.

My name is Erica and I will be your guide as if I am a friend beside you supporting your discovery in this mindful activity.

Today we will be washing dishes.

So I'm imagining you are in front of the sink.

Maybe starting to start with running water.

Holding your first item to be cleaned.

Using soap here.

As you begin to wash this dish,

Starting to pay attention to the feel of whatever it is you are washing.

What is the texture of the surface?

What does it feel like to feel the soapiness of the soap on your fingers?

How do you know when the dish or pot is clean?

Maybe seeing less suds.

Maybe a feeling of no slip.

Maybe as you move on to other items,

What sounds might you hear?

Maybe sounds of clinking utensils.

Dish or pot against the surface of the sink.

And as you continue to wash,

What are you feeling now?

Have you thought about what you ate earlier today that contributed to these dishes?

Food remaining.

Scratches stained.

Just observing the evidence of food.

Of a meal that fed you or others.

And as you hold your next item that you're washing or to be washed,

What is the weight feel like in your hand?

What is the shape of this item?

What material is it made from?

Maybe as you're placing new items onto the rack,

What might you notice as you stack or gather items?

Maybe seeing running water along the sides.

Maybe a feeling of satisfaction of something that is now clean.

Maybe exploring a different temperature of water.

What might it feel like to wash dishes with a different temperature?

Maybe something cooler or something warmer.

How might this change the experience for you?

And how might this support or hinder the cleaning that you're doing?

Seeing if you can continue to be here with the water,

With the soap,

The dishes.

Focusing on the act of cleaning,

Awareness.

Rinse and repeat.

I'll give you a few minutes here on your own.

Enjoy.

Take me back to the workshop.

Put your nucleus on it right now so you can recognize yourself and pick out other Andre S feel so good there And welcome to continue.

When you are finished washing the dishes,

Maybe taking a moment to reflect on maybe what came up for you.

Be something you've never noticed before.

I've been your guide,

Erica,

Thank you for inviting me to practice with you.

This helped me stay focused on and feel refreshed by task that usually sucks much of my time and energy.

I looked up "washing dishes", and I found this meditation 😃 I remember Thich Nhat Hahn saying in one of his books: "we are not alive during the time we are washing the dishes", and lately I started to deal with my anxiety by doing just that - try to be mindful while washing dishes. Thank you for this beautiful moment of mindfulness. 💚 I will be coming back to this meditation.
