This 3-minute meditation focuses on self-compassion. Good Therapy defines self-compassion as “...the ability to turn understanding, acceptance, and love inward.” Most of us find it easy to extend compassion to others. However, this same gesture can prove difficult to redirect towards ourselves. Science has demonstrated that our engagement in self-compassion has the propensity to alleviate anxiety and insecurity.

Welcome.

I am your host,

Ebony Howell.

Let's begin our practice with a few triangle breaths.

In triangular breathing,

We inhale for a count of three,

Hold for a count of three,

And exhale for a count of three.

Let's do it together.

Deep inhale,

Three,

Exhale,

Two,

Three.

Inhale,

Two,

Three,

Hold,

Three,

Now once on your own.

Today,

I want to focus on self-compassion.

If you are anything like me,

You will admit that you are your worst critic.

I know I can be pretty hard on myself.

Self-compassion is the act of extending compassion to oneself in instances of perceived inadequacy,

Failure,

And general suffering.

Through self-compassion,

We offer to ourselves that same unconditional positive regard that we would give to another who is wrestling with difficult emotions.

We offer others a word of encouragement,

Empathy,

And care.

Today,

We offer ourselves that same grace.

Repeat after me,

I am worthy of kindness and care.

Let's say it again,

I am worthy of kindness and care.
