We Are Given So Many Simple Keys By The Universe We Ignore
by Boom Shikha
The universe is always trying to help us out by giving us simple keys for growth and transformation. But we end up ignoring all, in favor of something more complex. Why do we do that? Is complex better than simple? Does complex work better than something simple? I don't think so, but we end up behaving like it does. Photo by Kevin Schmid on Unsplash

Hello everyone!
I hope that you're doing amazing wherever you are in the world.
My name is Bloomshekha,
As you all probably already know.
And in this one,
I wanted to speak to you about using food as medicine.
Now,
I think this is a concept that's pretty common and well known in the world.
And still I feel like even though we have this knowledge,
We know that food is medicine.
That it can be used to heal us,
To transform us from the inside out,
To make us into someone that we're not,
Just through the process of munching on some delicious goodies.
I think that a lot of us,
And including me,
We don't actually take advantage of it completely,
Really truly if you think about it.
It's kind of similar to a lot of the ways we deal with the way the world is set up,
I think.
In that we're given all of these keys,
These very simple keys to the universe.
We're kind of given all of these beautiful keys to the universe.
And we could,
If we wanted to,
Use these keys,
These simple and easy to use keys,
To transform ourselves and to change ourselves into this person that we're not,
To enhance ourselves,
To build ourselves into the best version of ourselves.
We are given these keys by the universe or by God or whatever,
The divine creator,
Whoever you believe is that.
And we kind of placed all of these keys all around the world,
All around our little universe,
As we call it,
The Earth.
And it's there for the taking.
And maybe you know about some of these keys,
Maybe you don't know about all of them,
It's fine.
You don't need to know about all of them even.
Even if you just know one or two of these keys,
Which most people do,
You can be at the top of your field,
Your profession,
Your life,
Your self-fulfillment,
All of that,
Whatever you're searching for.
And so it's really fascinating to me because they're there for the taking,
They're there for the picking,
They're low-hanging fruit.
And we're sitting there thinking,
Oh,
You know what,
This is too simple.
I need to find something more complicated.
I need to find something that is a little bit more complex.
It needs a lot more steps.
It needs to have at least 15 steps for me to follow it.
If it only has a couple of steps,
Well,
Yeah,
That's boring.
Also,
Probably it doesn't work,
Even though it's been proven it works.
But it's too simple for me.
I'm a complicated being.
I am a human being that's complicated,
And I get that.
We're all complicated in our own ways.
But for some reason,
When we look at something that's too simple and too simplistic in the way that it only has one or two steps and it's easy enough to do,
We don't trust it.
We don't believe it's not going to result in anything major.
We don't think that's going to transform our life.
And that's why a lot of the things that you look at in the world right now that are magnificent in their transformational power,
For example,
Meditation,
For example,
Yoga,
For example,
Healthy food,
For example,
Walking,
Just walking for 10,
000 or 15,
000 steps a day,
Transformational.
Most people will not do it,
Though.
Investing a little bit of your money every month,
Saving.
I don't know,
Like abhyanga,
Which is like a self-massage using body oil,
It's a very simple thing to do.
You just put oil on your body,
And it's supposed to be very transformational in your stress relief and in a lot of different ways.
And I've spoken about abhyanga before.
Very simple,
Most people will not do it.
So again,
All of these things are kind of,
All of these keys are kind of placed into our palm by God or by the divine creator.
He's kind of given us the keys and placed it inside of our heart or somewhere in our vicinity,
Maybe in our house even.
And he's like,
Go forth.
Here it is.
These are your keys.
You have nothing to worry about.
If you use this key,
This simple key that I've given you,
You will get to where you want to get to.
And of course,
As I said,
One of these keys is food.
And it's as simple as,
Okay,
Don't eat a lot of processed foods.
Eat as much plant-based meals as possible.
Of course,
If you're eating meat,
Have a little bit of meat,
Of course,
But not too much.
Not all of your meals should be meat and proportions should be right.
And don't eat too much food.
And that's it.
Eat a little.
Eat mostly plant-based and don't eat processed food.
And that's literally the gist of it.
And we sit here and we think to ourselves,
Okay,
Well,
Yes,
Perhaps eating processed,
Non-processed foods is a little bit difficult because then you actually have to maybe perhaps cook a little bit more.
You don't have to go grocery shopping.
I love grocery shopping,
So for me it's a pleasure rather than a chore.
And I love to cook,
So obviously,
Again,
It's a pleasure rather than a chore.
But sometimes I do get annoyed as well and I'm like,
Oh,
I wish I could just have food drop into my belly right now.
But it does take a lot of,
It is a little bit of work.
You have to do a little bit of planning where you go to the grocery store every week.
You make a list,
You go to the grocery store,
You buy the things you need.
And then you prepare a little bit,
So if you know that you get hungry at 12 p.
M.
Every day,
Then you make sure you have something to eat,
Something healthy,
Something non-processed,
Something plant-based,
With a little bit of meat added in if you're eating meat.
And if same thing,
Kind of you know that you kind of get hungry at 4 p.
M.
And you become a little peckish,
Then you have something for that time,
You know,
Something that is maybe cut vegetables or fruit or hummus and crackers or whatever it might be that is your choice,
Snack choice.
And the same thing for breakfast and dinner,
You know,
If you know that you get hungry as soon as you wake up and then you have a tendency to eat not so good food because you are starving and you can't make proper decisions,
Then have some accommodation for that.
Have some muesli at home and a little bit of plant-based milk or milk in general,
Whatever it is,
And have that ready so that you don't have to scramble in the morning and then start scrambling,
You don't end up eating something really bad for you,
Right?
Same thing with dinner,
Of course,
You know,
Like it's so easy for a lot of people to be like,
Well,
I am tired,
It was a long day at work and I want to treat myself.
You know,
We say that a lot to ourselves.
And instead of saying,
Okay,
I'm going to actually,
You know,
Cook what's inside of my fridge,
And I do this all the time,
It's actually really funny to me because I don't buy that much groceries because I know that,
You know,
It's easy to drop into a grocery store on the way home and kind of grab whatever you need.
So I don't buy too many things because I do notice that a lot of times I'll be lazy and I'll just grab something from the outside,
Some fast food,
And there's food at home in the fridge that is just going to go bad.
And I know that it's going to go bad and I see it going bad.
And instead of actually cooking it and saying,
Okay,
You know,
I have a zucchini at home,
I know I can see it in my mind's eye,
It's there in my fridge,
I can go home and cook it.
Instead of doing that,
I'll just be like,
Well,
I'll just grab some fried rice on the way.
It's called Nasi Goreng in Bali.
And it's just so easy,
You know,
Like,
Oh,
It's just so easy.
I'll just buy it and I can just eat that.
Of course,
It doesn't taste as good or it doesn't feel as good in my body to eat fried rice as opposed to sauteed zucchini with whatever it might be.
But it's easy,
You know,
It's convenient.
And so,
Yeah,
It's so interesting to me as well because even though I know these things,
And as everyone does,
We all know these things,
But even then we end up making these other decisions not so conducive to our transformation,
To our health,
To our growth,
To our accomplished life.
And so I think I'm always trying to,
For myself,
Bring myself to this mode of realizing the simple things matter more than the big things.
You know,
When I'm trying to build my health,
Buying a pair of really,
Really expensive running shoes and then going for a run every day or pretending like I'm going to go for a run every day,
Is not the way to do it.
If I'm going to really do it and I'm going to make it easy for myself,
The better thing would be for myself to do my yoga practice every day.
Or if I want to do some movement exercise,
Then to put on a regular pair of shoes,
No need to buy something really fancy,
And then go for a walk,
Listen to an audiobook and go for a walk for half an hour,
45 minutes,
An hour a day around the neighborhood.
And say hello to your neighbors,
See a few people,
And be outside in nature in the sun,
And also get your movement in.
And so for me,
I'm always trying to see,
And it's very easy for the mind to create these stories that says,
Oh,
You need to complicate it because otherwise it's not going to work.
The same thing kind of applies in my investments as well,
Or like in my financial life,
Where I'm always like,
Well,
You know,
I'm doing it,
I'm kind of investing every month a little bit,
And it's simple,
It's automated,
I don't have to think about it,
But I should be doing more.
I'm always thinking,
Well,
What if I found this random new investment,
And maybe it's the next big thing and I can put some money in there,
Or I should go put my money in here or there.
I'm always trying to look for something more complicated,
More complex,
Instead of just going along with the simplistic key that has been handed to me already that says,
Invest a little bit of money every single day,
Every single month,
Into an ETF or whatever it might be,
Which is my style of investing.
And that's it,
I don't have to worry about anything else,
I don't have to do anything else,
I can just keep it simple,
As I would keep it simple with my meals,
As I would keep it simple with my movement,
As I would keep it simple with my meditation,
It's as simple as watching your breath.
You don't have to make it complicated,
You can,
If you want,
Make it more complicated and buy all those devices,
Like the news and all that,
In order to meditate better.
Of course you can do all that,
But the simplistic thing is always,
It does work,
It doesn't mean that you need to look for something more complicated.
If you're thinking that the simple key is not going to work,
Then you're mistaken.
The complex key works as well,
Of course,
But for me I always want to keep things simple,
Especially because I know that I won't follow things if they're too complicated.
In fact,
The more complicated I make things,
The less likely I am to keep consistent with it.
I've noticed this about myself over and over again,
I wonder why that is,
But that's the way I am,
I guess.
I've really always tried,
Every single thing I do,
I try to make it as simple as possible.
These videos,
I try to make it as simple as possible.
Just speak into a camera,
Do a vlog,
And then put them out there.
Or even the podcasts that I do,
Everywhere that I put them,
It's very simple.
I'll speak into a camera,
I'll record it,
And then I'll put it on there.
No fancy gadgets,
No fancy equipment,
No fancy editing,
Nothing.
Simple,
Simple,
Simple.
I wanted to do this talk because I wanted to remind all of us,
And particularly myself,
That just because something is simple doesn't mean that it's not going to work.
In fact,
It's probably the opposite.
That's going to work really well if you can only stick to it,
If you can only believe in it and stick to it long enough.
I think I would really implore you to look at this in your own life and think about it for your own life,
Where this applies.
Is there something that you're complicating,
Which you could simplify instead,
And it would still work perfectly.
It could be even your relationship.
Sometimes you think,
Oh,
Going to couples therapy or all that stuff is better than actually just sitting down and spending some quality time together.
I'm not saying couples therapy doesn't work,
But I'm always thinking to myself,
You know,
How can I simplify this rather than make it more complicated?
Because our minds always want to complicate things,
But it's not necessary every single time.
Sometimes it is,
But mostly it's not.
Thank you so much for listening.
Thank you for watching wherever you are,
And I really appreciate your time,
Your support,
And your love.
Sending you lots of love and lots of simplified routines.
And I shall see you the next time around.
Bye.
