Join Britta Eskey for part one of the power of breath series, the cleansing breath. These are five simple yet powerful breathing practices to calm your nervous system and train and settle your mind. They are great entryways into any silent meditation practice, or can be used in and of themselves, at any time during the day.

So today we're going to do the cleansing breath.

So what that is,

Is like you take deep diaphragmatic breath in through both nostrils like this.

And then when you've reached full capacity all the way,

You know,

Your chest is full,

Your belly is full,

Then through your mouth you breathe out.

Let's try this now together.

In,

All the way,

All the way,

All the way,

And out through the mouth.

Again,

In through the nose,

Filling your diaphragm and your belly,

And then when you have full capacity out through the mouth.

Again,

In and out.

And keep going.

And as you're breathing in,

Just imagine it's like a massage.

You're using your breath like an internal massage.

And as you're breathing out,

You're just letting go of stress.

Letting go of toxins as you breathe out.

And breathing in relaxation.

So you can do three or four or seven or eight,

You can do three or four or seven,

Maybe even nine of these.

And they will kind of wake you up.

They will cleanse you.

They're a great way to start a meditation practice or a compassion cultivation practice or anything like that.

They're a great entry way.

So you don't wanna keep breathing like this the whole meditation,

But you can use it to kind of ring yourself there,

Wake yourself up,

Get yourself ready,

Or just use it anytime during the day whenever you need a little cleansing.

So have fun experimenting with this.
