Thank you for joining me in this practice of leaning into the backside of our body for restoration.
Our busy lives and challenging world often push us to the front side of our bodies,
Where we are actively engaged in work,
With interactions with others,
And with events in the world.
Take this moment to lean back and rest for a bit.
This practice is best done in a lying down position,
Indoors or even outdoors if you wish.
Have supportive pillows or bolsters for your neck and under your knees if your body likes that.
I do this practice with my eyes closed,
But it's not necessary if you prefer open or soft eyes.
As you settle into this lying down posture,
Feel the supportive surface beneath you.
It will hold you.
Trust the support felt on the back of your body.
As you feel yourself slowing down,
Notice the busy energy of your body being drawn towards the back of your whole body.
It may feel like sand in an hourglass,
Slowly settling towards the earth,
Or an anchor from a boat,
Slowly dropping to the bottom of a lake.
You might also have your own image and felt sense of this settling back.
Invite your attention towards the backside of your body.
Where you are making contact with the surface under you.
Feel the back of your head touching the ground.
Your shoulder blades connecting with the earth beneath your body.
Your upper back,
Mid back,
Low back,
And sacrum,
Nestled close to the earth,
Being held and welcome.
Feel your pelvis and seat and the back of your legs resting on the surface under you.
Notice the contact points all down your legs to your heels.
Feel a weightiness or heaviness on the backside of your whole body as you melt into the earth.
This beautiful gravity holding you to the welcoming earth.
Now you can rest in the quietness,
The stillness of the earth beneath you.
Your breath coming easily in and out in a gentle wave,
Ongoing,
Ever-present and gentle.
Feel the earth hold you.
Feel the backside of your body being embraced.
We will rest together for the next few minutes in silence.
I'll be right here with you as you allow your body to soften and restore itself.
You may notice your mind gets busy.
That's really normal.
Just acknowledge that and drop back again to the backside of your body.
Right now,
There is nothing to do,
Nowhere to go,
Nothing to fix or change.
You have all the time in the world right now to rest and restore your body,
Your mind,
And your heart.
Again and again,
Returning to this restful pose in your mind and heart and body.
If you wish,
You can continue this back body meditation on your own as the recording ends.
Remember that throughout the day,
You can lean back into the backside of your body for a moment of rest and restoration.
If you're ending the practice now,
Make sure that you slowly bring your awareness back to all parts of your body,
Toes and feet,
Legs,
Pelvis,
All the organs in the trunk,
Fingers and arms,
Shoulders,
Neck and head.
Feel your whole body being more full as you rise up from the backside of your body.
As you open your eyes,
Do it slowly.
Give yourself some time to orient and look around at your current surroundings.
Let your first movements be slow and gentle.
May you feel restored.
May your rest be deep.
And may you continue to move through the rest of your day with a bit more ease with this practice.
And if you do this before you fall asleep,
May you have a deep,
Long rest.
Thanks for your practice today.
