Hi there,

This is Ed,

And welcome to the Sound of Silence sleep meditation.

You know,

Falling asleep is actually natural,

Except for the fact that our mental energy keeps us alert.

So,

Let's do one thing right now as I help you get to sleep.

Let's eliminate the obstacles that keep you alert.

So let's calm that part of yourself that wants you to take action,

That wants you to take thought,

And allow your natural ability to fall asleep just to come into action to wake up.

Okay,

So you're in bed,

In that comfortable position that you love so much,

That you're used to falling asleep in.

Your eyes are closed,

And you're listening to my voice.

Put all your attention on the sound of my voice.

Don't fight the thoughts that come into your head,

Or the sensations that are in your body.

Just listen to the deep frequency of my voice,

And allow yourself to be present.

Now,

While you bide the tones and vibrations of my deep voice,

Which I've been blessed with,

Ask yourself,

What is the sound of silence?

What is the sound of sleep?

You're not trying to come up with an answer.

You're asking a question that has no answer,

But you're asking the mind then to be quiet,

To try to listen,

To try to find an answer where there's no answer.

It's a technique that meditators do to silence the mind.

So just sit there and say,

What is the sound of silence?

What is the sound of sleep?

And accept and know that there is no answer to the question.

Try to listen to the silence in your mind as you ponder the emptiness of the no answer that comes from the mind.

So,

While you're asking that question,

Also be mindful of the vibrations of my voice as you allow your mind to try to answer the question.

Know that when you ask this question,

You're taking your mind away from the worry,

The concern,

Whatever the mind is thinking that's keeping you alert,

The worry about tomorrow,

The worry about your health,

The worry about something,

A low level nervousness or anxiety,

Or an uncomfortable feeling in the body.

Good.

And as you answer this question,

This no answer kind of question,

Take a moment to feel what's going on in your body.

Do a body scan from head to toe.

Just feel,

What is my arm feeling?

What is my neck feeling?

Is there any sensation in any part of my body that's making itself known to me?

You don't need to know why.

Just allow yourself to inquire.

You might start with saying,

Where's my feet?

What do my toes feel like?

What position is my body in?

While you continue to feel the emptiness of the sounds of a sleepy silence,

Maybe it's a hum or a vibration that started in your mind and now is moving into your body.

And you will notice that you're moving from your mind and thoughts into your body and sensations,

And that's good.

Yeah.

Just allow your mind to ponder and be in a silence and an emptiness.

Be in what I call the sound of sleep,

The sound of sleep approaching,

The sound of restfulness,

The sound of relaxation,

The sound of ahhh.

Yes,

In your mind and in your body.

And as you hear my voice resonate,

I'd like you to imagine that you can feel my voice in your belly.

Imagine that your belly is vibrating to the sound and vibrations of my voice.

And possibly your body,

Your belly is feeling warm and relaxed in comfort.

Maybe there's a gentle stirring and a release.

And become aware that as you become aware of it,

It disappears.

In the stillness of the room,

In the stillness of the night,

In the stillness that you're creating.

Now imagine you can hear and feel the vibrations of my voice in your solar plexus.

Feel how it feels in your solar plexus.

How it unwinds,

Whatever is there,

As your body begins to feel more and more relaxed in this vibration that's beginning to be created with my voice.

Notice the calming sensations in your body,

In your solar plexus.

Notice the space between your thoughts and the space inside your body as you ride the sensations and the vibrations of my voice into a deep,

Restful,

Calming place.

This beautiful,

Calming place that puts an end to the day.

It brings you rest,

Relaxation.

And if you're still with me now,

Gently just put the vibrations of my voice into your throat.

Feel my voice in your throat.

Feel the soothing and relaxation of your neck and shoulders.

Taking you deeper into the silence,

Into the silence of sleep,

Into the release of sleep.

Letting go and freeing you of all the energies and thoughts and concerns of your day,

Of your life,

Of the world around you.

Feel the deep restlessness fall away and allow the restfulness to encompass you.

Imagine that you're in a womb of warmth and love and it's surrounding you,

Massaging you.

And the energy and vibration of that just creates this quiet,

Expanding energy energy moving through your body and moving through your mind and moving you into a deeper and deeper state of relaxation,

An invitation for peace.

Imagine that my voice and the vibration is circling around and through you.

And the mind just cannot fight it.

The mind cannot resist it.

The mind just gets quieter and quieter as your body goes deeper and deeper into the deep levels of rest.

And imagine that your body is like a feather that's just floating in this openness,

Floating in this spaciousness,

Floating in this nothingness.

And as you float through the air and hover over your bed,

You begin to let go even more.

You're letting go of the room,

Of your bed,

Of your body,

Of your thoughts.

You're letting go,

Even now,

You're letting go of the vibrations of my voice and inviting the energy of sleep,

The silence of sleep,

To take you,

To take you where you want to go,

Into the peacefulness of rest,

The home of all nourishment,

The silence that is everything and nothing.

All this is here for you now.

Imagine,

If you're still here,

Imagine that you're expanding.

The borders of your body are vaporizing and you're just becoming mist in the air.

You're becoming bigger and bigger,

Losing your boundaries and your limitations.

And your desire to feel or think,

But just to be.

Imagine you're that feather.

There's a wind that's just lifting you up and you're going up and up and up.

You're over your bed,

You're over your ceiling in your room,

You're over your house,

You're over your city,

You're in the stars,

Floating.

You're nothingness,

You're allowing yourself to be silence.

You are the sound of silence.

You are the everything and the nothing.

And it's okay to let go,

Because you'll come back.

It's okay to rest,

Because you'll feel better.

In the morning,

It's okay to be yourself,

Because you are perfect.

You are perfect just the way you are.

You're perfect just the way you are.

So just let go.

Just let go.

Just let go.

Just let go.

Just let go.

Just let go.

Just let go.

Just let go.
