You Don't Need To Feel Bad

This is a reflection I recorded in nature on how we are not 'sentenced' to feel bad, but instead, it is an invitation to feel the emotions that are there for a good reason and nothing going 'wrong'. Being with emotions is key. I hope you find it useful. Apologies for any ruffling jacket noises. Much love, Felix

You see the thing when we face our emotions,

When we learn to be with our emotions is that there's no more excuses to stay stuck and in telling ourselves,

Oh well this is going on,

So I'm supposed to feel bad.

No,

You're supposed to feel your emotions.

Maybe you will feel bad while you do that.

But you feel bad because it's there to tell you something.

That whatever's happening there,

That doesn't help my thriving and surviving.

So you can either let it stay because that's familiar and we all love the familiar.

Or you can face it and be with it and that can be a lengthy process and it can be rough.

But if you ask me,

It's so much better than staying in that familiar space which is comfortable,

Aka your comfort zone,

But it's not freeing.

It's not,

It doesn't open you up to all of life or the possibilities.

Because we all cling on to these feelings.

Because somewhere,

Somehow,

We've also started to get addicted to them and enjoy them.

What we enjoy is not the actual bad feelings,

What we enjoy is the familiar.

And it's just so obvious to me in my own life where it's like something would happen that is about survival,

Like survival based stuff.

I'm just like,

Oh I don't have enough of this.

And then I could go for a few hours,

Maybe even a whole day,

Just feeling like,

Oh I don't have enough,

I'm not enough.

Alert,

Alert,

Alert,

Alert,

Alert.

Whereas if I just sit with it,

I'm like,

Okay,

I hear that's how you feel.

And I actually thank you because if this mechanism wasn't there,

If you weren't there in this way,

If you didn't show up for me in this way,

If there was a real danger here right now and there was nothing I could do about it,

Or nothing I am doing about it,

You would push me to do something about it.

And I appreciate that.

However,

Let me just assess how much of a real need there is right now for these alarm bells to be on constantly.

And if there isn't,

Then I'm going to be with you,

I'm going to say thank you,

Thank you for being here.

Look,

I got this.

And then what tends to happen is it starts to realize,

All right,

Because it doesn't want to be on the whole time,

It just comes on because that's what your body's programmed to do.

It just feels it has to step up right now and it's doing its job.

And when it realizes,

Like,

Okay,

I don't need to do my job right now,

We can make room for more thriving and enjoying of life,

Which is what your organism also wants.

All right,

Like,

Don't you just want to just make the most of what is here and just be really conscious of when these alarm bells go off and use them to your advantage when you can benefit from them and then just turn them off when you don't need them?

Because we live in a society that constantly triggers our alarm bells to make money for whatever different reasons,

Right?

Because the best way to sell something is out of fear.

So as we exist in this world where things are a bit like that,

And of course we're changing it day by day,

Brick by brick,

Building that new castle.

But as that's around us a lot of times and we've embodied that and maybe taking it on from the people around us,

But at the same time taking full responsibility for our life right now,

Just becoming more conscious is just such a game changer and no more excuses.

You don't have to feel bad just because this is going on.

You should,

However,

Feel your emotions and you may feel bad for a little while.

But you don't have to.

It's not a sentence to feel bad.

Just be conscious,

Be mindful.

Just next to a stream I hope you enjoy the calming sounds and you can hear me well.

So I just wanted to say that when I talk about feeling your emotions and that you're supposed to feel your emotions,

And you're not supposed to feel bad but you're supposed to feel your emotions,

Right?

That can kind of sound a bit like I know better than you or I've got life more figured out than you and I'm telling you what to do.

But it's not really about that.

For me it's been such a revelation and such a process to actually get in touch with my emotions that I just want to share that with you and give you this angle that I've found really useful for myself as someone who's always suppressed their emotions because part of my trauma has been to do that.

So when I say just feel your emotions,

Get out of your familiar zone of feeling bad,

Being addicted to your emotions,

I don't say that because I think I'm better.

I just say that to give you a nudge,

A nudge of awareness if you're ready for it.

And that's all.

I'm recording more of these outdoors reflections and I realize the sound quality might not be as good as my other recordings on Insight Timer.

And the focus for me is definitely on creating high quality meditations and podcasts or whatever.

But I'm adding a few of these in the mix that are just inspired by nature.

And if there's some ruffling of jackets like this or some footsteps like this or a stream in the background of water,

Which might be quite calming,

Then I hope you're okay with that.

Yes,please keep these occasional nature reflections in the mix. You’re right - the sound quality isn’t that great but it adds a certain raw beauty to it all. Your voice is wonderful regardless.

I was not allowed to express my emotions since childhood and that has held true until this day. I have a small family and small circle of friends and no one ever seems to care about my emotions and how I feel. I’ve been working on this for a year or so now and will continue on.
