It's only when we close our eyes in Stillness, we can find what is really bothering us. In this guided meditation/contemplation, you will be guided to know the nature of the wandering thoughts which are happening in the deep mind and creating the hidden stress within. This is a practice which will help your mind to process the inner stress through developing insight into their origins.

In life,

Stress of the mind can develop when there are subconscious thoughts happening inside.

This can cause one to experience fatigue,

Anxiety and unhappiness.

In this practice,

We will learn how we can use meditation to uncover these subconscious thoughts,

And learn how to understand why they are there and how we have been creating them in life.

So when you are ready,

Please find a comfortable place to sit and close your eyes.

You can sit on the floor or on a chair.

Keep your eyes closed throughout the meditation.

Keep your back straight,

But not too tense.

Relax the shoulders.

Rest your hands on the lap and breathe through the nose.

Begin to observe the breath coming in and out of the nostrils.

Become aware of the sensations of the air coming in and out.

Try not to control the breath.

Simply allow it to happen naturally.

Try not to attempt to think in this practice.

All you have to do is to simply observe the breath.

Just observe the breath in silence.

As you do this,

You will start to become aware of the subconscious thoughts surfacing one by one.

When this happens,

Pull yourself back to the breath again.

Keep on observing the breath for at least a few minutes to uncover your subconscious thoughts,

And even longer if you wish to allow even deeper thoughts to surface.

So pause this talk now and begin observing the breath for as long as you wish.

It can be a few minutes,

Even an hour.

Then resume this talk once you're ready to learn more about your experience.

Welcome back.

Continue to observe the breath as I guide you to understand about your experience.

When the mind is still,

The mind is not stressed.

Through the act of trying to be still,

It helps us to become aware of the unstillness within.

The clues to our hidden stress can be found through the wandering thoughts that we experienced in the meditation.

Realize wandering thoughts are caused by the unresolved issues of the mind.

So if we have experienced wandering thoughts,

We can use them as clues to find the cause of our mental stress.

What type of wandering thoughts did you experience in the meditation?

Let us use this time to contemplate and reflect upon our experience.

Try to remember some of the wandering thoughts you experienced.

Was there a theme to your wandering thoughts?

Was there thoughts to do with work?

Was there thoughts to do with a problem?

Was there thoughts to do with the past?

Was there thoughts to do with the future?

Was there to do with your fears?

Was there to do with your desires?

Was there thoughts to do about happy things?

Was there thoughts about unhappy things?

Was there thoughts about people?

Just take your time and use the next few breaths to contemplate about your experience.

Realize that through this meditation,

You are just becoming aware of the thoughts that are happening in the deeper mind.

These are thoughts that you have been subconsciously dwelling in,

Causing you stress in the background.

Use the next few breaths to contemplate on the following questions.

Why do I dwell on these thoughts just to make myself stressed and unhappy?

Do I really need to dwell on these thoughts?

What would happen if I don't think about these things?

It's time to understand where these wandering thoughts are from.

Let's look for the outer causes by asking the following question.

What activities have I been doing in life to generate these wandering thoughts?

After discovering the activities,

Realize that in life,

Just by doing these activities less,

It will help the mind to release these wandering thoughts.

Now let us look for the inner causes.

To discover the inner causes,

We look for the reactions behind the wandering thoughts.

Realize that whenever we react negatively,

Or with attachments to our life experiences,

It will create disturbances in the mind.

So to find the inner causes,

You can ask yourself the following questions.

What fears do I need to address to stop generating these wandering thoughts?

What outcomes am I afraid of?

Why is it important for me to have these thoughts?

What outcomes am I aiming for?

What attachments are there that is driving the wandering thoughts?

For instance,

What things do I need to happen?

What negativities,

For example,

Anger,

Impatience,

And so forth,

Are there that is driving the wandering thoughts?

What beliefs do I need to change for me to stop reacting with negativity or attachment?

It's okay if you find it difficult to find the inner causes to your wandering thoughts.

It does take time to know the inner self.

Self-knowing is a journey that can take years to cultivate,

But practice meditation every day,

And you will naturally know yourself more day by day.

If you want some guidance,

Feel free to leave your questions in the comments.

If you do discover some of your inner causes,

Realize it is then you can start to address the seed cause of your wandering thoughts,

By learning to transform your beliefs so that you can accept more in life.

The key to releasing all your fears,

All your negativities,

All your wandering thoughts,

Is through learning to accept all there is.

For when you're able to accept all there is,

To accept all kinds of people,

All kinds of situations,

All possibilities of yourself,

It is then your mind will no longer be bothered by anything.

Perfect! I saw the self-centered fear underlying the wandering of my mind. I also felt a little light come on when you said all I had to do was accept myself to transform these negativities. Thank you

Thank you, Jonny. A wonderful, reflective meditation. I found my thoughts centering mostly upon “getting things done,” with a good measure of impatience (which is really a form of fear) if I don’t check off everything on my “to-do” list. Underneath the fear is the sense of inner lack of not measuring up. This awareness will help me in going more with the flow of life, enjoy the “now” rather than projecting the future which can consume my everyday thinking. Namaste.

Excellent guidance on how to address wandering thoughts and to move beyond thoughts which are not productive or useful in the present. Good narration and soothing background music too.
