Hello and welcome to Affirmations for Releasing Perfectionism.

If you have a tendency toward perfectionism,

It's important to practice compassion as an antidote.

Perfectionism often develops as a way to keep us safe.

We learned along the way that in order to be mentally,

Emotionally,

Or physically safe,

We need to control ourselves and our environment.

We learned that over-functioning and performing were routes to safety.

We learned that our worth is tied to our productivity.

Now we're ready to unlearn.

Let's begin to untangle the web of perfectionistic thinking.

Let's release harsh and critical thoughts towards ourselves and towards others.

We'll begin by inviting internal safety and awareness.

If it feels okay to do so,

Allow your eyes to close or your gaze to soften.

Notice the rhythm of your inhale and exhale.

Notice how your breath supports you without needing to control it.

Allow your exhale to lengthen,

Maybe even adding a sigh with each breath out.

As we go through these affirmations,

I invite you to repeat them out loud,

Feeling the vibration of the words viscerally to support the meaning.

I am safe in my body.

I release perfectionism.

I no longer need to over-control in order to feel safe.

I trust myself.

My worth is not tied to my productivity.

I choose people and environments that support my ease,

Well-being,

And safety.

I do not need to perform or over-function.

I am free to make mistakes.

I allow myself the time and space to experiment and explore.

I won't lose myself or my relationships if I let go of control.

I examine myself with compassion.

I give others grace and permission to err.

I honor my needs and set expectations that are grounded in safety,

Not control.

It's not my job to fix others.

I look at myself,

Others,

And the world from a lens of what needs to be aligned,

Not as problems to be fixed.

I trust myself and others to make positive changes without any harsh or shame-based critiques.

I am safe to be in the gray area of life.

I release.

I realign.

I am okay.

Thank you for joining me in the ongoing practice of unlearning perfectionism.

Come back as often as is useful and take what resonates and leave the rest.

Let's reconnect to the breath once more to close the practice,

Taking three deep breaths.

The first deep breath to honor yourself for taking the time and space for this healing work.

Breathing in.

Breathing out.

The second breath to cement any takeaways from today's practice.

Breathing in.

Breathing out.

The third deep breath to awaken and open your eyes,

Reconnecting to the world around you through a fresh perspective.

Breathing in.

Breathing out.

Thank you.
