Hello and welcome to this week's Intermissions meditation.
When I asked my son this morning for an idea to meditate on,
His almost six-year-old self just intuitively knew,
Rest.
It was very insightful of him to recognize the importance of rest and it was a great opportunity for me to think about that more and how resting myself will improve my relationship with him.
When I'm able to calm and take care of myself,
I can take better care of those around me.
So we're going to move through the body today,
Inviting it to rest.
We're going to acknowledge the transition that is necessary to get to a grounded place to fully absorb that rest.
I've found myself in a hurry up and relax mode from time to time and I'm learning to find ways to incorporate meditation in just the minutes between my tasks.
So we're gonna allow for rest today and hopefully take those moments with us on our journey the rest of the day.
Let's begin with some deep breaths.
So take your awareness into your feet.
Invite your feet to fully rest on the floor where they lie.
Thank them for their service throughout your day.
Let each toe release into balance.
Let your heel give way to the peace and grounding available.
Tap into your ankles and let them go.
Check in with your calves,
The muscles,
Your connective tissue.
Even if you can't see it,
You can imagine it's there and send it restful energy.
Invite your shins to let go and to truly release.
Moving on to your knees,
Sending them gratitude and ease and rest.
What can you do for your knees today to help them to rest?
Send them gratitude and relaxing energies and peace.
Connecting to those beautiful knees are your thighs,
Your hard-working thighs.
Allow them to let go and to completely rest.
Sharing gratitude for your thighs,
Let them take up all the space that they need when they are fully at rest.
Inviting your hips now to rest and relax.
Feel the warm energy,
Feel the flow available to you in your hips.
Just move into your hips,
Giving them gratitude.
Appreciate everything they do for you each day.
And let them go.
Now we invite your belly to release.
You can fully rest in peace and harmony with your belly.
Allow for the roundness.
Allow for the deep belly breaths to take place.
Rest with the knowing that everything is going to be okay and you can let this belly go and take up all the space that it needs.
Wrap this restful feeling around to your back,
Sending abundant gratitude to your spine.
All the connective tissue,
The muscles,
The bones that support your structure,
Sending rest and relaxation all along your spine.
Your spine supports your rib cage that supports all of your major organs in your chest.
So much gratitude for the strength and structure of this hard working spine and chest.
Let it rest.
Inviting now your shoulders to share in this beautiful restful feeling you're creating.
You might start feeling some awesome blissful whispers in your chest,
In your neck,
In your whole body.
Take a moment to welcome that,
To enhance that,
And to swim in that flow.
Continuing with the shoulders,
Allowing them to rest.
So much manual labor in the arms and shoulders,
Hard-working shoulders that can rest now.
Sending them gratitude and relaxation and bliss.
Sending this restful feeling down your arms,
Through your elbows,
Through your forearms,
And resting in your hands.
So much expression communicated through these hands.
So much flow.
So much becomes accessible through your hands.
Send your gratitude to your hands for all that they do for you today.
Invite them to rest.
Take this rest.
Take this bliss and this flow and this freedom and allow it to travel now up to your neck,
Swirling around,
Gently inviting the neck to let go.
This beautiful passageway from the brain to the rest of the body,
Carrying messages that take you through your day.
The body's superhighway.
Sending gratitude to this neck,
This gateway,
Allowing it to let go and to rest.
And finally continuing this restful sense up through the head,
Moving up the back of the head,
Sending ribbons of rest and relaxation around the scalp,
Appreciating the fluidity and the freedom that rest provides.
Letting go welcomes in peace and new opportunities and gratitude.
Follow each ribbon around the head,
Connecting to the face,
Your forehead,
Your eyebrows,
Your cheekbones,
Your jawline,
Your chin,
Lips,
Nostrils,
And back up through the center of the forehead and rest here.
Coming back to your body,
Coming back from your beautiful rest.
Wiggle your toes,
Wiggle your fingers,
Maintaining the bliss that you've created.
Acknowledge the transition that you require to come back gently.
Take your time to reacquaint yourself with the present moment,
Sending yourself abundant gratitude for this time today.
Take time to find meditative moments throughout your day.
See where you can find more rest between each task,
Sending you rest and gratitude and bliss.
Namaste.
