In session 22 we see that it takes awareness of that which prevents our light and ease along with conscious choices toward our upliftment as we endeavor to leave limitation behind. This meditation includes an uplifting affirmation practice. The Spiritual Recalibration Series is designed to help you expand your awareness into a new, more open, curious and expansive way of being in daily life. This impactful series comprises 33 sessions, each with a short topic (the recalibration) followed by guided meditation. Meditations include affirmations, visualizations, and brief periods of quiet, musical stillness.

Okay,

Welcome back to the Spiritual Recalibration Series.

Thank you for embarking on this series and opening yourself to a new way of being.

My name is David,

And this is Session 22,

How You Lighten Up.

Find a comfortable seat in a space where you can allow yourself 20 minutes or so,

Undistracted,

To focus just on you.

A quick reminder,

To get the most out of this series,

Please be sure you've listened to the Welcome Session,

Session Zero.

Here we go.

And I'm just going to,

What came up with this idea of,

You know,

Has anyone ever told you just lighten up?

It's almost like a,

It's almost like a command,

Like you need to lighten up.

And you say that even probably even more so you say to yourself,

Man,

I need to lighten up.

How do you do that?

It's a thing,

Like this is another one of those things that makes a good bumper sticker or a,

Or a,

Or a coaster.

But it's,

It's always in the how,

It's in the practice.

So I thought I'd,

This was,

And of course,

This came and I was out for a walk with my wife and that's this thing about lightening up,

Came up.

And so I started,

Started thinking about the how,

And I guess,

And the way it came up for me to,

To chat with you is to,

To,

To kind of hit it on three ways,

Kind of that three-legged stool,

Right?

Mind,

Body,

Spirit.

So at starting with the body though.

And so at the body level,

Just we were talking about this,

Just,

Just,

You know,

And,

And,

You know,

At the time right now here where we are,

It's summertime and,

And,

But this would apply to,

You know,

Any time of year,

But,

You know,

Here now in the,

In the summertime the weather's warm and just drinking tons of water.

So at the,

At the physiological level,

We are,

I don't know what the percentage is,

But most of the water,

Right?

So just doing just a ton of water.

I was drinking,

I don't know,

I was noticing this a few months ago,

Really,

Really focusing on my water and my water intake.

And I was reading somewhere that we could stand to drink as much as 10 glasses a day of water.

So there's that.

And then the idea of,

You know,

And what else do you drink,

You know,

Are you,

Are you relying?

So I,

Several years ago,

I,

I quit drinking coffee and this is,

So,

You know,

Are you just kind of having a look at that?

Are you,

Are you relying on,

On caffeine for your,

For your energy?

And I'm kind of getting,

Getting curious about that because,

You know,

Your,

Your energy is infinite.

My naturopathic doctor years ago when I was seeing him for digestive stuff,

He,

I think he called it pretend energy,

Caffeine and stimulants and stuff like that.

Like you're,

You're,

You have all the energy that you need.

So just seeing how,

Seeing how that feels in you.

And then on the,

Also on the body level,

Just what you're eating,

Like,

You know,

I mean,

This time of year,

I mean,

This probably isn't the time for comfort food,

Right?

This probably isn't the time for,

You know,

Mashed potatoes and,

You know,

And that,

You know,

That the kind of that traditional Thanksgiving stuff I made,

I,

This came up to talk about this on the,

On the physiological level,

On the body level came up because two nights ago I opened a mango.

I don't eat a ton of fruit generally.

That's just me.

But this really feels like the time for like fresh fruits and vegetables.

Right.

So I,

I,

I made a,

I cut into a mango and I was making a mango salsa and I just felt really fresh,

Really fresh and light.

So I guess the thing is to kind of get curious,

You know,

At the body level,

What can you do?

What can you eat?

What can you drink?

What can you maybe not eat,

Not drink to help you feel lighter in the body.

And also it's kind of a time to,

And this kind of moves into now into the mind part of it.

Maybe I've been clearing some things out down in my basement,

Just kind of clearing space,

Clearing physical space can help you feel light,

Feel lighter in the mind.

You know,

Is there some,

Are you getting rid of some clutter,

Are you cleaning some stuff out,

Cleaning out your garage or your cellar or your attic or space where you spend a lot of time?

Another way that came up in the mind to help us feel lighter in the mind was we talked about this recently was drama,

Drama.

So it seems like there's like being light or lightness has two opposite words and language,

Right?

Like the opposite of light is dark,

But the opposite of light is also heavy.

So like,

And drama,

Whenever we're in drama,

There's just something going on that we wish were different.

That person was different.

You know,

We're really in most of the time that drama is just,

You know,

In our head,

Right?

I mean,

If we want to lighten up,

We can have a look at kind of what sort of drama are we invested in?

And and of course the thing with drama,

You know,

The shift from drama is,

As I say,

You know,

In the conscious leadership stuff is taking responsibility.

So just knowing that this thing,

Whatever the circumstances,

Whatever,

Whether it's the weather,

The world,

The politics,

My partner,

My kids,

Me,

Whatever it is that we want to be different.

That's where we get into drama that we think should be different.

We have a choice there.

We think we don't.

We give our power away and think that we're at the effect of,

You know,

This thing that just can't be changed.

So we have a choice to take responsibility as it's called,

Right?

But responsibility,

We have a choice to experience whatever this is in the way we want to experience it.

So this thing that's happening that we wish were different,

It's happening.

It is.

So can we accept it?

And can we now say,

How do I want to experience this?

And get curious about maybe,

Maybe how is this,

How is this,

How is this okay?

Or how is this for me?

And that kind of shifts into the third leg of the stool,

That spirit,

The mind,

Body,

Spirit.

And you can think of kind of whenever we talk about this stuff,

This aspect,

This third leg,

You can think about this in whatever way feels meaningful or real to you.

So spirit is a word.

Love is a word.

God is a word.

In science,

It's the energy of the quantum field,

Right?

Or maybe another way to think about this is just your own personal highest potential.

It's the other.

Whatever this thing that's going on that's maybe beyond me,

Beyond myself.

And you know,

It's unique to an individual,

You know,

The extent to which you're curious about that.

But in any case,

You know,

Whatever word is comfortable for you,

Or to whatever extent you're curious.

It seems to me to be light,

And the word playful comes up too,

And to be light and playful starts from a place of,

I mean,

It starts with trust.

And that kind of circles right back to what we were just talking about,

And getting curious,

How is this for me?

And when you ask the question,

How might this be for me?

That comes from a place of trust.

Was it Einstein who talked about the benevolence of the universe?

And in the,

I think it was the beginning of the movie,

The Secret,

Or I saw it somewhere where either everything is a miracle or nothing is.

I'm just throwing quotes at you now,

Golly.

Well,

But the last one that comes up in the circles back to trust is,

I was reading just the other night.

If you knew,

I'm going to butcher this,

But if you knew who it was that walked next to you,

You'd never be afraid.

And that felt good to me as far as just that,

You know,

That trust at the other level in however way you want to conceptualize that.

So yeah,

It seems like that foundation,

That grounding in,

In the all as well,

That's another way I think to think about this in it's several words,

You know,

It's a couple words altogether in the all as well,

But when we're grounded in the all as well,

It's a lot easier to be light.

So we're going to do one of,

I think this is a familiar affirmation to practice this because another way,

Like you're circling back to drama to be light is,

You know,

If you find yourself in drama,

You know,

You ask the question,

You know,

You make a choice in how you want to experience this.

But another way is,

Is look for a way to be helpful.

That's kind of my default.

How can I be helpful?

Who can I do something kind for?

How can I be this light for others?

So we'll do this,

A familiar affirmation about the lighthouse.

So if you'd like for our last few minutes here to get your,

Get your feet firmly on the floor,

If that's comfortable for you,

If you're sitting in a chair so you can sit with a nice upright spine,

Getting a little towel or something rolled up in your low back.

If you're sitting in a chair with a back,

Sometimes that can be helpful to sit with a nice upright spine.

So your energy is drawn upward,

Can place your hands on your thighs at the juncture of thighs and abdomen,

Or a little bit further forward.

That's more comfortable for you.

Palms up or palms down.

Take an intentional inhale through your nose and exhale through your nose.

You can tune into the words of this affirmation,

This familiar one about the lighthouse.

I am a lighthouse,

A bright shining beacon of pure hope and joy.

Effortlessly,

My smile reflects the luminous glow of love.

We'll do this a few times.

And as the words become familiar,

If you begin to memorize them,

You're welcome to say them out loud.

You just want to say them in a regular speaking voice.

I am a lighthouse,

A bright shining beacon of pure hope and joy.

Effortlessly,

My smile reflects the luminous glow of love.

I am a lighthouse,

A bright shining beacon of pure hope and joy.

Effortlessly,

My smile reflects the luminous glow of love.

Tuning into the feeling behind these words,

Feeling them.

Now if you're saying it out loud,

Just in a whisper.

I am a lighthouse,

A bright shining beacon of pure hope and joy.

Effortlessly,

My smile reflects the luminous glow of love.

And now two times just following along in your mind.

Allowing the words to stay for just a moment or two.

Good.

Letting go of the words now,

But staying with the feeling behind them.

Feeling who you are at your essence,

This beacon,

The light within you.

Coming into your breath now.

Beginning to watch your breath.

See if you can find the spot in your nostrils where you can feel the air passing.

Cool on the inhale,

Warm on the exhale.

Concentrating now on the breath for just a few moments.

Notice your thinking,

Come back to your breath.

Good.

Notice your thinking,

Come back to your breath.

Now,

Take an intentional inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth.

You can let the breath go,

You don't need to watch it anymore.

Allow yourself to stay here for just a few more moments.

In this space of peace,

Whatever peace you have worked to create over this past bit of time,

Allow yourself to be there,

Here,

In a peaceful space.

Beautiful.

Now,

Take a normal breath in and out.

Prepare to come back to the space where you are.

And when you're ready,

You can flutter open your eyelids,

Or you're welcome to stay here for as long as you like.
