Do Thoughts Really Become Things?
by Lauri Albert
We’ve heard that ‘Thoughts Become Things’ but let’s teach ourselves how to truly put the act of thinking positively into play in our lives! My dear friend, Pierre Bensusan, has permitted me to use his track called ‘Sentimentales Pyromaniaques’ from the album 'Altiplanos.'

Welcome to In the Flow with Laurie Albert,
A brief,
Positivity-inspiring chat and meditation designed to uplift and motivate us to live our best lives.
Let's get in the flow.
So obviously lately with the release of my book and stuff,
I've been getting like a ton of questions about manifesting happiness and satisfaction and joy,
You know.
But for some reason,
I think today is a great day to start considering the role that releasing our past has in creating true happiness in our lives.
Okay.
Let's just go down memory lane for a few minutes.
Right.
Okay.
Way back when,
Or maybe last week,
I don't know.
Right.
You had a boyfriend or girlfriend.
Okay.
And it started out rosy and beautiful and like everything was perfect.
You were in love,
Blah,
Blah,
Blah.
Right.
Then all of a sudden said boyfriend or girlfriend starts acting a little funny.
And you notice it.
Right.
And you find out that that person is cheating on you.
This is way back when.
Okay.
Now,
If you've never had to deal with this before,
You go to a place in your head,
Consciously or unconsciously,
You go to this place of what is wrong with me or what did I do to make this happen?
Or I guess I'm not worthy of someone who loves me unconditionally.
Okay.
Not great feelings.
Right.
Okay.
So then life continues on.
You get another boyfriend or girlfriend.
And in the back of your head,
You remember what happened.
And in your head,
This attitude of non-trust is there.
It's right there.
And the thought of whether it's conscious or subconscious,
They're going to cheat on me is present.
Now,
You may not think it like all the time,
But there's a little twinge of something that's there.
Right.
They're going to cheat on me.
Right.
So now,
This is where it gets extremely interesting in my head anyway.
Right.
In terms of the law of attraction,
What we concentrate on is what we call into our lives.
Okay.
And we start to live into that story that we've created in our lives.
Right.
That story could be that we always get cheated on.
You know,
I mean,
It's in there.
It's not something you think about every day.
Right.
But it's there.
Right.
Okay.
And then guess what happens?
You get cheated on again.
So that is an example.
You know,
Some might think it's extreme,
But it's real.
It's like a real example.
Right.
It happens.
What we concentrate on is what is called into our existence,
Our being.
What we concentrate on.
So,
You know the phrase,
Or maybe you don't know the phrase.
I love this phrase.
Thoughts become things.
Now,
I had to include that because when I was just starting to get into the law of attraction and stuff,
I saw the movie The Secret.
Right.
And Bob Proctor is,
I can hear his voice saying,
Thoughts become things.
Right.
Now,
He just passed away.
So he's on my brain.
Right.
Because I just,
He was like a father figure that was like,
Thoughts become things,
You know.
And so it's like,
Oh,
Okay.
You know,
That sort of thing.
I just thought the world of him.
But anyway,
Thoughts become things.
Whether they're good things or bad things.
Right.
Thoughts become things.
Okay.
Now,
This is why affirmations and keeping a practice of gratitude is so important in manifesting whatever you want out of your life.
Now,
To further that thought,
These practices of gratitude and appreciation are about staying in the present moment.
I hope you're following me.
Right.
Keeping affirmations and gratitude at the forefront of our minds keeps us at a place where the things that happened in the past don't and won't affect our present and future.
Right.
So if we stay in the present moment,
If we stay in that place of gratitude for everything that's happening in our lives,
It'll push out.
It'll override.
Right.
If you want to talk about like,
In terms of that,
Right.
It'll override those thoughts of unworthiness and all those negative thoughts.
Right.
So now,
Going back to the example of your boyfriend or girlfriend that cheated.
Okay.
As we keep thoughts of happiness and joy and gratitude in our lives,
We also begin then to understand that we deserve it all.
We deserve it.
You deserve to be happy.
You deserve an amazing partner.
You deserve joy.
You do.
Now,
How many of you are thinking to yourself,
Yeah,
But I don't have it.
How many of you are thinking to yourself,
Do I really deserve it?
Those feelings of unworthiness,
If we continue on with a practice of gratitude and staying in the present moment,
Those thoughts of unworthiness begin to fade from who we are,
And then we begin to invite in a committed,
Loving partner.
Right.
In terms of that example,
That's what we invite in.
A committed,
Loving partner.
See how all this works?
Isn't it awesome?
I mean,
Seriously,
I could talk about this all day long and how it's changed my life and how it will change yours.
That's why I wrote a book on manifesting,
Because that's like that's what I'm into.
I could talk about this all day long.
I've been into it for many years now.
I'm not perfect.
There are days when I think,
Oh,
Really?
My life,
Whatever.
You know,
I mean,
We all have days.
We all have days.
The trick is to just pick yourself up by the bootstraps and move forward again.
Get yourself,
You know,
Allow yourself to sit in that negative moment for just a second.
Acknowledge it because it's there.
And then move on.
Get past that and move on to a place of gratitude.
It's a practice.
You have to work at it.
You can't.
There's no quick fix to this stuff.
I'm sorry to say it that way,
But but you know,
There really isn't a quick fix.
We work at this every day.
I have been doing gratitude daily.
For a long time.
And you can too.
I've got the best mantra for today.
Affirmation mantra,
Whatever you want to call it.
Right.
So let's get ourselves comfy.
We're going to meditate on this.
We're going to think this through and we're going to create.
We're going to have this affirmation playing in our head all day long.
Oh,
Yay.
All right.
So let's close our eyes.
This isn't going to be like a deep meditation,
But it's going to be an affirmation.
That we're going to repeat and repeat and repeat.
So let's take a deep breath in.
Release.
Perfect.
I remember as I was younger and in one of my sort of self-help courses that I took and everything.
Somebody saying,
You know,
Right now there's nothing wrong here.
Right here,
Right now.
There's nothing wrong.
Right now,
We are sitting with our eyes closed,
Getting ready to meditate and sit in the stillness.
There is nothing wrong right here,
Right now.
So what are you grateful for today?
What is just a few things that you're so grateful for?
And again,
You guys know it could be anything.
I am grateful that I fixed my coffee maker.
I'm very,
Very grateful for that.
I'm grateful for friendship.
So our mantra for today.
My past does not control me.
I live in the present moment with gratitude and joy.
My past does not control me.
I live in the present moment with gratitude and joy.
My past does not control me.
I live in the present moment with gratitude and joy.
So now,
As we repeat this to ourselves for just a few minutes that we're going to sit here.
Start to really create the intention of this affirmation coming into your being.
My past does not control me.
I live in the present moment with gratitude and joy.
My past does not control me.
I live in the present moment with gratitude and joy.
I am grateful for my past.
My past does not control me.
I live in the present moment with gratitude and joy.
My past does not control me.
I live in the present moment with gratitude and joy.
Let's start bringing our awareness back to the body.
Feeling that gratitude take hold in our hearts.
Let's take a deep breath in and release.
Namaste.
