Hello and welcome to five minutes in nature with me Liz Scott on a beautiful moonlit night.
I've come out and over the last couple of days you know I've had a dog or I've been looking after a dog and tonight I just thought you know I know it's nighttime I know it's cold outside I just fancy getting out even though I haven't got a dog and going for a walk and I've bumped into a couple of dog walkers out walking and it's just such a beautiful moonlit night it feels very very special and today I want to just share something which struck me today and it's about learning at your own pace.
Now one of the things as a teacher here on Insight Timer one of the ways I teach is I want to share something that is profoundly transformational and also to explain that I'm human and for me there is an extraordinary beauty in the dance between being human and understanding something profound about my true nature.
So what I share on Insight Timer is fundamentally that deeply we are all connected to the oneness of life the energy behind life we are that creative energy taking form in the world that is what we are that everything we look at everything I'm looking at in this moonlit night the trees the houses the wall the shrubs the grass everything that I can see in this very dim light it's all connected we're all connected we're all made of the same stuff everything is and this energy is the best way we can describe it is that it is a loving wise compassionate energy and the other thing that I deeply know is that I'm human I have the gift of thought and the power of thought to create stories that distract me and make me forget that I am actually deeply connected to the wisdom of life itself and as I undertake my journey as a teacher I'm here to share that with you to share both the fact that we are all of us connected we are all of this same energy and we're and a lot of what we do as human beings is when we're on a spiritual path is we think we need to be spiritual all the time I don't see it like that at all because when people look to be spiritual all the time they're looking to always be present always be calm always be connected to that meditative calm space but for me that's that's not what we're here for we're here to be human we are here to have a human experience so my teaching is very much not about how do I stay calm and how do I stay present and how do I stay in the now all the time because I don't see that that's what this is about what I see is that we've been given this gift to have a human experience and that human experience has got a vast range of emotions and feelings some which we classify as good and some which we classify as bad or negative but we're designed to feel it all and when you lose yourself in the human experience it's scary but it's only scary if you forget the one thing that is the most important thing and the most important thing is a realization that you are the energy of life itself you are connected to this energy of life itself so today is just a reminder that it's okay to get lost in the thoughts and feelings of being human there's nothing wrong with it and what I advocate is that you keep looking within to that deeply spiritual settled space within you that space of awareness and presence because when you realize that you are the energy of life itself and you are also human life isn't scary but the key is just to remember that we are deeply anchored to something that is profoundly wise kind and loving that is our true nature that is who we truly are and sometimes we forget because we're human so for me on this human journey I forget and I remember and I forget and I remember there's nothing to fix there's nothing to change it's just bringing myself and my awareness back to who I truly am and taking the next step as a human being I am flawed as a human being but as the energy and spirit of life itself I am perfect and so I can be both perfect and flawed and so can you and there's nothing you need to fix
