As Liz continues to sit with the phrase “making a stand for love,” she realises it is a powerful place from which to live. In her daily Five Minutes in Nature reflections, she contemplates how actions naturally unfold when she stands in love. And she invites you to consider: what does it mean for you to make a stand for love?

Hello and welcome to Five Minutes in Nature with me Liz Scott.

Still standing on the edge of a burial cairn called Cuckoo Ball on Dartmoor and the sun is sinking behind me as I'm overlooking this wonderful vista of a little stream valley that is below me and then up to the hillside of Eastern Beacon and the sky which is fairly blue still at the moment enjoying just watching the last remnants of people as a horse rider I've seen out and about just enjoying this dry beautiful day in January and yesterday I was talking about the power of a phrase I'd heard making a stand for love and in the context of feeling quite helpless sometimes in what I experience in the news cycle and what I see going on in the world when my friend said this phrase making a stand for love there was something that really resonated for me and that's what I want to talk about today is well what does it mean to make a stand for love and one of the things I've realized for me and I'd love your feedback on this for you but for me making a stand for love can mean so many things making a stand for love we had a friend come and visit us the other day and he is a little bit troubled and he stayed overnight and so making a stand for love in his presence was I really looked out for him and I really saw him and I made sure that he was comfortable and nourished and looked after so in that instance making a stand for love was that making a stand for love might be taking my neighbor's dog out for a walk when my neighbor feels that she's unable to find a dog walker or find a way of actually supporting her dog during the day it's like I can help you take your dog out for a walk that's me making a stand for love making a stand for love is seeing someone who is finding life a little bit tricky and just being present with them it's not about trying to find solutions or fix them or try to make them feel better but it's honoring who they truly are and as I'm speaking with you now I can see that making a stand for love is is looking through all the fluff the the gumpf the rubbish the darkness that covers people over that consumes them it's having eyes that can laser-like look through all of that additional stuff and see the truth of who they are and to speak to that making a stand for love is about bringing my attention back to that place within me that place of love making a stand for love is quite literally in my world standing in that place of love within me and then viewing the world from that place it's like a rock solid place to see the world that is making a stand for love and it can turn up in so many different ways but making a stand for love is making an acknowledgement a choice bringing your awareness back to love when the temptation might be to get lost in thinking or concern or anxiety or worry and making a stand for love is also being that steadfast place for somebody when they feel a bit wobbly themselves and knowing that they will be a steadfast place for you when you feel wobbly so making a stand for love is about realizing there'll be times when you I don't feel as though I am standing strongly in that place of love and recognizing that there are others around me who have my interests at heart and will endeavor to have me not fall over so as they stand in their place of love they they look out for me they help me balance for me this is a really powerful reflection it's moved me actually quite deeply making a stand for love and I would just love to know what that feels like for you as you hear that phrase what that means for you what does making a stand for love mean and making a stand for love often for me just means being in that place of love as opposed to taking any particular kind of action it's being in that place of love and then seeing what my wisdom is guiding me to do in the moment that is what it is to make a stand for love

As Brandy noted in an earlier post, I, too, was thinking about the Buddhist monks on their Walk for Peace across 2300 miles of the US. Making a stand for love, to me is living in accord with their simple but profound affirmation, “Today is going to be my peaceful day.” Making a stand for love - seeing with eyes of kindness and compassion and choosing words and actions from that place in any moment - is what will bring peace to ourselves, our families and our community. Thank you, Liz, for sharing your insights through your daily walks and meditations - they are thought provoking and inspiring for me.

Making a stand for love to me is the same as "be kind, always". Trying to do the best you can in each given moment with the tools you've been dealt. Love both for yourself and for others.

I try to always be in a place of love, to have presence in love. To radiate love. And that manifests as acts of kindness. Including just listening without action. I’m still practicing! 💜

From my perspective what you put out, here on IT is also ‘making a stand for love’. The time I spend sitting here each morning allows me the space and reminds me of what is true, so I am able to ‘make a stand for love’ / interact in my sphere from a place of truth. So thank you Liz. 😊

Today it means keeping moving and nit giving up when my body is not feeling great! I recognise my Dad's giving up tendance when faced with a physical challenge and for me making a stand for love is not falling into the belief that I might be the same!!
