The focus of the meditation ‘Wishes for others’ is to answer the question: “What did I do last year for others?”. 'Others' refers to the people around you and those you know. You’ll tune into your breath, the sensations in your body and reflect on how it made you feel to take care of others. You’ll also evaluate whether the giving & receiving is in balance. This self-inquiry exercise is part of the journal 'Goodbye Old. Hello New.’ which is written by Marianne de Kuyper.

Hello and welcome to goodbye old,

Hello new and in this meditation we will reflect on the topic of others and we will look at what you've done for the people around you,

The people you know and how this made you feel.

So I would say go and make yourself comfortable,

Find a comfortable seat and then let's tune into the breath in the body so we can arrive in the body and in this moment and let's reflect on others,

The people that you know,

The people around you and then the question for you today is what did you do for others in the last year and then how did this make you feel?

So think about it,

What have you done for the people around you?

How have they perhaps responded and how did it feel for you to help the people around you,

To support them,

To assist them,

To be there for them and in case you have the impression that you maybe didn't do anything for other people,

What had you wanted to do?

What could you have done where you didn't take the opportunity to support the people around you and would you maybe want to do things differently in the coming year?

And you could also actually turn it around,

What have other people done for you in the last year and how did it feel to receive this support?

How did it feel to receive their help and is there something that you did in return or would still like to do?

So listen and notice anything that come up,

Notice anything that can come up and it's all about noticing,

Reflecting on things that you have done for other people or that other people have done for you and notice any feelings that will come up,

Any thoughts,

Any wishes,

Any regrets and also think about it for the coming year,

What could you do more of in the next year,

Not only for yourself but also for the people around you that's by giving and receiving,

What could you give to other people and what would you like to receive?

And then stay with that thought,

Feel free to rephrase it,

So giving and receiving,

Giving and receiving,

Do you feel that there is a proper balance into what you give to the world,

To the people around you and to what you're receiving from the people around you?

And then perhaps just stay here a little longer,

Take time for the topic of today,

Reflecting on what you have been able to do for the people around you and what you've been able to receive from the people around you and then you also decide when it's enough,

So when you feel you've done enough thinking for today,

Enough feeling and noticing,

Then tune into the breath again,

Let the question be,

Notice the breath again and then take three more deep breaths in and out to close the meditation and then when you've done that and you're ready,

You open up your eyes and you quietly move into the rest of your day.
