This mini course is an introduction to the pain management model, with practice sessions to help you to apply what you learn within your own life. You will learn what pain sensations are, the purpose they serve, and how you can reprogramme your unconscious mind to share with you the information you need without resorting to pain signals. This course is aimed at those suffering from chronic pain, and should be used in conjunction with appropriate medical advice and treatment. Where the physiological cause of the pain is not known, please do investigate with the aid of medical specialists - it might save your life! Supplemental practices are available for certain specific and common types of pain.


Meet your Teacher

Keziah Gibbons is a beloved teacher here on Insight Timer, a certified Trainer of NLP, a Reiki Master, and an expert in mindfulness and unconscious work. She first described and tested this pain management model as part of her NLP Master Practitioner training in 2014. Keziah lives with chronic illness and physical disability, and has applied the pain management model in her own life to reduce pain and have more freedom in her life. Keziah is from Jorvik in Brigantia in the North of England.

Introducing The Pain Management Model

In this session, you’ll learn the fundamentals of the pain management model. Understand what pain is, the reasons behind pain, and how you can work together with your mind and body to release pain. You’ll also learn about how and why the practices work, and how and when to use them.

Lesson 2

Applying The Model: Daily Practice

This is your daily guided practice which will support you in collaborating with your unconscious mind to reprogramme those aversive sensations. Once the cause of the sensations has been dealt with, you no longer need to receive those messages in the same way and so it's quite safe to create a comfortable experience for yourself.

Lesson 3

Responding In The Moment: SOS Practice

Today’s practice helps your mind to find a softer, gentler and more comfortable interpretation, sending the message back via the brain that you can relax and you may even let go of any aversive sensations. You can use this practice any time you need it, and you may find that you are able to take some of the tools used and apply them yourself as you’re out and about.

I've been on this mind body journey for almost a year now. I learned then that my chronic migraine, fibromyalgia, insomnia, and tinnitus could be helped or eliminated with practices that would rewire my brain circuits to not cause pain when triggers arise. I found that my neuroplastic symptoms were caused by years of anxiety and stress and a few traumatic experiences such as my husband's passing from cancer at 66. I learned that it's not a straight road and that this journey can take time for most. I have been working with the tools learned such as journaling, meditation, listening to podcasts and reading about MBS info and stories of success. My mindset as a result has become much more positive and I have found some relief from symptoms, although I am still a work in progress and always open to new tools to use. Since early summer I have begun a more spiritual approach to my growth in this "human experience". I am trying to live "in the Now" and learning to accept and notice the chatter coming in, but just to be aware and then let it pass by and out. I'm trying to clean out the negative stories which have built up inside over my lifetime. I want to uncover my buried true self and let it shine! I appreciate your course and will certainly use lesson 2's meditation in my daily practice! I so appreciate you and all of the teachers here who have taught me so much! ❤️
