I often write,

In closing my daily journals,

In you I move and breathe and have my being.

This you the verse speaks to,

What is it?

Not a she or a he,

Not a thing,

Nothing of sight at all.

It's a force,

An energy,

A pulse that's weaving through everything,

All earth,

All bodies,

All structures,

Every cell of creation,

Much beyond the sighted eye.

I repeat this line in my journals out of a reverence for a place in myself that holds host to this universal energy that is always there,

Always good,

Always true,

And always working.

I'm often frightened of the desires and hopes I possess.

Is my strength such that I can bring them about?

These grand ideas,

These rich visions and scenes,

I'm tired of zeal.

I have no interest in entertaining naivete.

I want truth.

Serious about thought,

But playful about life.

This is a gift then,

A package each of us can open,

Revealing the layers of divinity.

Looking at Tarot,

The Two of Pentacles,

It's always intrigued me.

It's perhaps my favorite card.

It represents to me harmony,

Balance,

Balance,

Acceptance.

It is that seriousness and playfulness between heaven and earth,

Between low and high,

Between right and left,

Earth and sky,

Inside and outside,

Naivete and wisdom.

And on this card,

They're held in this harmony by infinity,

Forever,

All existence.

Two discs intertwined by a cord holding them steadily in harmony.

This dancing,

Playing figure typifies the naivete of the fool,

Yet so balanced with wisdom.

For the artist to express yourself,

Your deepest self,

It's necessary to intertwine this talent of expression,

This wisdom,

Alongside a playfulness of exploration.

This is the ultimate balance of life.

Energy,

Harmony,

Playfulness,

Fruitfulness,

Connection,

Virility,

Supply.

Serious about God,

Playful about life.

So a prayer for today,

If you will.

Not to a religious God,

But to the best sense of soul,

Of connection,

Connective force that is life in all things.

You trust me with this gift,

Life,

These talents that pulse in my veins.

I hold them and believe in them and use my strength to keep moving in the world I have created and still yet create to the best of these gifts and talents you've supplied.

Help me take up this paintbrush and create the world you share with me,

That you show to me,

So that others,

Too,

Can see the world you have shown them and they,

Too,

Become courageous enough to trust the talents they hold in their own two hands.
