If we think about our connection to ourselves it's really about coming back to the awareness of our essence,

Our being and we lose it when we are living our lives,

We forget about it and mostly because emotions,

Concepts,

Mental concepts,

Stories all these ideas separate us from our essence or you can say it doesn't separate us but it makes us forget about our essence.

So what do we do?

I would say the biggest test or the biggest criteria of how well we are doing with our connection to ourselves is not only when we are trying to meditate but during the times when we feel big catalysts in our lives.

When I say catalysts mean big overwhelming emotions or opportunities,

Stories,

Whatever comes up in life,

Those are the times when we forget about ourselves the most,

Our connection to ourselves and those times could be either positive or negative.

So I'm sure you can recall a time when you were super super sad or when you were super super happy.

In both of these times there was an overwhelming sense of emotion and so no matter what direction it was in like it could be upward or could be downward but nevertheless there was a highly charged moment energy and in that moment you may have forgotten about your essence,

The stillness within and that's when we forget.

And that is why it's so important to keep that connection,

To keep that remembrance to ourselves not only when we're feeling down but also when we're feeling so high.

When we are happy or maybe celebrating something,

A good news,

Other people coming to your life and you're having a good time with them.

Or maybe the opposite of that when you're feeling lonely,

When you're depressed,

When you're down at the bottom,

Feeling sad because of a loss.

You see,

These are the two moments when we forget.

So my reminder to you today is how much can you stay connected to yourself in all these scenarios.

Feeling super good?

Sure,

Be happy,

Celebrate but then come back to stillness.

If you don't train yourself to be still in those moments then you're losing your ground and you're not training yourself,

You're not mastering yourself to stay connected.

Because it's easy to feel connected when you meditate,

When you sit down to meditate but it's not so easy when you're emotionally overwhelmed or with thoughts also,

Stories,

Concepts.

And the same goes when you're feeling down.

Instead of feeling lost in that swamp,

Can you come back to the inner stillness which is unaffected by any emotion,

Any thought,

Just your awareness,

Your presence,

Your beingness,

Your essence.

That's what I'm talking about.

Can you come back to that which is still in you always no matter what's happening in your life.

And if you can do that then no matter what happens in life,

Good or bad,

You have a sense of calmness,

Sense of power,

Peace,

Freedom that is beyond the up and the down.

In fact when you practice it more when you're up or down,

The more grounded you become in that stillness.

So how do you come back to that?

Coming back to it is first of all starts with remembrance.

So anytime you are feeling so good or so bad,

That's the trigger for you.

Oh wait,

I'm feeling this which is okay,

You're here to feel emotions whether it's positive or negative but wait,

Wait,

Wait,

Wait,

Don't let me get lost in it.

Let me train myself.

This is the first trigger I would say,

The remembrance itself,

The intention itself is magical.

It's okay,

Wait,

Let me come back,

Let me find my center here even though I'm feeling all these emotions and then you essentially automatically let it unfold for you.

So if you need any more cues,

You can just simply come back to your awareness rather than being lost in the emotion.

Coming back to the awareness of things rather than the things itself,

You come back to that background observing presence and you can practice this when you're feeling not so many emotions.

I think that's a good base for practicing it when you're feeling up or down because when you can train that muscle to come back to your awareness rather than feeling lost in the drama,

Then you can take that practice up to the times when you're feeling so good or feeling so bad.

That's in my eyes is what spiritual mastery is,

Is if you can cultivate that remembrance,

Mindfulness plus ignorance.

So what I mean by that is that you stay present with what is,

You become aware of it but you also don't get lost in it,

You kind of ignore it while it's there.

What I mean by that is that you don't make it significant,

You don't give it so much meaning,

You make your awareness more meaningful or you can say you focus on that more rather than being lost in it,

Lost in emotions for example.

So you are aware of it and after that you're ignoring it in a way,

That's how you cultivate that stillness within.

I'm encouraging you to enjoy and feel it but come back to your stillness as well,

That's what I'm adding on to it because if you don't then essentially you're not cultivating that spiritual mastery in those times when you need it,

When you need it the most.

You forget about yourself and you're not training that muscle to stay still from inside.

Outside you can be happy,

You see like those emotions,

Those feelings are good,

You can have them,

You don't have to give them away but if you have one step into your stillness and one step into the world,

That's the perfect ground for that presence,

That stillness,

That freedom,

That peace to shine forth and then that's why you can then be creative with those emotions as well.

But you see like when you have that intelligence within that you are still and you're creative,

That's when that pure light can create through you while having this dance of emotions.

So it's kind of like a paradox where you are not perfect but that perfect light is creating imperfect creation through you.

Whereas if you're completely sucked into whatever your emotion is about then yes you may create,

Yes you may feel but it may not come from that source within you.

It may come more from the personality and that may not be as good as when you can do it from that inner intelligence that goes beyond you actually,

That flow state that comes through you when you kind of lose yourself.

If you're a painter for example then the hand is painting through you,

You're not doing the painting and that only can happen when you are grounded in your true self not just in the emotion.

So that's why it's both.

So what is the point of emotion?

The point of emotion is to get information,

To learn from it,

To feel it because every emotion brings opportunity,

Brings information to give you the data as to what your relationship is with this particular person,

Particular reality that you have created and from that there could be different things that you can learn from it.

Maybe it's a different belief that you can have so that you don't feel that emotion.

Maybe it's an information for you so that you don't move in that direction and you take it as a intuitive answer that this is not for you.

So there can be different information and it's up to you to unravel it,

To learn from it.

But you know what the best thing is that when you can stay connected to yourself then the answer comes to you very easily because that awareness that I'm talking about inside has intelligence.

It gives you the downloads to give you what information or what insights you need in the moment so that you can learn from that emotion and not just feel it,

Not just ride the wave.

Take an example of crying.

Crying is a release and so in that moment you're releasing something whether it's happiness or sadness.

You see that's why I said happiness or sadness they're both two sides of the same coin.

So that's why when you're crying you're releasing that,

You're letting that overwhelming sense of emotion flow through you and in that moment you may learn something about yourself that wow this really mattered to me.

This really had a sense of meaning for me and so what is about that that gives me meaning,

That gives me that sense of fulfillment or happiness.

And then you can cultivate that more in your life because you got some information about it or maybe it's a lesson about letting go.

Maybe it's a lesson about that you don't need to hold on to something.

You can let it go and that is an act of love too when it's a lesson about letting go.

For example,

See I'm giving you different examples to see that it's not one size fits all with emotions.

They can bring different information and it's up to us to learn and unravel that.

Emotions are really opportunities.

Emotions are beautiful.

It's part of human experience but at the same time emotions carry information and opportunities to heal,

To learn,

To come back to stillness because stillness is the center point.

You see emotions carry us somewhere but stillness if you have one ground in stillness and then you take your journey into the emotions then I would say it's the best of both worlds where you're being human and you're coming back to the formless part of you,

Still part of you which is unchanged,

Unmoved,

Never ever flip-flopping from this to that.

It simply is.
