PLEASE NOTE: These are unedited recordings from live sessions held each weekday morning online. Please keep in mind the context when listening. During this session, there is a 3 to 4 minute teaching followed by a spacious guided meditation. The meditations are spacious intentionally so that you can feel into your own experience rather than me talking through the whole 20 minutes.

Good morning,

Good afternoon,

Good evening.

So,

The instruction in the said to be the highest teaching of Buddhism,

Dzogchen,

It translates as the great perfection,

Is relax,

Just relax.

And that doesn't mean in that sort of couch potato type of way,

Like slobbing.

I'm relaxed and yet sort of half unconscious.

This is relaxed and alert.

We're relaxed in a way that we're not trying to change anything,

Modify anything,

Alter anything.

We're not striving for anything,

Not trying to get rid of anything.

This moment is as it is,

And we'll leave everything alone.

And we watch the rides that the mind wants to take us on.

Let me talk about the amusement park before.

We go on the ghost train,

We go on the roller coaster,

The waltzes,

Some fun,

Some scary.

And actually,

They've got more reality than the rides that the mind takes us on.

Hello Lorena,

If you just joined us,

This is your first time.

I've just started just talking about relaxing.

This is all about relaxing.

But relaxing with an alertness and watching what rides the mind wants to take us on,

Just like a fairground.

We go on the waltzes,

We go on the roller coaster,

The ghost train,

Some are scary,

Some are fun.

But at least they have some reality.

The rides that the mind takes us on have no reality.

The mind takes us on an anxious ride.

It's made up here and now,

Just created,

And we get on that ride and off we go.

So we feel anxious,

Because we're on the anxious ride,

Or the fearful ride,

Or I must do better ride,

I must work harder ride.

So we're not trying to change anything,

Alter anything,

Modify anything.

Don't try to get rid of anything,

Don't try to cultivate anything.

It's simpler than that,

Those are actually complicating.

And I've tried them,

I've tried them,

And for many years.

And some of my fellow Buddhists were doing the same,

A lot of us came to the same conclusion.

Then I came across some good teachers who put me in a different direction.

I thought a much wiser one.

So what do we do?

We just sit,

You can feel the breath if you wish,

Don't change it.

We listen to the sounds,

The sounds happening.

It doesn't matter,

It doesn't matter what the sound is.

Presence is more important than what appears in presence.

Just be present,

Relax into presence,

Into the body.

Don't look for results,

This is invisible work.

It happens as you're not looking,

Any change happens as you're not looking for it.

We're not trying to change.

So you can start off by taking a deep breath or two.

Helps you bring some balance to your posture and rest in the body.

You notice a sadness from sleep or something left over from work,

Just feel it.

Welcome everything,

Be it anxious or a scary feeling.

Hello,

Don't go on the rides,

If you find yourself on one,

Just come back to the body.

Where's your attention right now?

Just notice,

No judgment.

The mind's intention will be to distract you.

You find yourself lost in thought,

You can just say to yourself,

Having a thought.

Whatever arises is welcome,

A loneliness,

An anxiety,

A regret.

Just come out of the story and feel what you find.

Where are you now?

Notice the rides,

Might be what's for dinner ride.

Just ground yourself in the body.

Feel into the lower belly,

That can help.

Paying attention,

You notice that the body contracts when you're on a ride,

When you're in thought.

And then relaxes.

The intention shifts to the senses of the body.

Just checking that you're not tensed up.

Take a breath and relax,

Soften.

Soften around the eyes.

Soften the belly.

Take your attention there,

That's it.

Okay,

Just have a little stretch,

Some sort of little movement if you wish.

You should be quite awake now,

Not all sleepy.

I haven't put you to sleep,

I haven't got a sleepy voice.

Okay guys,

Thank you,

Bye-bye,

See you tomorrow.

Bye-bye.
